    Announcement

Skagit County will be no more. What influenced my decision:

-Lack of space! Skagit County was only six large tiles and 8 small ones. The small ones were fine, but the west side of the map was mainly uninhabitable. The idea for The Creation of Cape Gateway stemmed from needing space, but even in these baby stages of development I am running out of good space. The Weekend drives, which are a hit, can't be made anymore cause I've used up every single town and I'd just go over what I've done before.

-Unpreparedness. Before making this CJ, I looked at other ones and noticed what they did- which included how to do replies, how to make pictures nice, and what wows visitors. I thought I've done a good job with that recently, but if you look at the start, I have Maxis trees, a pretty unorganized road netowrk, and basically not what I wanted. Oak Pines' downtown is not good because I made it diagonal, resulting in only those 5-6 story 1x1 offices going in there over and over again.

-Lack of mix. Skagit County wasn't meant to be good in only one thing. But having no space, I can't build a metropolis out of Oak Pines. I wanted to, and since the start of this CJ I have raised it by over 10, 000. But my new CJ will have EVERYTHING. I will have a metropolis whos transit network is already planned out, suburbia, , a few medium-sized cities, small towns with personalities similar to Halibut, and rural areas in the middle of nowhere.

-Names. You have to admit, the names STINK. Oak Pines. What? Creekshire... Creek+shire, not that great. Halibut is a FISH. And Skagit County...the name was stolen. It's the name of the map which I downloaded, but it was taken...

So basically, I needed to start over-and it couldn't have been possible in Skagit County. The stuff like the names could have been fixed, but it was in my best interest to start over. I was considering making my new one about the Gulf Coast, since it's where I'm from, but the Pacific Northwest is a good fit for me it seems. So I'm gonna keep doing it. Oh, and by the way, the map I'm using was completely made by hand in Photoshop with minor changes in game.

    Thanks for your support,
    Raysfan16

P.s. Any questions about the new CJ, you can PM me about it. And if you want, I will send you teasers relating to it.

Sorry to hear your abandoning this CJ, honestly I would disagree and say there's a lot of potential still there. A few months ago, I was on the verge of abandoning Winchester in favor of a CJ on my (yet incomplete) Tidewater-influenced coastal region. But I found that there's always something that can be added/changed/built/unbuilt.

I found it enjoyable, and not just because of the driving aspect, but you had nice realistic rural areas. At any rate, I will be eager to see what you come up with next.

GreekMan, I saw that CJ, but I worded that message above wrong. To clarify, I'm already using my map. I made it by hand in Photoshop and uploaded it. And I will look to you first for help.

Hawk, Thanks for the comment, and I definitely will send you teasers.

Dan: I know that can happen, and I am kinda shocked to see that you almost ditched such a great CJ. But when you're walking around, say, a grocery store, you get used to stuff after a while. And you wouldn't need to go back through a different aisle, would you? I just completely ran out of options, and there was even too many towns for a rural area like that.

I NOMINATED SKAGIT COUNTY FOR A TRIXIE

Okay, glad I got that out of my system, so anyways.

I understand your reasons for quitting Skagit County. They are largely the same as the reasons why I started over on my CJ not too long ago. So, I'll be glad to offer you help, and, I'll give you some starting advice.

Look at satellite photos on Google Earth of Portland, Seattle, and their suburbs. Looking at satellite photos has always been a great help to me.

Also, if you're not having fun, don't continue. If you are not enjoying your work, then it doesn't matter what others think. So, good luck on your next CJ, and hope its as good or better than Skagit County.

GM, I already tried that, but I figured a clean slate would be better.

CG, its OK, there will be a better one coming up.

N106: Lol what did you nominate me for? Anyways, I'm glad you understand and I've looked at places like Portland and Seattle.

    Teaser #1

This place is where two main rivers meet. I've blacked out the places where I don't want you to see (yet) and there is a name hidden somehow. If you are clever enough to find it, don't tell anyone!

We all go through that problem, create a region, play with it, find all these things you're not happy with and then make a new region. (I've made four regions since the start of my first CJ, 3.gif) Good luck with the new one, hope you'll enjoy this new one a lot more, if not, you can always make yet another one, hahah.

    I'm Archilicious.

I'm glad you are able to make tough decisions. To bad I only discovered this cj a few weeks ago... but I enjoyed it, and I think you did as well. Good run.

Cool teaser. I can't wait to see the CJ

Here's my only tip of advice for now- build plenty of subdivisions. All major cities in America are surrounded by miles and miles of suburbs. Having sprawl surrounding that beautiful skyline will provide realism that- to me- shows the difference between an unrealistic CJ and a realistic city.

Oh, and nice job with the new NAM.

As for the trixie- I don't remember which one I nominated you for, I just know I nominated you.

    Replies

Hawk: They're coming still, dont worry, it'll be out soon enough.

Dan: Glad you like my RHW, you'll be seeing a lot of it! You'll probably be seeing a lot of roadgeekery too!

Archean: I was happy with the region at that point, it was just that I couldn't do anything else. Thanks for wishing me luck, I'll make sure it's way better than Skagit County.

Petrovar Ambassador: Uh, Skagit County is over. I'm starting a new CJ, and these teasers are from the new region.

    CG: Lol, thanks.

Muck308: Its ok, there will be Raysfan16 CJ's for weeks and weeks to come. So don't worry.

Simsamerica: Thanks for stopping by, thanks for the kind comments.

    GreekMan: Glad you like it.

N106: I was planning on my biggest city (Hint: it starts with an H) being sprawled out and low density, much like Tampa, my hometown.

No teaser now, just something I wanted to show you guys that I thought was funny.

Well, the whole region will look somewhat like Glendale, just (with no offense to the CJ) aesthetically better and with a few more landforms.

We'll see when the clearer Downtown shot comes out!
