Nice idea letting people 'buy' land. It's a brave one though! You might end up losing control! You'll have to set up a planning comittee so you can retain some control. I'm looking forward to update 6b and 7. I already voted, but my team's losing now!!

    UPDATE 7!

    A new settlement!

A group of loners who wanted to stay in the peaceful, wooded place they first moved to recently packed their bags and headed west, building a gravel road behind them as they went. The first thing they did was start a farm going, and then start work on their houses.

    Newsettlement.jpg

Eventually, coal was found in the hill the new settlement was built up against, prompting The C&W to extend it's line out to the mine. Pictures of the mine will come next update.

Here is the construction camp set up by the railroaders:

    RailConstructionHQ.jpg

And here is an overview shot of the entire rail line under construction:

    RailConstructionOverview.jpg

Please ignore the fall trees south of the creek on the bottom right, I was experimenting, and decided against those, in favor of using c.p.'s seasonal trees, as seen in Three Rivers Region.

Here is the completed rail terminal at [insert name here], before the mine was put in:

    1-Aug26141214526102.jpg

Now back on the home front a lot has been going on. The farmers were continuing to abandon their farms in what is now the heart of the city, so they were redeveloped.

    CompleteFarmRevevelopment.jpg

Also, you can see that a retaining wall was added between the houses and rail line, as the current town planning comittee decided that there was a danger of houses sliding down the slope.

The Virgin Oil Co. faces more competition lately, as Shell and BP have both recently opened dual service stations in the redeveloped farms. Don't ask why there are two of each, that's just how they developed. Also, BP opened a self car wash down the street.

    BunchaGasStations.jpg

    See you all next update!

Ever heard of Franklin County? Well, the Franklin Oil Co.'s new oil field in East Valley has partnered with the Virgin Oil Co. in a refining agreement. Read more about the agreement here.

Lastly, I am finally closing the tree poll, and seasonal trees have won by one vote! I am going to use the 3RR set David (dedgren) made, and they will start showing up in the next few updates.

    REPLIES!

crazyarchitect: I'll send that on to the planning comission, and we'll see what we can do.

psander5: I think I can manage if I don't let people overdo it too much. Check your PM inbox. Which team would that be?

nihonkaranws: Thanks. How do you mean?

I'm updating the atlas to show the new development, and it'll be linked in my sig when I do.

Speaking of which, I believe it needs a name. Any suggestions?

Coal as well as oil!? Virgin shores is certainly not going to be the 'greenest' place in the world lol. The town centre's coming on nicely. I look forward to seeing the mining development.

I was on the god mode trees team! Never mind. I'm sure the seasonal trees will look equally nice.

    REPLIES!

un1: of course! Just tell me where on the atlas.

supercity124: Thanks! It eventually will, it just takes time to grow a city from scratch.

psander5: Oh, don't worry. The government's fairly strict in regulating industry. I'll have the mine in the next update, hopefully today.

Oh, well the god mode trees will still be in lot of the region, and the seasonal trees will be seen in the next update (it's a suprise 2.gif).

    sedimenjerry, thanks for your compliments!

supercity124, be nice. That's how some people choose to speak (type) on the internet. At least it's still comprehensible. Besides, the only thing that's missing is a period at the end of each line. And, please, try to stay slightly on topic.

I am glad you're reading though.

P.S. I would like to "buy" land on the southern most part of your city.

    UPDATE 8!

Well, I promised mine shots, and here they are!

Here is a closeup of the mine:

    1-Feb13151215841638.jpg

    It's Peg's Big John's Mine, btw.

And here is the series of switchbacks the railroad constructed to reach the mine:

    1-Feb13151215841599.jpg

The Southern Hills Coal Co., who runs the coal mine, soon constructed some worker housing along the dirt track up the hills to house the miners.

    1-Nov16151215842627.jpg

Who, in turn, constructed some more farms.

    1-Nov13151215842590.jpg

Note the seasonal trees in action!

With the recent announcement of a partnership between the Virgin and Franklin Oil Companies, Virgin constructed a second, much smaller (though a little more technologically advanced) refinery on Sibelus Ln. across the river to handle the oil coming from Franklin County.

