Help with the lights!

I need help! Every time I download a building, the lights won't work. Can someoune tell me what I need to fix this? I would really appreaciate it!

You need your SimCity 4 update, as well as the BAT update.

I've done this several times, and no luck... after I do the BAT update my version stays at 1.1.380.0

anything I'm missing?

What version of the game do you have (SimCity4, SimCity4+Rush Hour, or SimCity4 Deluxe)? The .380 number is not familiar (or maybe I'm having a brain freeze). The SC4Update4BAT (to get night lights) requires Rush Hour or Deluxe (updated).

Wait, if I'm reading this right, I need to have the BAT program (which runs seperate from SC4) for my building lights to work? That means I need to have Gmax as well? Thanks.

I wonder if anyone can help? When i try try to update simcity with sku1 while its installing its say file not found, but continues with the update.. it says update complete at the end. All the Simcity.dat files are updated but 'Graphics Rules.sgr' does not.. it stays at 19,116 bytes, does anyone know why this is?

I remember somewhere you can manually download the update from Maxis. My last install gave me errors during update for some reason I didn't know about.

You do not need the actual BAT program nor GMAX for night lights to work. You do need the SC4Update4BAT game update (the name can be confusing) found at the official site or SC4D. This will update the game from version .638 to version .640. Prior to that you do need the Rush Hour/Deluxe update to be sure you have version .638. And yes, you can manually download and install the update from the official site. It gives you that option when you click the update link (must be logged on).

Thanks for the info! I have RH and updated it via the maxis site on Monday. Can I check to see what version I have to be sure? Also, as it happens I have the BAT game update (don't know where I got it) so I'll go ahead and install that baby and see what happens.

If you right click on the SimCity 4.exe and choose properties you can check the version.

Hey i have version 1.1.610.0, and im trying to update sku1 US.. now my game wont let me play large city tiles its just keeps crashing on load up, do you think this could be because the Graphics Rules.sgr did not update? Thanks for your help by the way!

Ya i thought that but i can't figure out why.. it seems to have updated the simcity data files just not the simcity.exe file and the graphic rules.. i've tried installing it now 4times same thing each time.. i got the game in US but i live in Ireland so am i downloading the rite patch?

Maybe trying a different patch would be the next thing to try. I'm not sure, but I think I've read there is a way to check the game version (territory); I just don't remember what it is. Perhaps some one else does...

You can find the SKU region in the SKU folder in the program files.

Also I have heard the update won't take on a cracked game.

Ya its the US version.. but i just did some digging outside of simtropolis.. and its not working because i have a nocd patch on my game, the update will not work with this version, nobody has made a newer patch so if you want a nocd patch you can't have nightlights, oh well i think ill just go back to using the cd! I have Deluxe... I've run the game update to bring the version up to 1.1.380.0. then I run the SC4Update4BAT and it doesn't change anything... I'm still stuck at version 1.380.

Hmmm... As far as I know Deluxe is version .610 and once the game update is applied it is .638. How are you checking the version number? Have you ever applied a no-cd patch? Do you have something other than a North American version (that's what I have) of the game? Maybe the numbers are different. Perhaps someone else has seen this .380 version...

Sorry, I meant vers. 1.1.638. I must of been a little dyslexic, or I just can't type.

I did once apply a no cd patch... so my wife could play on our other computer... But I've  deleted it and reinstalled SC4 and I can't update to vers. 1.1.640.

Curiouser and curiouser... If it took the .638 update, don't know why it wouldn't take the BAT update (to .640). Have you changed the default location of the game files? (Really just a shot in the dark... I'm pretty sure I've updated mine after installing the game on a different drive.) Is there any kind of error message coming up when running the BAT update? Something like "... old file found... same name... etc... ?

Ok. I finally figured it out.... when I ran the first update to .638. it would update the .exe file in the main sc4 folder. But when I ran the .640 update it only updated the .exe file in the Apps folder... simple delete and copy and paste.....

It's always something simple and stupid!!

I've been playing this game for years and FINALLY I have night lighting for all my buildings!

Glad you got it up and running... I am curious, though. My SimCity4.exe. is in my Apps folder. I don't have one in the main SC4 folder. I have SC4+Rush Hour not Deluxe. Would that be why there seems to be a difference?

don't think so, my SC4.exe is also in the apps folder and i've got deluxe
