Copied from an identical post I made on SC4D, never answered:

I didn't know where to post this, but how many units has SC4 sold? It seems that SimCity 4 didn't exactly fly off the shelves back in January 2003 which is most likely why EA ignored SimCity after early 2004. However, it's August 2008, and as of February, SimCity 4 was still puttering along as the eighth best-selling PC game outselling three The Sims 2 expansion packs, SimCity Societies, and Age of Empires III.

Obviously, five years is a long time. How many units has SC4 sold, so far, Mac and PC, since January 2003?

I work at a gaming store and to be honest we sell about 10 SC4 every month...If I sell them then I can sell more then 15, since people think SC4 is what you get in the box, but when you tell them about Simtropolis and Sc4d, then they get hyped.

I couldnt find any sales numbers, i found more top 20 lists though

http://forum.pcvsconsole.com/viewthread.php?tid=2273&page=6

Simcity 4 came in 19th on  some random october apart from that its nowhere (i only looked at one page though). I dont trust these top 20 lists, and i dont think companies release sales data because they might be embarrassed if they fail or something, like UT3 failed. They only seem to release sales figures when there is something to boast about.

Email will wright and ask lol.

According to [this list on GameSpot], SC4 Deluxe was the 8th best selling PC game of 2007 (check the updated list).

The list:

1. World of Warcraft: Burning Crusade Expansion Pack--Vivendi Games--2.25 million

2. World of Warcraft--Vivendi Games--914,000

3. The Sims 2--Electronic Arts--534,000

4. The Sims 2: Seasons Expansion Pack--Electronic Arts--433,000

5. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare*--Activision--383,000

6. Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars*--Electronic Arts--350,000

7. Age of Empires III--Microsoft--313,000

8. Sim City 4--Electronic Arts--294,000

9. Flight Simulator X--Microsoft--280,000

10. The Sims 2: Bon Voyage Expansion Pack--Electronic Arts--272,000

*Includes Collector's, Kane Editions

Keep in mind that digitally distributed software isn't included, which makes this list a bit less credible.  But it does give an idea on how well SC4 is staying afloat in the market.

Not to mention the above stats was just 2007, I would say they are somewhere around 1 to 1.5 million copies since release.
