Polluting Industries

I'll repeat the question:

It's possible, somehow, to start a city without using polluting Industries ??

If I use farms until my sims get high education, the polluting industries demmand will decrease ??

I like to use large terrains, but save a small piece of them to polluting industries make me feel like a waste of space =P

Also, the pollution is unfavorable to build anything near it, forcing me to add trees all over the zones.

Thx...

Simple answer -- Yes. Expecially if you already have a region with strong commercial demand and economy. With starting a region in isolation, the Super Demand mod helps. If you wish, you can deactivate it after your city is started up.

Don't want pollution? Simple! Go to the mods section of the stex and find radical ordinance mod. But, it may not be what you want because it is like a cheat. Also, it actually removes pollution from roads(activate the ordinance first).

I would use the old (yet proven) technique of building industry in a separate city tile. It works wonders. Or, you can download the artificial tree artificial tree. I use these and they do some good. A little costly at first, but they pollution at reasonable levels. You can also spread out the industry. So instead of bunching it together build pockets with trees in between them. I believe that in order to build a large successful region, you need to have polluting industries. Just like how you need a big low wealth sim population. Hope this helps and good luck!

There are plenty of pollution reducing parks/buildings on the stex i would recommend the "mega blob thing". Plop the in the middle of the zone and it'll clean a large area around it. That way you can build as close to the zone as you want with residential/commercial and BONUS when your city can support high tech industrial it will just grow!!! :-)

Once I have built several small cities and want to tackle the large and medium ones I build ALL industrial zones in a neighboring city(s). You just need to periodically bounce back and forth between the cities and let them grow a bit. In your primary city you'll have commercial jobs and mid to high wealth residents and reducing your industrial pollution is nil......good luck

The only problem with building industry on other city tiles is that you don't get the tax income. Plus Sims have to commute out-of-city , which increases commute times.

I prefer to educate my Sims while my city is still small , that way , when I sprawl outward , I don't have the pollution of dirty or manufacturing industry.

Try it , build some education facilities , wait a while , it really works , soon enough , high-tech demand will dominate your city.

Just as a side note , if you want existing industrial areas to grow into high-tech areas , you will have demolish most of the existing industry(Of coarse , leaving the zones) and let it redevelop.

Hope this helps.

Very often before I start a new city, I set the dirty industry taxes at 20%. Dirty industry won't develop in the city, and the pollution from the other industry is easy to control.

I just have one question about industry: Is it me, or is pollution completely random? Sometimes in one city a business's pollution will be "high" while in another city, the same business's pollution will be "low", that is, in the query menu. This only happens throughout cities. For example, if the Smoke Stacks in one city have high pollution, all the Smoke Stacks in the city will have high pollution, while at the same time Smoke Stacks will be rated as "low pollution" in a neighboring city. It's not an important question, but I would like to know.

That's strange, I haven't had any trouble with high tech industry growing over existing.

Well , thats because high-tech industry doesn't want to grow on polluted areas. If the area is polluted , they wont come , that's all it takes. Demolishing the existing industry gets rid of the pollution , thus letting high-tech industries come.

Tungston: I have tried that , but it only destroys your city's economy. This is because no industrial jobs will come until manufacturing industry starts to arrive , and commercial jobs can't handle all the economy on it's own , that's why I avoid doing so.

Hope this is helpful.

So in essence, you would still have to do a massive wipeout of the pollutants first before the high-tech will come in?
