A squareabout 9.gif

It looks OK, but as Maarten pointed it has some really bad problems. Also using a slope mod or the transitions that come with NAM would greatly make it look better.

It is a nice concept, but yea basically what Mrtnrln pointed out. You could use the NAM puzzle pieces instead of a slope if you wanted to.

Sorry if this sounds harsh, to me it sounds like we're throwing nothing but critcism to you... anyway, I'd love to see the intersection 2.0!

Well, I have some points of critic about your roundabout, Nathan:

- It's not actually round, more like a square. Adding diagonal OWRs makes it look more round.

- Why does the OWR make a full intersection with both avenues? That doesn't make sense. Not only would it mean that there are two stoplight guarded intersections at each avenue, but also a at-grade intersection would have a better traffic flow than this. I don't think you really understood the concept of a roundabout. What you can do to make this intersection better is a) remove the OWR from one of the avenue medians to convert it into a diamond interchange or b) remove the avenues inside the roundabout.

- The slope of that avenue bridge is awfull. Get a slope mod, please!

Best,

Maartenquote>

Thanks for the advice, I will have to rebuild it because i deleted it. What is OWR btw?

Those look like standard-issue on/off ramps to me. And they don't look anything like roundabouts.

Oops, my bad. I guess I didn't read the title. And all I saw were roundabouts on this page. 41.gif

@nathanthemayor: Are you sure that the underpass is fully functional, because as far as I know, FLUP functionality under roundabouts hasn't been included in the public NAM yet...

It isn't functional, so that's one reason why I put the OWRs there.

You may want to check out this, as it will make your roundabout functional.

Historically realistic would be intersections in the city center, and roundabouts in the outskirts. These days, especially in industrial area's and suburbs roundabouts are popular. Also, roundabouts are more common in Europe than in the US. Btw, did you know that over half of the world's roundabouts are in France? Dont know why they like them so much.

The scariest roundabouts by far are in the UK:

They call it a 'magic roundabout' but especially to foreigners with no experience with driving on the right this is more of a killing roundabout

^^ Well, here's one that's almost as scary as the Magic Roundabout: the dutch 'Turboplein', which is an extreme version of the also dutch turbo-roundabout:

What you get there is actually TWO lots, a 1x4 entry lot and a 1x4 exit lot. It can be used regardless of which version you have.

Thanks mrtnrln for showing how it can be used in a RHD way.

While we're going on about scary roundabouts, here is a local one:

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&q=Mooroolbark+Victoria+3138,+Australia&sll=51.55893,-1.79369&sspn=0.078655,0.222988&ie=UTF8&geocode=FaBxv_0dXkqpCA&split=0&hq=&hnear=Victoria+3138,+Australia&ll=-37.789976,145.31017&spn=0.003124,0.006968&t=h

It's an absolute nightmare to drive through, frequently congested.

Whilst we're talking about real-world roundabouts, have a look at Milton Keynes in the UK. You'll have to move the map a bit to get the full scale of their love for roundabouts.

Gives me inspiration for my next huge intersection..those roundabouts are crazy and I suppose a more casual intersection (maybe grade-separated) would be less costly and more effective. I suppose only. ._.

I'm British, so roundabouts are my preferred type of intersection for major roads.  Milton Keynes though... you took it too far my sweet.  Too far.  3.gif

I recently made a filler for the NAM avenue roundabout that adds a visual extra lane to it.  This is the kind of thing I use it for:

Victoria_RHW_DoubleRound.jpg

Click the pic for full size (1680x1050)... if you want to that is 4.gif

It's an interchange of the city's motorway ring road and a major arterial dual carriageway.  It's based on this one near where I grew up in Yorkshire.   My game is LHD so the off ramps have a nice, smooth connection to the roundabouts, but with a fully diagonal avenue it wasn't possible to make the on ramps as smooth.

A few people have highlighted in my CJ that the 3 lane roundabout isn't entirely realistic with only 2 lanes merging into it.  I'm not a driver, so I don't know any better.  I wanted a roundabout that looked like it could handle a busy interchange though, and to my eyes this does that, so I don't care if it's accurate or not 3.gif

BTW, it's not on the STEX yet, but it will be eventually for anyone who likes it 9.gif It's purely eyecandy though. No cars will ever appear on the extra lane.   It's an overhanging prop textured like a road.

wow, nice. And i prefer roundabouts too, much less annoying stopping and starting. (And it allows trees and stuff in the middle.)

The extra lane in the middle is quite epic! 6.gif It's a bit off that the cars can't drive on that extra lane, though, but the eyecandy that it could handle more traffic is already good enough.

I like the motorway and the diagonal avenue too!
