I've downloaded everything from Haljackey's newest interchange and transportation tutorial, but I still can't get the sunken highways to show up, even after a juice and installation.  Has anyone gotten these to work for Mac?

thx

oO Sunken highways don't show up, you have to do the terraforming, dragging of the highway and then build the retaining walls. For the best sunken highways, find a hole digging lot that digs 15m, which will be the perfect depth when making overpasses using the NAM puzzle pieces.

Sure, bwatterud. Here you go.  It's under City-Building Concepts.

I downloaded and installed the hole digging lots. But apparently I don't understand how to use them. I searched through all of the road tools, park tools, etc. Where do you find them at? Are they in God Mode or Mayor Mode? Thanks much, I really appreciate the help.

Sorry for so many questions, but how do you build a retaining wall?  Is there a tool for building walls, or does it happen automatically after the highway is laid?  I saw in another thread a pic of a sunken park with walls like you mentioned.  Do I need to install those?

I watched a YouTube tutorial on building sunken highways.  I don't have the toolbar that he is using to dig the holes, and his were located under the misc. transportation button.  Thoughts?  Thanks again.

Hole digging lots should be under the Miscellaneous Transportation menu.  Plop 'em, and drag the appropriate network through them to raise or lower ground accordingly.  You can find a more extensive set on SC4D, but the one linked from the tutorial should do just fine for most purposes (less menu clutter too).

Sunken Highway walls don't show up automatically, but are park lots that you need to plop.  There are a couple of different sets, but you've probably seen this one

    IMPORTANT INSTALLATION NOTE:

If you do choose Buddybud's highway walls, after you "Juice" the .exe installer, all the filenames will show the file paths that they would have been installed to on a windows machine (for example, "SimCity 4\Plugins\Buddybud\BudUB_Rur_HW\Lots\BudHW_Jeronij_Rural_Bridge-Cap1-1x1_717fe529.SC4Lot").  If you put these into your plugins folder as-is, they will not show up in the game.  You will need to delete everything up to the main filename (so the previously mentioned file would be "BudHW_Jeronij_Rural_Bridge-Cap1-1x1_717fe529.SC4Lot"), in order for them to show up in game.  I don't even think the file name matters, just as long as you get rid of all of the slashes.

Well, I've installed the lots. I had to juice them, but I did install them. They're not showing up. That was my question I guess. I know not all juices work for Mac. Has anyone else gotten these to work for Mac? Shouldn't you get replica juice files when you extract them? I don't get any Sc4Lot files when I juice the hole digging lots.

    thx again

Ok, firstly, are the Hole Digging Lots by smoncrie the ones that you downloaded?

If they are, they do not need to go through file juicer.

I see what you are doing now. Only put .exe's through file juicer. This means that SC4lots don't need to go through filejuicer to work on Macs.

SC4lot files are NOT the same as .exe files and can work on macs. It took me a while to figure that out 4.gif

Yes!  Thank you.  That was the problem.  In fact, I'm going ahead and doing a complete removal and re-installation of all SC4 files and mods now that I figured that out.  I thought that the black and green files ALL needed to be juiced, but it's only the .exe.  Thanks so much!  I really appreciate the responses.

Hey Hal.  Yeah, I got it to work.  Thanks for posting to my thread!  I've been surfing through your GTR and taking a LOT of notes.  Your transit system is a work of beauty, and I plan on modeling the one in my upcoming region around many of the ideas that you are using.  You have a great concept of city building my friend.  I've been going through trying to find essential downloads for urban beautification (sidewalks, parks, etc.).  I plan on using a LOT of mods.  I'm going for (hopefully) a real scenic region by the end of it, which should be quite a while.

One question for you, Hal.  In your elevated-over-ground highway interchanges, are you using something special to make those curved on and off ramps?  Those look so cool, and I'd like to incorporate them into my transit system.  Are they curved pieces, or can you drag them that way?

    thanks again!

    Hey, thanks a lot!

Perhaps you are referring to the ground/elevated highway stack interchange?  That's one of the custom interchanges found in the NAM

But perhaps I am wrong.  I have made so many ones similar to your description that I may be mistaken.  Perhaps posting the pic you are talking about may help.

    All the best,

    -Haljackey

Hey Hal, I'm talking about the 'main stack' that is found in the very first picture of your "Show Us Your Interchanges" thread.  The on and off ramps are really unique looking, and they even loop underneath from the top overpass to the lower ground highway.  Does that just happen when you build an elevated highway over a ground highway or did you have to do that manually somehow?

And here's something I'd really like to know, when you are planning a new city, how much of your transit network do you lay out before zoning anything?  That's really the most crucial point for me, and I'm hesitating on getting started until I feel confident about approaching this situation.  Thx!

You asked two questions, I will give two answers:

    1. Yes that would be the NAM stack interchange. I'm assuming you have the NAM because without it you can't build it. In the highways menu there will be a custom interchanges tab. Cycle through it until you find the stack interchange, then plop it where an elevated highway and ground highway intersect. Voila! There's your stack interchange.

    2. I do a fair bit, but in sections. When I start a new city, I will build what's needed and make corridors to protect what will be needed in the future. When I zone a new area, I place most of the infrastructure when I am doing the zoning.

    Hope that helps!

    Best,

    -Haljackey

EDIT:  I'll show some pics of what I mean by protecting a corridor.

As volumes increase, these corridors are upgraded.

Widened to 6 lanes thanks to protection.

Widened to 8 lanes and added a GLR line as the city expands.

Anyways I hope that helps.  I don't build everything at once, but plan and build as I go along.
