    Tokyo Station/Koukyo

Koukyo is the name of the Imperial Palace. In this update I have started work on the Eastern most section of the Imperial grounds. This is land that is directly administered by the Imperial Household Agency.

    DSC00250-2.jpg

This middle path leads from the palace to Tokyo Station, this path is reserved for heads of state and the Emperor when they arrive or leave the palace via Tokyo Station.

Just decided to have a little fun here with the monument... banana? sonna banana!?

This is the area around Ochanomizu... still under construction.

you know what would be really useful, nam elevated roads or elevated highways that are extra high. Thats probably one of the problems that come from building Tokyo, even with the Nam the work is extremely limited.

Wow, Tokyo Station is looking fantastic!

And don't worry, double-height el-highways are coming. El-rail/monorail made it into the current version, but other networks will follow in future releases!

    Best,

First of all thanks everyone for replying

haljackey: It would really be nice to have high elevated highways, its really annoying having to change them to ground level highways every time theres a bridge. I havent been keeping up with stuff regarding the Nam, is there a thread on sc4 devoution or on simtrop on a new NAM?

    Ootemachi

Ootemachi is the financial center of Japan, and its where all the major companies of Japan hold their HQ's.

    DSC00258-1.jpg

    DSC00262-1.jpg

Above, Akihabara again, but the trains are running now, and I have placed a bridge where it should be.

    DSC00264-1.jpg

Just north of Ootemachi (I know theres a lot of repeatitive buildings, but im going to get rid of those as soon as I can). especially in the bottom right.

    DSC00260-1.jpg

The area around Ochanomizu station is coming along nicely.

    DSC00269-1.jpg

    heres a region pic

    DSC00270-2.jpg

Heres a region pic prior to major developments.

As you can tell both pics lack water. If you can tell whats going on that means youve read my previous postings.

However, lately ive come across a problem, and that is the location of Tokyo Station, ootemachi, and akihabara do no correspond to the rest of the map.....................orz

but since i havent really done ANY development in the other areas, except for mind boggling hours of checking through google earth, and establishing the terrain and what not, i think i can still sacrifice all that. I may attempt to salvage what i can. But this pic may be the last view you will have of my original terrain for tokyo. But construction in Chuo-ku will continue, probably with some minor changes in the area facing the sumida river.

Great update. In my opinion, you should not show the aerial view, cause it takes a lot of suspense... i mean, you should show it when the city is done, but it's only my opinion.

vegetarian-dracula: thanks for the advice. ya i didnt really want to show a region pic until i at least had the water done, but someone asked me how I was building tokyo, so i felt that a region pic would answer those questions a lot faster. and ya its a horrible region pic. but this probably wont be "done" anytime soon. Im guessing this will be the only region pic for a very long time though.

first of all thanks to everyone who has commented, and for those of u who have acknowledged the great detail. But I'd like to add that its not as detailed as i would have wanted. for example i was unable to build the highways in a way that i would have wanted, but i tired, orz...

nmuspidey: i didnt know what u were talking about when u wrote big hand town, but now i get it, lol

zezug: i hope ive instilled upon u an interest in tokyo

elemented9: thank you for commenting on the plop water, its really tough work, i reall wish that i could customize it to make it something like 8x8 or something, but dont know how.... yet

maybe someone can teach me how

I'm curious to see how you do the area around the Tokyo Tower as it's an area I've always been interested in recreating. Everything looks fantastic, one of the most accurate Tokyo recreations I've seen! Trixie nominated for sure 9.gif

ilikehotdogsalot: thanks for the comment. i hope i do get nominated for a trxie, but i must say, previous recreations that have won the trixie for most accurate recreations have been REALLY ACCURATE. I cant say that ive been able to recreate Tokyo to the greatest degree possible, if i could figure out how to make more custom content and customize some of the preexisting bats to fit the city better maybe, but im far from satisfied with my work.

well the area around Tokyo tower is pretty much next after the area around Ootemachi and most of Chuo-ku are done, I'll have to redo parts of the seafront though.

neonsxt06: well most of the bats can be found by going to sc4 devoutions japanese bat gallery, just type that into google, you should get the thread that leads to various other websites with japanese buildings. Also obviously ST has a wide variety of asian bats.

i cant really say how to recreate shibuya, everyone has different ways of recreating. I mean usually we all recreat stuff on a north-up south-down kind of way, but you may find that hard in Tokyo, so you might end up doing a north-east up, south-west down axis. But anyways for shibuya I cant say anything yet, simply because i havent gotten around to it, but again aptx has a shibuya station bat going, you should check it out.

also akihabara station, thats totally just a jumble of a bunch of bats, that look as if their one building, so you're gonna have to use some imagination for that.

Also if you intend to do this, DO NOT make the terrain first, lol. I know i told someone else to do that, i totally take that back, it was an absolutely stupid idea and a waste of time. Start with a section of Tokyo thats easy to make, like the area around Tokyo Station or Akihabara, those areas are on a clear and easy to recreate grid, then build Tokyo in all directions from there, essentially by accurately creating the center, everything around it can be built relative to it, thus making the rest accurate in scale and location.

Also you may discover that you have to create some grey zones, areas that just dont fit, for that just either fill it with a park or a bunch of small asian style buildings, and never show it on the CJ, lol ppl right now are just like "WHAA? Ur not showing us everything?" no im not, basically because those areas would wreak the atmosphere of the city and accuracy, but in order to make the majority accurate you will need these grey zones, simply because sc4 is not capable of accurately creating a city like Tokyo.

Most of the grey zones are areas that are elevated highway/elevated rail crossing areas... simply put its impossible, you can put an elevated highway OVER an elevated rail, you can put it under but not over, and when doing this what happens, I'll just bring up the nihonbashi area for example, is that since you cant put your elevated highway in a straight line under the tracks because the tracks also happen to turn slightly in that exact location you have to kind of turn the highway, which creates this small area that does not exist in real life. And because there is an offramp onramp in this exact location but facing the other direction you have to further distort the highway, and it essentially looks gross, i may just show it to you guys if youre up for it to show you an example of a grey zone. You will also note that there is no canal running under the highway, because in order for me to do that i need at least 2 tiles of space around the highway, which amounts to about 90m in width for most of the shuto highway running from ikebukuro to nihonbashi! and if you know the state of the shuto highway you know thats not true. Thus you have to sacrifice the river/canal at this point, which basically means, nihonbashi does not have a bashi (bashi meaning bridge in japanese). You just cant do it, physically does not fit into the game because you cant build a canal directly under a highway and build buildings on either side, then bulid intersections under the highway. But most of the city can be recreated. Oh also note that T-intersections and cloverleafs are different in Tokyo than what is allowed in the game, so basically improvise, build a highway entirely out of elevated oneway roads etc...

wow i wrote a lot, well i hope this helps other ppls quest for an accurate recreation of tokyo, I would want to see other ppls attempts at it, since i think im the only one on ST that has attempted 3 times, lol..
