Thanks a bunch, Broken. Those are sweet. I'm tired of seeing bare brown rock everywhere, these are great for dressing things up a bit. What do those adapted Peg textures you spoke of look like? Thanks again.

    OK folks!  I'm getting posts, messages and e-mails requesting descriptions about How To perform certain actions in SimCity 4.  I have no intentions to keep these skills - if that's what you would like to address them as being - to myself, bringing me to a suggestion as follows;

    If there's a big interest about learning how to perform certain actions within the game, I'm willing to do a somewhat interactive session with you, using this thread.  This means that we'll agree on a specific date, (day and time), where I'll be online posting images and explanations about the steps bringing you to a new knowledge.  During this session you can have your SimCity 4 game loaded and be online at the same time, allowing you to post questions if there are any un-cleared information - or if you need further assistance.  Doing so you can perform these steps while we're online and I'll be available to help out - if assistance is needed further!

    However, there should be a request made by several in order for me to put time into doing so. If interested, post it here!

    If there's a session coming up I'd like to devote that to Making Land Bridges!

    Moving on; Thanks langem13 for the correction.  I too believe spelling and grammar is important so I encourage anyone to correct me if I'm making mistakes!  My native language is Swedish though! <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/images/smilies/2.gif>

    Hit the LEX and search for Pegasus. Find his Canal Kit. I took the textures he used to build his canal walls and made them little 1x1 tiles. With his blessing, btw (just didn't want anybody to say I was stealing them 1.gif )

    Send me a PM and I'll let you know when I've got them uploaded. At some point, maybe I'll upload them to the LEX.

    Hey, I was wondering if you knew how to do this Agra. I discovered a way to make it happen a few weeks ago, but didn't actually try using it until today. Although it's just a small slope in this instance, if you look carefully at the area outlined in red, you will see that the road made it's own foundation.

    Oh, and the word is transition, your usage is fine. Smoothen is not a word, you can simply use smooth.

    That happens a lot in mountainous areas, where a gorge or dip in the ground is very deep, but too short to build a bridge, so it makes a foundation, a nice effect really.
    You also see it a lot in city journals where people have had a large level lot such as an airport, run a road around it, and not bothered to keep the road as level as the lot. In that case it looks quite crap.
    I'm not critisising you or whoever created that seaport, as that is an unavoidable problem.

    Wait for VA1

    Yeah, I've learned about that too!  In fact, I'm using it to create very steep roads by simply dragging the road downhill until I get a soft and perfect yellow line before I click and let the road be built.  You can try this out by simply placing the road tool on a steep tile, (not too steep), and press, (don

    Just to eliminate any confusions; When I refer to the Terrain Tool, or the God Mode Terrain Tool, or the Mayor God Mode Terrain Tool, I'm referring to one and the same tool; the one available for you as a mayor in the game.  Not the tool available for you, (without cheat), when starting a new citymap for the first time.

    I would also like to add that when attempting to make a canal - or lowering or raising tiles for other reasons - an easier way is to do as follows;

    1.  Choose the Lowering/Raising Tool, press SHIFT+1 for the smallest size, and place the blue circle on the tile you wish to lower/raise.  Click for a desired level.  (If you intend to use this tool for the entire levelling, count each click so you're ensured to get the same amounts of clicks on every tile that's going to be lowered/raised!)

    2. The first tile, or its corner, have been lowered/raised.  Now, switch tool and choose the Levelling Tool. Again, press SHIFT+1 for the smallest size available.

    3. Ensure the grid is on - otherwise press G. Place the blue circle on the lowered/raised tile.  Move it - BUT DON'T PRESS or CLICK - to the grid line, in this case where the lowered/raised tile meets the tile that's supposed to form the embankment, preferrably on the lowest/highest part of the first tile.  When closing up to the grid line with the blue circle it often disappears  into the grid line.  This is good, but ensure that the blue circle stays on the lowered/raised tile. Not the above tile!

    4.  When in position, PRESS and HOLD. Move the blue circle from the first lowered/raised tile, continue to the next, and so on.  You'll notice that each tile will level itself with the starting tile!

    5. Once done, release the tool.  That's it! <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/images/smilies/3.gif>

    Any questions, please post them here!

    i have two questions, what trees-lots do you use?, it seem so natural and 2. how build you the waterfalls so high, pegs waterfall-lots are only two tiles high, and one is the ground part of the waterfall, so the upper part(the falling water part) is only one tile high! how do you manage it, that it goes so high!? thx (sorry for my english)

    1;

    I initially used a tree-lot made by someone here at ST, (available at LEX), but I made a few of my own, borrowing the red-wood tree <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/images/smilies/3.gif>.  These are great to hide silly foundations - apart from adding a realism of course.  Simply search for Redwood Trees by FrankBirthday.  There's anothet tree lot as well, but I couldn't find it. However, it's in the LEX somewhere!

    2;

    As for the water fall, make a test.  Lower the terrain until it's not possible to place the lot anymore without getting the terrain to steep message!  I usually try to fool the lot by making the highest acceptable steep, then placing the lot and raising the terrain above it!  There are actually several neat little tricks to quickly raise or lower tiles.  One is using a single road, but there are others as well!

    It should be added that some custom-made lots are made with none or very little slope acceptance.  This can be changed by opening the lot in the Lot Editor and change the Elevation Change to a higher value!

