I can't believe it. Though I wasn't a big fan of Circuit City and I liked Best Buy much better, it is still crazy that they are closing. (Fixed the "e" Duke87 face-icon-small-smile.gif)

Yeah, I also prefer BestBuy, and never actually like CircuitCity either.

They had been getting weaker and weaker the past few years due to competition from Best Buy and others, but the plunge in consumer spending finally did it.

I won't really miss them.

It's a bummer for everybody getting fired, and that best buy and co are losing another competitor, (the more the merrier, I always say). I've always liked best buy better, even with their through-the-roof prices. When I wanted cheap I'd just go online or to Fry's or something though. Can't say that I'll miss them, but it's a bummer indeed.

I hardly ever go to Circuit City myself, but nonetheless, I'm still seriously bummed by this development.

And guess what this will leave behind, more empty big box stores. Yay for suburban blight! I always thought my town didn't have enough "grit".

Ehhhhh....

It sucks for all the people getting laid off.

Can't say that I'll miss them though. Shopping online is much better.

Well it makes sense the Canadian stores are not closing.

For those who don't know, Circuit City pretty much bought all the Radioshacks in Canada and renamed them "The Source by Circuit City". That means they aren't huge big-box stores here, and if worse comes to worse, they could possibly resell the chain to Radioshack.

I don't know whether to be pleased that someone found that funny or disgusted that they used that infernal "lol" expression.

And while we're at picking people's writing apart, the topic description:

Stores in Canada will not be effected.quote>

They're not going to cause stores in Canada?

You mean that stores in Canada will not be affected.

I heard about the whole Radioshack thing online recently. So techinically, the Circuit City that most know you can say is closing.

This was something that was bound to happen. Circuit City over-expanded in the '80's and '90's, and once their profits dwindled their foundation collapsed. Makes me wonder who's next to merge/get bought out/chapter 11. The same may happen to Best Buy, or they could even monopolize the market. Thank goodness for Newegg!

I still like electronics stores for stuff you want to compare in person, like the quality of a TV screen and audio or whatever. A good example is how I went shopping for a netbook-type PC a while back and came home glad I did not make any impulse buys on the net, because the one I wanted turned out to have a difficult to use keyboard and touch pad and the 8.9" screen was smaller then I imagined.

That said I bet in the future these places will really downsize and become like Radio Shacks, with a large amount of merchandise on display and not a lot of boxed items like hardware or games that obviously you are better off buying online

Fry's Electronics seems to be doing well.Always lots people in there buying stuff.

Mabey people got  fed up with Circit city selling them a $200.00 service package for a 50.00 printer.

It seems as if no-one is going to miss curcuit city. No wonder they closed down. The abandoned buildings left behind should be demolished before they start fires and slow down the city simulation 18.gif

Now if they could just get rid of the over abundance of clothing stores.

You were almost right haljackey, Circuit City did sell their Canadian stores, not back to RadioShack, but rather to Bell Canada. The stores will likely be renamed simply "The Source" (source: en.wikipedia.org).

Circuit City closed all of their stores March 8. They were all to be closed by the end of the month.

I have to admit, in some ways I will miss Circuit City. Best Buy, really the only "big box" retailer left besides the samller chain Fry's out west, will now be forced to compete with companies like Target. The worst part of it all will be all of the empty store fronts. I have seen some shopping centers with Linens "n" Things, World Market (closing 26 stores in eight markets in the following areas: Cincinnati OH, Fort Lauderdale FL, Fort Wayne IN, Memphis TN, Minneapolis-St. Paul MN, Rochester MN, Omaha NE, and Rockford IL), and Circuit City. And you can't forget about Mervyn's and the mostly mall chain K.B. Toys. They're gone too. This will leave some shopping complexes half-empty. Oh well. I will hopefully get better. We have to remember the good days of Circuit City. The days bfore the unhelpful staff and high prices compared to other stores. When the company had a different image. I remember when they changed their logo. Their logo. That's when things started to go downhill. One thing I will always remember is that song. The one that everyone remebers from some part of their life. You know, "I guess it was just what I needed, just what I needed...". That's something to remember about the chain that came and went in front of our eyes.
