Background Information:

Puerto Del Gio is located in the Caribbean near the Northern part of Venezuela. Puerto Del Gio was until recently an uncharted chain of islands in the Caribbean Sea. In the late 1400’s, Italian sailor Christopher Columbus sailed from Spain westward, to find a faster trade route to Asia. Instead he discovered the Caribbean and Hispaniola (Central America.) Columbus visited many of the islands that are inhabited today, but even with his journey, the Spanish knew little about the New World. One island he did land on was named Coste Verde (this is not fact).

Coste Verde:

Coste Verde was a Spanish conquered island found by Christopher Columbus in the late 1400’s. This island was not particularly big, but not too small. The island contained many natural resources that Spain wanted and needed during the time. Coste Verde was soon inhabited by the Spanish and began to grow rapidly. During the course of many, many years, almost all the islands in the Caribbean had been inhabited by European Countries (Portugal, England, France, Netherlands, etc). But when Coste Verde was at its capacity to grow outward (notice not upward), it was in need of more land. When a Spanish cargo ship was blown off course near the Northern tip of Venezuela by hurricane force winds, it crashed on one of the islands, previously not known to man. These new islands, where named Puerto Del Gio, and the island that the ship had landed on was called Covina.

Puerto Del Gio:

Puerto Del Gio is a chain of islands located in the Caribbean Sea. It has grown from an old farming town into a great place to raise a family in peace and prosperity. Below is a map locating Puerto Del Gio to Coste Verde in the Caribbean Sea.

    PuertoDelGioReplies.jpg

Before the replies, i would like to thank each and everyone of you who came and looked and/or (preferably and ) commented.  I was very happy to receive such generous comments. And I encourage you to all comment again.  Now to the replies. Also Banner done by Craig Fay. [Link]

Schulmanator: Thanks, I guess it’s a good sign that you commented me first. I hope you come back and see more.

    panthersimcity4:

Thanks, don’t we all like the Caribbean. Sunshine and warm weather. You don’t get that everywhere you go.

    Geronimo:

I hope you come back. Hopefully if it’s interesting enough, you will.

    fabsies55:

Thanks, and I am very happy that people actually appreciate what I am trying to do. I worked pretty hard on this region. It is actually my first good terraforming job. I hope you come back to see what’s new.

    iquere:

Thanks. I hope so far will also include the next updates. And I am not sure what you mean by the smiles. I fixed the arrow thingy problems because I pasted it from word.

    newyorkrunaway1:

Thanks, I worked very hard on this region from scratch (only water). The first development isn’t much, but wait for a couple updates…then BAM!!!

    GreekMan:

Thanks. I actually use GIMP. It is free, effective and free. It has a lot of neat effects. And downtown can wait a bit. I have to show colonization first.

    spore415:

Why thanks spore. The region is one of my finest works that I am proud of. I hope you look forward to a lot more…Mate

    wishfulanthony:

Thanks. The islands were hand-terraformed from just the water. I was hoping people would appreciate it and they did. I kinda borrowed the idea from you about the chain of islands and a few “other” things. And I will probably come to you for some advice. You are well known and I could always use a helper to help me write out these long replies and updates.

    jacqulina:

Thanks for coming by. I don’t want to brag…but the region does look good with the effects. Come back sometime.

    feliwi:

Thanks. The cities to this point are in development stages. I have a few updates, but still need time to get the “main” city to develop. Hope to see you around here another time.

    Stnggrl:

Thanks, I really tried hard to get this region looking good. I even had to scrap a few tile once. And since this is around your 3rd post, I welcome you to simtropolis (although you did join in July) and invite you to follow this city journal and others (see signature) and comment very much (it will make me happy)

    art128:

Thanks. The region is one of my best works. And I hope you like wild west cities. (for the first few updates). I hope to see you back here soon.

Feel Free to comment if you have not yet. Update hopefully tomorrow.

And for those of you in US (and I think other countries to) happy Veterans Day!
Honor those who have fallen and served for our FREEDOM!!!!!!

Also I dedicate this Veterans day to my grandfather, and uncle. Who have served in World War 2 and the Vietnam War. Also my friends that i have known since i was born, who are now based in afghanistan.

If you would like to dedicate to someone, please do.

    History:

In the late 1400’s, a Spanish cargo ship was blown off course by hurricane force winds crashed on an island near the northern tip of Venezuela. This cargo ship was full of Natives that had been taken by the Spanish from South America. The natives ran from the crashed ship as guards hurried after them. The day was epic as more than twenty natives were killed, and more than thirty were injured by gunshot wounds. As darkness loomed over the darkening horizon, the guards came back to the damaged ship. They assessed the damage, and would begin the repairs early the next day. By this they meant the natives, their slaves, would repair the ship. When night had fallen, only the occasional rustle of an animal was all you could hear……and see.

The next day, the ships captain explored the island which he did not know of. This island was previously unknown to the Spanish, or any other country that settled in the Caribbean. In honor of Coste Verde (Mother Country) the captain named the island Covina. To this day, no one knows for sure what happened after that, as the captain never did return to Coste Verde with its precious cargo.

But one thing that is for sure, someone, somehow, gathered the resources to build the first Spanish colony since Coste Verde. This colony suffered through harsh summers, humidity and disease.

I hope you join us as we go back in time, to learn and see how this prosperous colony was formed.

spore415: Thank you.  I have just recently learned how to control the effects and appearence of pictures using GIMP.  I had photoshop for the trial period...then it expired so i got GIMP which is free, and almost as good.  I worked on the story and background info for a while.  I think it was one of the most creative things i have done lately 16.gif.

DougOZ:  Thanks, the story was made up as i went.  I am glad someone read it and did not just look at the pictures.  And please come back for the next update.

SimHoTToDDy:  Thank you for the farms.  These aren't even really "creative," but they are custom, and i am glad you like them.  The sepia will always add a little something to a photo to.  My story was completely random...but did have some purpose...

pipishere:  Thanks for the comment.  Hopefully the next updates will be as good as the first one.

I have an update almost ready. It will probably be tomorrow if i have time.

Please comment i you have not and come back tomorrow.

anarchy0029:  Thanks alot!  I tried a couple of times to get the right city i wanted to show to the public, but hearing that comment gives me alot of confidence.  I would of replied to you when i did Schumanators reply, but we posted same time.  And i hope that this journal is good.  (also the info doen't get boring and none creative)

jacqulina:  Thank you.  I try to present them in the nicest way possible.  I am not sure what you mean: either the actual pictures look good, or the way they were presented...but either way its a compliment 3.gif.  Ok, i didn't want to be braggish or anything, so it was for caution.

Wow, that all looks beautiful. I really like the rural island look you have going. Also, great use of the western BATs. Time moves differently in that part of the world, and I'm sure there are buildings like that still around. Very impressive start, and I can't wait to see more
