It's been a while but the music for Simcity 4 is not working on the region screen or city screens.  When i open the sounds tab on the main screen everything is grayed out. meaning i can't click on the songs or preview them or anything. I looked in the folders and all the mp3s are still there. Any ideas???

Its because (i think). That when you installed the game (if it has a scratch or Something) the music did not want to install. I remember there was a song that i liked that was grayed out too. But reinstalling the game fixed the problem (for me).

Hope this helps

I dont think its that because it worked when i first installed the game and if I reinstall it won't I lose all my cities?

the custom music box is also grayed out

Have you ever used the -audio: off  switch on your game icon shortcut? Or maybe have you somehow moved or changed the name of the Radio folder or the folders inside, or have you made any changes to your system (sound card)? If the check boxes are greyed out, it usually means that the game can't find or recognize the music files (MP3).

Like SimsRealator, I've also had to reinstall the game a couple times to 'fix' music issues. If you do try to reinstall the game, you can save your cities by copying and saving the My Documents/Simcity4/Regions folder and then placing it back after reinstalling. If you use the game's uninstaller, it should ask if you want to delete your cities or not. Also, if you have any custom content in your Plugins folder, you'll want to save a copy of that and place it back after reinstalling to keep your existing cities intact. Hope this helps...

EDIT: Just checked the -audio: off switch. There was no sound, but the music check boxes weren't greyed out either. So that doesn't sound like your issue.

My guess is that if those sound items are greyed out, then there is a problem with your sound card, its settings, or your driver for that card. Have you updated the driver lately? A good check is to run the Diagnostic Program that comes with SimCity 4 in its main directory. It will tell you if you have a hardware problem.

I just ran a diagnostic check and all the sounds and music tested out just fine. Could it be a plug-in I added from the exchange. anybody know any plug-ins that might cause this??
