They should have called it The Dark Masterpiece!  This is without doubt the best superhero movie ever filmed.

Bale's Batman is the definitive Batman because we see everything in this character finally on film. Martial arts skills, cunning, great tactical thinking, forensic application, technological genius to advance or improve Luscious Fox's inventions/technological breakthroughs, intimidating personality, and even a little swashbuckling.

As for Heath, yes he gets credit for his performance as the Joker. But you have to also recognize Jonathan and Chris Nolan for the writing and treatment of the character. It's not just the fact that Ledger makes the Joker so menacing, but the Nolans have given the character this great manifesto that drives its actions. The Joker's stance on chaos, order, anarchy, the morality of the average modern human being make the character so interesting psychologically. The Nolans drafted a complex character and only a perfect performance could've pulled something like this off. That's how difficult of a role this was, and that's why Ledger's performance is so great.

This isn't an action movie. It's a film that explores literary themes of the hero and villain, as well as order and anarchy. Yes, listen to the dialog because it's all in there.

So, go see it.  You won't regret it.  Now I should warn you that while watching it, I found myself thinking it was very long, which is usually a sign that it's TOO long, and therefore boring. But that's not actually the case here. The script is bulging with ideas, philosophical musings, THEMES, which Christopher Nolan is not content to gloss over in favour of cool set-pieces (as many comic adaptations are), but wants to explore, wants to allow the characters to explore, at a logical pace. So, what I guess I'm saying is, considering what it sets out to do, the movie is long ENOUGH, while still constantly holding the viewer's interest.

I do think it was good, though perhaps a wee bit too intellectual for this kind of movie. But it (mostly) worked. I thought the so-called "social experiment" at the end was over the top.

Still, it beat the stuffing out of the last one. The last one was awful. This one is quite good.

Just saw it, without a doubt the greatest super hero movie ever. And chilling. Ledger's performance as the joker makes Jack Nicholson's acting look like Ice Cube's. If he doesn't win an Oscar, I have no more respect for that establishment.

Unfortunately, I still haven't seen it yet, but I sure cannot wait. From the first movie trailers that came out many months ago, I pretty much knew that it was going to be an epic movie.

Yeah, I agree with you, Yoman. Heath Ledger definitely deserves an Academy Award/Oscar for his performance. That'll be something if he does win.

I Honestly have to say this is the best movie I've seen all summer. Heath Ledger's performance as the Joker was excellent. At first I thought the Joker was going to be too demented, but after seeing it I'd have to say it's just right. I did think it might be a little too long however. And I was pleasantly surprised by the 2 Face subplot

Also, Did anyone else see "The Day the Earth Stood Still" Trailer? It seems to me that they missed the point of that movie so much right now. It's supposed to be about not having war, not alien death clouds!!!

I saw it yesterday, and I thought it was very good. Best superhero movie I've ever seen by far. It was VERY  dark though... people were bawling in the movie theater when ****** died.

Anyway, something to consider:

At the end of the movie my girlfriend said (in response to ****** becoming two-face) that it just goes to show that under the right circumstances, anyone can be driven to do anything. I disagreed, citing the end result of the incident with the two boats. In response to that, she said that there was a huge difference between making a decision to sacrifice oneself and seeking revenge for the loss of a loved one.

I still think I'm right though...

That really was one of the most epic movies I'd ever seen. The photography was just amazing and the acting and script couldn't be faulted.

I loved that scene where he jumped off the IFC2 Tower in Hong Kong... I still have no idea how they got that shot... it was awesome.

Yeah, it was really good. 

To be honest though, I felt like some parts were too rushed and didn't give an opportunity for the weight of any of the events to set in.  The movie would have been longer but I think it would have been better that way.  At the same time, there were some scenes that weren't really very necessary that could have been removed.  So I'll see what is on the DVD.

I'll just echo Jason, that was my opinion as well. But for the most part I think they were also brave to even attempt such a plot/message, and they carried it out rather well.

It was good, very deep, but there was a lot of media hype and this wasn't Batman's movie, this was Joker's movie. That was my main issue.

I'm pretty sure Harvey Dent is dead since batman took the fallout for all of the people Two-Face killed. The whole reason Batman took the blame was because he wanted people to remember Dent as The White Knight.

So, Ive seen this movie twice now and it truly is one of the best movies ive seen, but im not a movie critic so... Haha.

Anyway, one thing that bugs me is that Wayne Tower isnt Wayne Tower anymore. And that kinda, well, really bugs me cus i am a bug fan of the Chicago Board of Trades Building. And now its the John Stanley Plaza? I dont know the actual name so sorry if i butchered it i dont live in in Chicago so.... But they dont even explain why the building changed or why the l-trains changed. so if anyone could or has an explanation or general theory that could shed some light thay would be AWESOME! Lol. 

Also, sorry it someone posted a topic or a reply like this already, i did a search on gotham city and the dark knight and didnt find anything...

Ps, The late great Heath Ledger deserves an oscar, it was truly a great preformance.

Definitely the best superhero movie because it goes deeper into the human mind than any other superhero movie and most non-superhero movies for that matter. The title of the movie was right... the movie is very dark.

I just finished seeing the movie. It seemed like a very intense crime drama that happened to have some unusual characters than a classic comic book/super hero flick. That's a good thing. Until this movie, I could never see the genre appearing to seem realistic. Gotham City looked like a real city instead of the gothic sets used in the past. The acting was good and not hammy. The violence, although excessive for true realism, was still protrayed as terrorism and there were no attempts to explain or humanize the Joker. Even the music was about provoking suspense instead of sounding like a comic book. I liked having to think through the moral complications. In a way that reminded me of The Untouchables, which is my all time favorite movie. I think the movie lingered a little too long on the Harvey Dent, although Aaron Eckhart is a pretty good actor in his own right. The Hong Kong shots were absolutely breathtaking. I'm glad I didn't take my kids to it, but I really liked the movie.
