Rush Hour won't load after XP reinstall

Howdy.  I'm on a fresh install of XP Home and SC4 Deluxe (SC4+Rush Hour), Pentium 4 3GHz, Nvidia GeForce FX 5500 (it's an old computer), 1 GB RAM.

My problem is that the game simply will not load past the EA logo screen.  The EA logo flips a little and then the game exits to the desktop.  Anyone know what I can do to fix this?  I used to have it installed just fine on my computer, nothing has changed about the specs and operating system except for the fresh reinstall.

I updated my DirectX, nothing. The disk is fine, and the game installed completely without errors, it has a little bit of wear being a few years old, but nothing that would hamper disk performance... I'm stuck. I love this game and want to be able to play it again.

I can't, the only other computer I have is a Mac, and the disks are for Windows.

    Selbj...

After you reinstalled XP, did you check for any driver updates? I once had a similar issue because I had forgotten to update my various drivers after doing a reinstall. Also, did you get the game update for SC4+Rush Hour after installing it? Just a thought...

Indeed. All of my drivers are up to date, spent a day doing that when I had the time, and downloaded the game update. It appears to be a lost cause =/

Try installing the game in "safe mode". A couple of years ago I had this problem and called my computer guy (gota have a computer guy) and he said try safe mode and it worked. Also I have updated all my drivers but I keep my driver for the video card to the same era as when I installed it because the newer drivers caused game performance issues. My video card is an ati vintage mid 95.

Do you have any antivirus? Maybe accidentally you download a trojan before the XP reinstall. Believe it or not, some trojans will stay to your hardware no matter how many XP reinstall you do! Install an antivirus (i recommend the AVG that is available to download for free) and check it. Maybe you need to chance your hardware if you want to play Simcity.

When somebody offers to do a favor for free, like making a mod for SimCity 4, you shouldn't be overly critical of something generously given to you. In other words, you shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth." - Twilight Sparkle after playing SimCity
