Cheat mods don't work (Mac)

The popular cheat mod DLL on this site doesn't work for me. It's placed in my plugins folder but.... Nothing happens when I right click, and nothing happens with the Moolah # cheat either. In fact, no cheats other than the standard set have ever worked for me.

Zel's right, .dll's don't work for Mac. If you have a burning desire to know exactly why, a .dll file "modifies" the game .exe, without actually modifying it. Since the Mac version of the game doesn't use an .exe file, the .dll doesn't have anything to modify, and so, doesn't work.

So is there anyway to modify the data that we do have??? or is that illegal?

On the ASPYR port of Sim City, the procedures for loading DLLs hasn't been ported well. Normally, OSX uses .dylib files as libraries but on the aspyr port, the function has not been modified to load macintosh libraries. It contains an unusable function to load DLLs (what files because neither the CPU nor the operating system can interpret them).

The best way for intel users is to play the windows version of sim city emulated using crossover games or cider. Even emulated, it is faster than the mac port. Running the windows version through an emulator, night-lighting and DLLs work. On linux, sc4 can be used the same way.

The cheat probably is working. What happens though is if you place power or water facilities you must place enough to meet capacity and then you must have them reach all residents to avoid the complaints. However, they are only complaints. Once the cheat is initiated it should work. If I use a cheat I find it best to not place power or water facilities. However certain things, light a Lighthouse, are "power plants". In one city it keeps complaining that power facilities are strained, etc. if anything you can turn off the on screen updates so they only appear on the ticker below.

do you know how to force a game resolution in cider? (eg 1920x1200 in sc4 or put it in window mode)

The resolution is given by the slave application (i.c. simcity4.exe). On the Cedega binary (same for linux), there just can be set if the application should run in fullscreen or windowed mode. You have to set the resolution the same way like on the windows version.

From which application did you extract an usable Cider enviroment to play SC4? I may test it on the weekend on the Macbook of my father (here, I have only a PPC mac). Edit: Have a look on this instruction! https://www.simtropolis.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=147&threadid=100866&enterthread=y&STARTPAGE=1#last Because Cider is based on Cedega, that is based on WINE, you may influence the resolution with the same parameters.

I don't remember where I got it from. The most recent one and most easily accessable from the 'mac' version of the free spore creature editor.

I know I've downloaded stuff and have never been able to use them because I don't have DOS! 15.gif

Oh and I think you have to instal windows on you're mac for that to happen but before you do that you have to buy time machine to back up you're memorie so you don't lose anything important or something. But It costs an arm and a leg mind you.

What? Why would you need DOS for custom content? DOS hasn't been used in any major operating system since the beginning of the century. You don't have to buy time machine, it comes with leopard you just need an external hard disk, or buy Apple's time capsul. And why would you need to backup everything before you install windows? Bootcamp is safe.