    I hope this helps! <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/images/smilies/1.gif>

    More Neat Mayor Construction Tricks;

    As most of you know there are only one type of railroad systems available in the game, if not counting the monorail or the subway-on-ground as such systems.  I don't!  But I still would have wanted at least another railroad system available, allowing for a more local transportation system.  I know the subway do takes care of these issues for us, but still! <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/images/smilies/3.gif>

    Well, with this desired option not available at this time there's another solution which I'm using in my city.  Using the subway-on-ground - but still underground! <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/images/smilies/1.gif>

    /idealbb/files/Agra70a.jpg

    As you can see by the image the subway is placed on ground level - although digged down enough for the actual rails to be placed with the ground level.  It's a somewhat odd solution, but it gives me the opportunity to have another type of train running on the ground, allowing me to have this local transport along with my ordinary railroad.

    For those interested; this solution is possible by lowering the tiles, (where to subway-on-ground is supposed to be placed), deep enough for the rail to be placed at the ground level.  Continue by placing lots on the side that will automatically create a foundation when placed!  The ones used in my city are custom-made by me, but there are others available on the LEX.

    Now, this causes road/rail connection issues you might think!  Well, it

    That truly looks fantastic Agra. I think I may do that with some of my elevated rails. Could you think about maybe putting some of your custom lots like that on the LEX. I would make my own, but yours just look way better.

    Forgot to add that despite my three-wide-tile requirement notice, you can decrease this to one!  Zone or place buildings or other lots right next to the tracks, and they'll develop with a foundation.  This is especially useful if you want to create a single lane between buildings where the Subway-on-ground runs all by itself.  Quite cool if you ask me <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/images/smilies/3.gif>

    I will Vatt!  I just need to take some time to look into this LE thing more properly in order to change name on lots and so on.  Currently I just open the LE whenever I need a lot for a specific reason, makes it, and place it in the game.  But I will try to hurry up with the knowledge I need! <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/images/smilies/3.gif>

    One more thing.  I wanted an end-lot for the tile where the subway-on-ground hits the underground, so I quickly made one and added a fan - or whatever you call it - on top of that lot.  To add some realism I put a smoke effect on top of it - which explains the smoke you can see on the first image!  So before anyone asks, NO; there's not a fire taking of, neither on the ground nor from the subway tunnels - although it sure looks like that <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/images/smilies/9.gif><ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/images/smilies/21.gif>

    and yet another innovative idea!  Agra, you take this game to a whole different level.  You don't look at the game as what you can't do, you look at it with what you can manipulate to do.  that el-idea is perfect.

    BTW - have you tried a sunken highway with the fundations right up against it?  i have been meaning to try it, as it would make for a very cool freeway.

    You mean like the above, in the same manor, but using the highway instead?  Well, regardless of which, it can be done!  Using the elevated highway, placing these pedestrian lots and running some roads underneath surely would look kind of cool! <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/images/smilies/4.gif>

    It's not that difficult. Simply follow the steps described on the previous page about how to make a canal - just replace the water lots with the elevated rail.  Be sure to lower the terrain deep enough to have the elevated rail show up at the same level as your roads/buildings or whatever are placed on the ground level <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/images/smilies/3.gif>

    But you only need to drag the road underneath the e-rail or the e-highway!  Obviously it cannot be done by having those foundations placed, so wherever I want to have a road or a rail go underneath I must remove them and lower the terrain!

    I'll try to post more images of my e-rail/ground level system in awhile...<ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/images/smilies/1.gif>

    Yeah, you need some patience!  But I also hate to create things that looks awful - or unrealistic - and I like to imagine myself living in my city, and that helps a lot! <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/images/smilies/9.gif>

    How?

    If you are not ready to post your own such lots to the LEX could you give a how to guide?

    I love your ideas and I would like to expand on them in my city but I need help getting started and I need these lots you made that creates the foundation wall....I assume you did the same thing on your plaza?

    Please help!

    But I have posted a guide on how to create these foundations!  Check previous page.

    For the lots themselves, open up the Lot Editor and - to make it easy - choose a 1x1 tile, a park lot for instance, and dress it the way you want.  Then change the Elevation Change to 90 or something, allowing the lot to be built on very steep terrain tiles.  Also change the Foundation Threshold to 0 (Zero), ensuring that a foundation is built anytime there's a level difference.

    Now, you can also change what type of foundation you want.  Simply click the Lot Foundation button and choose whatever you'd like <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/images/smilies/1.gif>

    Any questions?

    Hi,

    Yes..I just went back a page and saw...thanks! I thought I read that page but I missed your how2 guides so I guess I didn't go back far enough in the thread.

    I'm going to go get started right now..All I needed was a point in the right direction. Thank you for being so kind to share your gifts....some would have just said 'figure it out yourself' but you are being very kind and patient with us.

    You have renewed my passion for this game. 1.gif

    well, i decided to do some of these projects in my city.  it really isn't that hard to do.  my new canals look awesome, the el i decided to do looks good (although i need to make new lots).  i did hit a few snags along the way, but i did what Agra would do. i altered terrain very carefully and took my time.  There were even a few skycrapers in the area that weren't affected by the massive terrain shifts.  i should have some SSs later tonite.

    thanks again Agra.

    Glad I could help! <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/images/smilies/1.gif>  Depending on the foundation threshold of some buildings, you can easily change the level of a terrain tile, located next to a skyscraper, by placing a few road tiles, one by one.  In some cases the terrain will level itself without problems - instead of using the terrain tool which can cause some un-wanted disasters now and then. Just look at one of my images <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/images/smilies/9.gif>

    Well, I'm not that sad really!  It gave me a chance to re-model part of the city!
    Anyway, looking forward to see some images later <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/images/smilies/1.gif>
