Hello people!

4.gif

I got SC4 recently. After many years or playing SC3 - I hope I can play SC4 for just as long!

Anyway, I got some questions about the patches:
the Simcity Rush Hour says it's version 1.1 (v1517), and for PPC.

Do I still have to install this?
http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/games/demos_updates/simcity4rushhour.html
I run an intel mac myself.
I have an ATY,RadeonX1600 videocard, 128 MB VRam. The patch warns about anomalies with ATI cards iirc >_> any clearification on this?

This leads me to my second question, is there a patch to make it Intel and not PPC? I can run it now but I'm reading all kinds of 'omg this is epic fail' 'game goes slow' etc on the internet about SC4 for Mac os X, dunno if it's somehow related with people running big cities on a PPC based game on intel macs.

Now another point, I've been browsing around a bit and found some stuff about this NAM mod that's supposed to fix a lot of problems. I downloaded it, but the readme is being scary by saying this:
"Note: For Mac users: a Mac compatible RH/Deluxe Update1 would be preferred, but until such time as a Mac compatible RH/Deluxe Update1 is available, the above item will not be applicable. Please contact Aspyr regarding any Mac compatible version of RH/Deluxe Update1."
Does that mean I can't install it?

And now my last, less important question: are there any must have mods/fixes?

Thanks in advance 9.gif

(Oh and sorry if a thread about this already exists 15.gif But I couldnt find much)
(***** is happening to my layout? I typed it nice and now it turned into a wall-0-text) Fixed it for you - Hamish

Ah, quite a bit of questions there. Now, I run SC4 on an Intel driven Mac mini, and do have some slow down with the game, as well as some slow loading times, BUT I also have 2 gigs of plugins, which is probably more to blame. Large cities on large city tiles also go pretty slow as well, but that was a game problem across all OSes and computers.

I also use the NAM without the RH/Deluxe Update 1, but make sure to read the directions for it VERY carefully, as it has a lot of steps to getting it into the game. The NAM runs fine, adds all sort of neat little things, and helps greatly with the transportation networks. As for must have mods besides the NAM, that is up to each user.

I may as well say something...

No, you don't have to install the patch, but I don't think it will do much to effect the speed of the game if you do install it. Its going to be a case of, how big is your plug-ins folder, how big are your regions and cities ect...

This has already been answered, but no, you don't need the update to use the NAM.

And other must have mods/fixes, well its up to you really. Just have a look around on the STEX and just grab what you want off there. Most of the files will work, however when you come across an .exe file, read this thread and download filejuicer.

    Welcome to Simtropolis. 9.gif

There is a Universal Patch (available here, but I've heard mixed responses to it. In some cases, it works fine, and does what it's supposed to (makes the game run faster). But in other cases (like mine), it causes glitches that make the game unplayable (the game crashed when I had the audacity to plop a fire station). I'd suggest backing up anything you've done before installing the patch, and open up a test city. If it works fine, great, but if it doesn't, you can reinstall the game, without the patch.

This thread has a link to a site where you can get the official Maxis plugins without registering at the official site (a lifesaver, since you can't register at the official site with a Mac CD key). On the site is a set of files that is essentially the RH/Deluxe Update1.
