Is there a way to see fullsized (complete page) pictures or do we have to look at only 30% or something everytime when we're looking at a thread like CJ's? Posts with pics have this window in them that we can roll up and down, but with this you can never see the whole picture. Is this normal, or can we enlarge them and how. Sorry, haven' t been around lately, maybe I'm missing something here.

Thanks

mrb

Hmm, I'm not really sure what you are asking, but perhaps this Omnibus article may be of some use:

How To Post Large Images on Simtropolis

Essentially, you compress or resize an image on Simtropolis, and that image is linked to the full size image which is hosted off site.  If the full size image is larger than your browser, you can click the image yet again to expand it (for most browsers).

Anyways I hope this helps you out a bit!

Below this is what I see, about 30% or less of the total picture and I have to roll up the side bar to see the rest without ever seeing the whole picture, normal?

There's no option to view image on right clicking the picture, hym.

Mrb: Right click on the image, but choose copy link address. Then paste that into a new window. I assume you're using IE 6 or lower.

What screen resolution are you using?  Perhaps if you increase it, all of that funny altering stuff I see will disappear.

Do you have a really small screen resolution?

Based on his screenshot, I'd gauge he's using 800×600 resolution.

Which certainly doesn't help, low resolutions will make larger images unable to display all at once.

...but it's obvious that there's more going on here. The image is going under the post info, the bottom of the post is cutting it off, there's a few weird color lines between there and the next post, and the icons on the buttons are not showing their transparency properly (those blue boxes around the icons shouldn't be there).

This looks like a CSS rendering issue, and the only solution for that is to update to a newer browser. IE 6 chokes on ST 6 like that since it's not compliant with current CSS standards. This is known, and since it's such an out of date version, nothing's being done about it.

I think Duke hit the nail on the head.

First of all, what's your monitor's resolution set at? Can you increase this without making your monitor's picture look crappy?

    -Most monitors have a recommended setting. Its always best to use this. A typical 4:3 aspect ratio is 1024x768 15' or less, 1280x1024 15'-19', 1600x1200 19+'. For 16:10 ratios, they are usually 1280x800 17' or less, 1440x900 17'-20', 1680x1050 20'-22', 1920x1200 22'-27', 2560x1600 27+'.

Secondly, is your browser full screen? (Maximized?) This will help to organize content displayed.

Lastly, is your browser up-to-date? Simtropolis is best viewed using Internet Explorer 8, Firefox 3, etc. If your computer can't support these browsers then make sure the one you are using is as updated as it can be.

This is definitely some sort of rendering issue. I visited that thread and your images are showing up as they should for me.. as others have suggested, try updating to a newer version of IE if possible, or using Firefox.

Hal - when I shrink my Firefox window, it simply adds a scroll bar to the side. The forum only loading a third of the image isn't related to monitor resolution or size of the browser window.

Ok, I tried some things. I can't use IE8, it jams my computer everytime I open the freaking program, so I'm back with IE6. So forget that part. Then I use Firefox and what I get is about 80 % of the picture width wise. The right part is missing. Not better, and besides ST is a lot slower to load with firefox almost like phone connection. (...and I am on cable)

Ok, another headache gone. Then, I tried a different resolution (1024x768) and hey.....I can see the whole picture now with Firefox (not IE6) but everything is so freaking small that I need my glasses to be able to read things. Not better either.

So I know now.....to see ST pics, I need IE8 which doesn't work on my computer, or a resolution of 1024x768 and I need to get my glasses. Fact.

lol.....now another question,(....and I seriously wonder why)  why in the heck don't I need all of this with ALL the other sites existing on the net? ???(or most of them like 98%) . I have no problem with my IE6, nor with my resolution of 800x600 with 98% of the sites.

But here's something that I can do, a little long to do, but doable......I simply download the pics and look at them with the regular window XP viewer. Anyone has a better idea?

Thanks for trying to help me out.

Yeah sure, why not, every time ST changes something I'll buy a new monitor....lol....excellent idea. My monitor is fine.

I haven't tried IE7, should I or doesn't it change anything, because they say that I need IE8.

You can always try IE7. I personally found it to be an exercise in crashing and lagging torture, but it worked OK on one of my computers. One suggestion would be to use IE7 without addons. This should be able to be done by finding "Internet Explorer (No Add Ons)" in the Start Menu somewhere within the "Accessories" menu, perhaps under a folder called "System Tools". Without addons, you won't see animations, videos, or music on any website, and there may be other issues as well, but it is very easy to simply start a new session of IE going about the usual way (shortcut on desktop, etc.)

You can also try Google Chrome. It is VERY fast, but it's only for XP/Vista...

The size issue is somewhat easier to solve. In the "View" menu of any browser, there should be submenu called "text size" or something similar. Hover over it to reveal a new menu, and select a larger size.

In Windows, you can also go to the "Display" settings in the Control Panel, then "Settings", then "Advanced", then "Display DPI Size". Select a larger number, and now all of Windows will have larger font. For more information, try this website: http://www.wordstar.org/computing/pages/monitor_cal.htm

    Hope this helps.

Hey Thanks yunxiang, that textsize stuff works to see the whole picture better and it is quick enough to get back to normal size if I have some reading to do. Great thing to know. Thanks, that helps a lot.

Now, one more question, could anyone please explain what these little red dotlines under most of my words when I write are for? Just curious.....

    Thanks

Well, they should only be appearing under misspelled words (or words not in the dictionary, at any rate), but it appears your spell checker is a little overenthusiastic. 34.gif
