Upon first seeing the article on Dubai's planned "Dynamic Tower," I had to read it again, just to make sure I was actually seeing what I thought I was.

On one hand, I'm glad to see this level of creativity, innovation and devotion poured into architecture.

On the other hand, isn't The U.A.E. taking this whole "We're rich" schtick a little too far?

Come on: A SPINNING BUILDING.  That's just showing off.

BTW: However, if this is successful, I will be amazed by their innovations in construction and eco-friendly powering.

I could have sworn I read an article on Yahoo saying that was in New York. I clearly remember reading it. Hmmm... doesn't suprise me if it's in Dubai though.

deathtopumpkins, I think you're right... they planned one in NY and Moscow as well if I remember right. I think it was even in a thread here on ST that I read about that.

Like Godzillaman says, this has been discussed before. I remember being impressed, and excited, and glad that they're not wasting all that money in England.

There is also one planned for Tel Aviv, Israel 4.gif

So, I guess they are quite popular!

And trust me, they're safe 2.gif They will be turning VERY slowly... The video's just show a rapid version.

This means you won't get sick inside, since you won't even feel it 4.gif

Upon seeing that, the first thought that enters my mind is...

What Dubai is doing is disgusting. Sure, there's plenty of "innovative architecture" going around, but all these buildings are built with migrant workers from less fortunate countries that are practically treated like indentured servants.

It must be 10x the cost with absolutely no benefits at all other than looking cool.

Sure, Dubai has plenty of money, but don't they have something better to do? Anything at all?!

^ Unfortunately, no. The real sad reality is that the nearly 45 Million sq ft already U/C, with tens of millions more planned WILL be vacant. Truly, what a waste of precious materials.....

I dont get it... How would the elvator stop at different floors if the doorway between the entrance to the floors and the elevators doorway keeps moving?

The inner core will stay on it's place. There will have to be 4 doors or so in the elevator. Maybe a 360

Honestly, that has to be the ugliest tower I have ever seen in the history of all mankind. Yes, even worse than that horrid hotel in Pyongyang. PLEASE, Dubai, think of people's retinas!

Yeah it is pretty ugly. Kind of how in the 60's people thought that the wacky new retro architecture was cool but now all those buildings just look tacky. Especially the big ugly concrete apartment buildings that sprung up in places were demand for housing wasnt even high! eeergh.

So it's saying each floor can control it's own movements?

Wouldn't that make the building look like the last picture all the time then? haha... sorta defeats the aesthetic-ness purpose of it

Whether this project has been cancelled or not I don't know but I think it would be annoying if it was built as I think it would ruin Dubai's skyline but I also think that if it isn't built then that is one great piece of architecture that will never see the light of day. Something like this that is inspirational would be a shame to lose,

Richard
