So I was just randomly playing about in SC4 and I queried one of my roads and saw this:

WTH is going on? Since when did peds walk across half a large tile to get to work when they could drive/get bus/subway etc?

Using NAM MArch 09 Simulator Z High, and have never seen anything like this before..

Are you sure you didn't select the park-n-ride version of Simulator Z? I've seen a couple glitches that have people walking very far, but nothing like this.

Nope definatly the standard Z simulator not the park and ride variant.

I just pretend they're cyclists - riding 2 km to work is nothing. I go to and from the university by bike each day and that's a 10 km round trip.

Have you had this problem as well? Any idea what causes it?

Its not particularly annoying, just wondering what causes it to happen ^^

Well, at first I did have simulator Z park and ride installed. Now I just have simulator Z installed and I still see this sometimes. I quite like it actually 3.gif

I discovered last night i had the issue briefly.  I had an avenue that had 16,000 pedestrians that quickly turned into 16,000 busses (like it should have been)

My problem with installing the Z simulator on my already made city was apparently my buses account for part of the road capacity when it never did before so my avenues even though they have more capacity than when I was using my traffic cop edited simulator my streets are turning crimson because 16,000 buses simply will not fit on the avenues lol

obviously Z is more realistic in that nature but it definitely means I have to restructure my cities before going to the Z mod

    um err /unhijack

I've not had chance to look at it again yet (dissertation deadline for uni is tommorow >< ) but I'll query it again and see if it changes to some other form of transport as happened to you.

Just a note, this was a clean city started after getting NAM, so it wasnt a compatibility issue due to applying it to an existing city..

How long did you let time elapse in the game before you queried it? I know it says that it could take up to 5 sim years before the traffic simulator adjusts. It could be just one of those random glitches that happens in the "settling in" period. I too have the mod I have noticed they walk pretty far, but mine have never been more than 30 tiles.

I got that, but when you installed the new NAM did you wait 5 sim years. It's not just for the first time, but for everytime you do something different with the NAM.

well the Z mod has a 15 speed for pedestrians so thats possibly part of the reason.  The speed in vanilla is 3.5, so basically the pedestrians will walk nearly five times as far.

Ah sorry, its a complete clean reinstall of SC4 with the new NAM applied from fresh, not updated.

Problem is still persisting (games run for about 50 sim years now, with the same effect). It only seems to be that one road though... Ive demolished it and rebuilt with avenue/normal road etc, but the same thing still happens.. All other roads appear to function as normal..

huh, well, I don't know what to say! Maybe this is a good thing since you won't have an pollution from cars. On the flip side, I guess it would put those highways to waste. Did you try putting it on a different simulator?

I some times get people walking out of a city, and through another. I usually put it down to NAM being stupid. I have also had a train station with 50000+ passengers, in a city at the end of a chain of citys, with a population of <3000 and less than 5000 jobs in the city, and to top it off, not even 100000 people in the region. NAM is very strange some times

Sounds like that "eternal commuters" problem.

Yeah, it's probably conflicting with something else in the game. NAM isn't the broken thing. If you threw in the NAM into a freshly installed SC4, hands down, every time the NAM would function properly. When it doesn't work, that's because of something else.
