Is Sim City 4 going to be compatible with Windows 7?

I'm running SC4 on Windows 7 32-bit and it's an upgrade. I didn't have to do anything and it works wonderfully. it's way better than with Vista when the game went on stupid acid trips. The only thing now is with the BAT conflicts.

I've had Windows XP and I hardly ever had crashes, now I bought Windows 7 and crashes are almost a daily occurance... I'm not sure if it's a plugins issue but I've switched around my folders a few times and it doesn't seem to solve anything.

Ozan :You might have to change your audio settings from surround sound to stereo mode.  I think Peg had this same issue.

I have just got a new computer with Windows 7. The game doesn't play in full screen mode - I get two black bars down either side of the screen meaning I only see the game on 75% of the actual screen size. Has anyone else had this problem?

It sounds like you have a widescreen monitor, so this is normal behavior. As an older game, SC4 doesn't support widescreen resolutions. Windows 7 seems to preserve the resolution settings where Vista stretched it to fit the monitor.

I don't know if there is a setting in Windows, but you can use unsupported resolutions by starting SC4 with the proper command-line option. You can check this thread for more information:

Just be warned that this can cause problems, but you just have to edit the SC4 shortcut back to the original if it doesn't work properly.

SC4 is no longer working for me:

First, I installed it on Win7 x64. It launched fine with my plugins folder. This was about 3 weeks ago.

Now, I can open the game, but when I try to create or open a city, the screen goes black and the program quits. No error message, just crashing and closing. The exception report says "access denied", but I didn't have to run as admin in Vista, and my plugins are all in the Documents folder. An attempt without plugins nets the same result.