    1-Mar29171215844455.jpg

To handle the new imports of oil, Virgin constructed an oil pier just north of the existing port, which even the most huge and modern tankers can dock at. The Oil Company is calling it a "world class facility".

    1-Mar26151215841810.jpg

South of the refinery, the small wooded area between the rail spur and Spring St. was subdivided into some residential and commercial zones.

    1-Nov27151215842686.jpg

And, lastly, the first Park Reserve was set up around Greta's Spring. The scenery is incomplete at this time, but here's a night shot set in autumn to tide you over.

    SeasonalTreeParkin-progress.jpg

    Replies in a minute.

The Imperial Oil Refining Company has suggested a "beneficial" relationship with the Virgin Oil Company. Would you like to discuss a deal.  Hint: I can supply all the bulk fuel you'll ever need.

sim-Al2: Hey, I know you. I've seen you post on SimPeg. The oil derricks are available here on the STEX.  Can you give us a specific location?

Second Reply: Send me a PM.

Virgin Shores has grown out of it's current town council government, and I am currently setting up an eight member city council to assist in governing the city, especially since I'm letting people buy property.

    City Council Members so far:

    1. Me- Mayor

    2. Patricius Maximus- Head of Department Of Transportation (Plans and maintains the region's transportation infrastructure [excluding ferries])

    3. Psander5- Head of the Planning Comittee (Evaluates reader requests)

    4. ?- Virgin Oil Co. Representative (Represents the Oil Company)

    5. ?- Head of Department of Health and Education (Runs schools and hospitals)

    6. ?- Head of Department of Recreation (Plans and maintains parks)

    7. ?- Head of Utility Comission (Manages electric/water/sanitation systems)

    8. ?- Head of Department of Water Resources (Plans and maintains ports, ferries, beaches, marinas)

I'm still looking for people for the five open positions listed above. Drop me a PM if you wish to apply. The list will be filled in as jobs are given. Note: If you accept a position, you will be expected to take an active interest in it, and possibly even do some work.

The city of Virgin Shores is growing rapidly fast, because of the oil and mining discovery and trade.

P.S. I am going to be the Head of The Utilites Commission in the Virgin Shores City Council. To manage electrical distribution and transmission power lines, power plants, electrical power substations, Water pipe systems, pumping stations, water treatment plants, Recycling centers, landfill, trash collections, and waste to energy power plants in the city.

The city utility departments are: Virgin Shores Department of Water and Power, and Virgin Shores Department of Sanitation. These are the city utility departments in my Utilites Commission.

    Please vote for me!!!

supercity124: You're not quite yet. Like I said in PM, you have to get elected first.

    psander5: Of course it's nice. It's Peg's! 18.gif Thanks!

Santos16: I'll add you to the ballot. Do you have a second choice?

supercity124: It's OK. A PM is not a requirement, just a suggestion to keep from cluttering up the thread with applications. Santos is on the ballot anyway.
Oh, and do you have a second choice? Just in case someone else wins that position.

    jjune4991: Thanks! And PM received.

I will continue to accept applications through tomorrow evening.
Here is where we stand currently:

Virgin Shores City Council Ballot as of 19:40 EDT
    Virgin Oil Co. Representative Hampi
    Santos16
    Head of DHE Hampi
    jjune4991
    Head of DOR sedimenjerry
    Head of Utility Comission supercity124
    sim-Al2
    Head of DWR sim-Al2

From tomorrow evening through Tuesday evening (EDT) elections will be held, VIA a poll on this thread. If a candidate wins two different positions, he/she will be given his/her first choice and the runner up will receive the other position.
The above table will be updated as I receive applications.

    Good luck everybody!

Update 9 will come hopefully before the election.

Those aren't votes listed on the ballot. As it says right below the table, "The numbers in parentheses are for first and second choice. What I meant by second choice was what position would you take if you didn't get your first.

No votes have been accepted yet, and will not be accepted until tomorrow night.

EDIT: I took the confusing numbers out of the table.
