It wouldn't be the rate that matters, rather whether you can feel the pulse at all. If you can feel the pulse at that location, the blood pressure must be at least that high.

To search for the ideal city today is useless. For all cities are different. Each one has its own spirit, its own problems, and its own pattern of life. As long as the city lives, these aspects continue to change. Thus to look for the ideal city is not only a waste of time but may be seriously detrimental. In fact, the concept is obsolete; there is no such thing.

Yup.    Think of a garden hose...  at the tap / spiggot the water pressure is the highest...   however over distance the pressure is less depending on how long the hose is.    Therefore the pressure in the neck is the highest because it is closest to the heart...  (the head / brain takes a third of your blood supply by the way...  but I digress), the pulse pressure in the elbow is the next highest, and the pulse pressure in your wrist is the lowest because it is at the end of the hose.

The 80-60-40 is an approximation...  but it is close enough to give you a reasonable idea.

How did we get on to this anyway?    Oh...  I was talking about my new harlequin socks...   then Moose talked about pressure socks with different mmHg pressures, which then got me onto blood pressure...  blah blah blah.

Yes well there you go.

I have the orange toes and heel socks on today.    Just sayin.

Solid colour socks are the only way to go.

I'm one of those no-socks-with-shoes types. Unless I'm working in the yard I very rarely wear socks.

And of course everybody knows socks+sandals is just plain wrong. Have you seen socks+crocs though? That's an atrocious combo.

Now I know that is is the closet and we are all supposed to be tolerant of other peoples differences...   but...

Let it be now here established beyond any reasonable doubt that Crocs are just wrong.

In fact I can't even believe that we would even need to discuss Crocs in the first place...   I mean EVERYONE knows that Crocs are a CRIME against humanity.

*Disclaimer - if anyone reading this thread should by some chance, however small, actually be a Croc wearing devotee, and even if they do wear socks with their Crocs, please be assured that we still love and accept you despite your obvious fashion perversion.

I actually know several people that wear crocs. I pretty much ask them why they're still wearing them every time I see them.

Crime against humanity? I'm not sure. Crime against my eyes? Definitely. My eyes melt whenever I see them.

So does this have anything to do with crocs-dressing?    I understand that is a thing...

Crocs are definitely after my time.  My feeling on footwear fads is pretty limited.  I always wear socks because my feet sweat and there is not much chance of washing a pair of shoes unless they are deck shoes or flat runners.

My favourite footwear, by the way, is deck shoes.  Water shedding grip soles, usually comfortable fabric interior.  Oh, and designed to wear without socks.

Other than the ease of putting them on, everything is wrong with them.

Also, since they're very easy to put on, it's very easy for them to come off again. Have you ever seen people try to play soccer (football for the rest of the world) with crocs? It's quite entertaining.

Rubbah slippahs...the Formal Footwear of Hawaii...and they are "slippahs," never sandals!  Okay, I admit, if I'm not just in the yard, near the house, or at actually at the beach, I often wear flip-flop slippers with white socks, much to amusement of the family, who point out that those aren't really tabi and zori, and that we're in Texas, not Tokyo.  Only at home does this floor germaphobe dare go barefoot indoors, while elsewhere, no one really wants or needs to see to the hairy tops of my feet.  Dark brown walking boots most everywhere else.  Still, shoes without socks???...gasp, never!

Oh my lawd....   don't get me started on socks and *jandals. ..  (thongs, flip flops ...  Seriously people call them sandals and slippers? ...  but I digress.)

Jandals are a NZ trademark for rubber slip on flip flops...   'Japanese Sandal' ...  but in NZ you just call  them jandals no matter who makes them...   but I digress again...

When did you leave Middle Earth?  Hairy foot tops = Hobbit.

No conscience vote about same-sex marriage in Australia. Tony Abbott, an Australian hero... I think it's absurd. Allowing same-sex marriage (or not) is exactly about what you feel is right, what is just. A conscience vote is the only logical thing when it comes to same-sex marriage, I think. You should allow it, even if you are against same-sex marriage.

But the Coalition does seem to realize that the population doesn't support them, because they admit their policy will have to change for the next elections. (On the other hand, if you know now that it has to change, why wait to change it?)

@Timmie: You know any bureaucrab would rather do nothing than stick out his neck.

Why don't bureaucrabs look out the window in the morning?

If they did, they'd have nothing to do in the afternoon.

I like how there's a deck of UNO cards stashed in the bookcase amongst all the books :P

(Yes, that's the first thing I noticed. The socks came second, no comment)

That was the only angle at which I could take the picture without showing something on that bookshelf that I shouldn't be showing on ST.  :P

Books on art, books on architecture, books on planning,

books on photography, books on history, books on philosophy,

books on science fiction, books on languages, and books on...

My bookcase is just full of beautiful children's books, classic American literature and those coffee table booms I so love. None of that there.

However I will take those rainbow socks! I want a pair!
