Is there a group of people that prefer to play SC4 unmodded? Does anyone try to master the art of succeeding at the game without the aid if modds or traffic controllers? I know Maxis' engine is too small but maybe its the way the game was intended? I don't know and I don't judge those who use modds lol. But just for the sake of knowing, I was interested in knowing if there are those who like to play the game without modds. =)

I used to play the game without mods, even without Rush Hour up to 2006. And I did enjoy it alot. Of course, once I got Rush Hour, and started using bats and a few mods, it was impossible to go back.

I used to lay unmodded till three months ago when I found this site. I loved playing the game but there was just too much that I thought needed to be fixed. So once I found this site, I never once thought of going back. I would like to see a group of Purists, if I may. I would love to chat with them and listen to there views on the way the game is setup.

I still play vanilla.

We can inspire others through witness so that one grows together in communicating. But the worst thing of all is religious proselytism, which paralyzes: “I am talking with you in order to persuade you.” No. Each person dialogues, starting with his and her own identity. The church grows by attraction, not proselytizing.    - Pope Francis

Really? That's interesting. I'm guessing you really enjoy it or you have a fear of plugins.

What about pluginaphobia? It's a serious disease! 3.gif

Played vanilla on and off until a few weeks ago. Got pretty bored, decided to see if there were any mods, and boy did I find some XD

Has revitalised the game for me.

I like to use a lot of mass-transit, so playing the original SC4 was not so much fun because the mass-transit was very limited and didn't really work properly. This makes it very hard to build up large cities too, because all of your stations and subways will get maxed out and there's no larger ones available.

They made it usable in Rush Hour, but there were still no large capacity stations.

Also, the default stations look horrible.

The lack of high capacity stations was a big problem. I don't think they thought about that when they made the game. or maybe they thought we would put a subway station after every major building.

I still play the game mostly unmodded. I have one mod, which is PEG Seasonal Woods. I have tried others, but always go back to just the regular game. I don't really have problems with how it runs.

Also it takes a long time to figure out what you need to do to get plugins to run, what dependencies you need and then to include the new things in cities. I feel like when I actually have time to play, I want to just play, not install mods.

Just my two cents

The first version I got was Rush Hour, so I skipped Vanilla. I played without any downloads, except things like Shorty Burger from the EA site, for a long time. Then I started downloading stuff from the EA site. A few subway stations and parks mostly. I never knew there were sites like this out there. Around mid 2005 I axed my internet connection. I played with the few dl's from EA for ever until May of '08 when I found Simtropolis, by now having rejoined the online community with an internet connection. Like a fool I downloaded a lot of content and... well I don't know what happened, but the game didn't work. So then I started over and now have somewhat of a grasp on my plugins... kinda sorta. But anyway, I did in fact play the game w/o any extra content for awhile, and then for a long while still with no mods. I enjoyed it thoroughly, just as I have all SimCity games over the last 15 years. But now that I have all this great stuff... I'm never going back.

SeeSpotSplat is totally right there. I hate when I have only an hour or two to play and I spend 45 minutes setting up mods and sandboxing. Oh well.

It is a pain to search though mods and get it all setup, but I find that with the mods, that it adds realism. I guess if your goal isn't going for a mega metropolis then vanillais fine.
