Alright, so i play this game sometimes in my free time and i'm really not going to for the realistic super city, i just want to build something cool and have some fun.

So heres where my problem is.  I look around on this site (espically zelgadis' website) and i see these downloads that sound interesting but i really dont know what they do or what the are b/c theres no disctiption and its really overwhelming cuz i dont know what to get or what i need.  Since i'm a newbie to this stuff and its prolly self-explanitory in the title i'll just ask...

--Is there some kind of update for SC4D thats on there that i'm missing?

--Where can i download some cool maps to build on?

--What files should i download to improve gameplay? (traffic/commute times ect.. see bottom)

--What are some files that will give me some cool new buildings? (i saw the airbase on there  and that sounded cool.. things like that and like realistic skyscrapers and industrial buildings)

--And how do i download/install them? (windows xp)

--*Also, i was just lookin through the highway thread and how do you plan infrastructure before development?  like is that planing out your roads before their actually bought and built?

Im assuming that theres a tutorial to that or its in some read me, if you could just point me in the right direction conserning instructions on how to install i should be fine.

i also read the newcomers post, so i know about the NAM.  The STEX is... well i have no freakin clue, you download files from it but its kinda confusing... and are those BAT groups like a bunch of custom buildings and things in one package? cuz that would be awesome, i'll just dl a few of them.

Sorry if this is annoying or anything, i've been mulling around here for past few days kinda just wondering what to do then end up not even playing my city cuz i just get frustrated and play something else.

Thanks for ur help.

Hi Floyo111... Welcome to Simtropolis...

I hope I can help you out here...

1) Be sure to unzip the downloads (sounds like you're doing that).

2) Place the unzipped folder/files into your Documents/SimCity 4/Plugins folder.

3) Start the game and check the all the menus for the items loaded. (example: Oppie's are in the Park menu I think.)

A couple of things to consider:

1) As you place more and more items in the Plugins folder, you might want to create a system to help organize things to make it easier to find things.

2) Be sure to download any dependencies that are needed by lots to appear correctly. These are usually listed in a 'Readme' file in the download or in the instructions in the download window.

3) Not all lots (buildings) will be in the menus. Some are only growables and will appear in the game when conditions are correct.

Hope you understand this and it helps you out. Let us know how it goes...

Well youve all come to the right place.

First stop for all of you should be the OmniBus section of the site, the specific sections of the Omnibus would be any dealing with SimCity 4.

The O'Bus is where they keep all the articles and helpful stuff.

I will start you off by providing a link to a tutorial on using the custom content that you all would like to try out.

This is a link to a tutorial by Dirk, the webmaster here at Simtropolis, it has all the info you need, you just have to read it.....

Good luck.

Gradius125, you should definitely download the NAM. It is a must. You should also go to the SimCity 4 website and dl the updates they have there. You need to go to Help-->Update-->and depending on where you got the game, download one of the following: sku 1, sku 2, su 3, sku 4, or sku 5.

You can find a bunch of maps on the stex. I have never dled any of them, but they look promising.

As for installing the files, you need to first have either winrar or some other unzipping folder for zip files. Once you have downloaded the files open the zipe file and there should be a readme in there. That will tell you what to do. If it doesn't, what you'll do is extract the .dat file into your My Documents/SimCity/Plugins folder. Some of the files (like the NAM or RHW) have a .exe file. Just double click the file and the installer will start. Once you have the files downloaded and into you're plugins folder, you can either delete the zip file or store it way. I usually keep it just incase I need to reinstall the game or delete the pluigin and try again.

I hope this helps out a little.

A mile contains 1,609.344 meters.  One sc4 city tile contains 16m2, so 100.584 sc4 city tiles should be about a mile.

Actually, if you're right about the are of the tile, then it would be 402.336 tiles. You forgot to find the square root of 16 before dividing. That seems very unrealistic for the city tiles the way they are, but SimCity is very unrealistic all around so whatever.

100 feet--30 meters/1.875 tiles, 2 is 3.75

i need help in siren placement--measurements for small, medium and large cities--

meters into miles, miles converted into a single 1x1 tile (example--one bus stop is 1x1) as the distance.

usually, i put them too far or too close. 100 feet is 30 meters, so how do i convert it into a single tile, like a bus stop, for better placement between sirens?

can you help me, please?

thanks and this site...one of the best!
