First of all, hi everyone. 3.gif

I know it's possible to rename a region by editing the region.ini file in its corresponding folder. However, city tiles don't have such file, and just editing the name of the *.sc4 file doesn't work.

Can it be done? How? Perhaps there's a way to do it in-game instead of modifying files?

Thanks in advance for your help. 4.gif

There is a way using cheats.

Hold CTRL+X to open the cheat box, then type "whererufrom <newnamehere>"

that ought to do it. 1.gif

    I see!

That's pretty easy. Now, I won't get any retribution from the game for using cheats, right? I mean, some games reprimand you slightly for that. For example, I remember you got the rank of Cheater in WarCraft II at the end of the mission, if you used cheats at any point. 3.gif

Thank you very much for that. Unfortunately, it only saves one word. So I had to make two words into one to make the name that I had wanted originally. So now I am Schrodinger'sAbyss, lol

If you want to use spaces, you have to enclose the name in quotation marks, i.e. whererufrom "Schrodinger's Abyss"

Do you know if SimCity 4 supports having non alphanumerical text as city names?? I'm dividing portions of my region into states, so in those cities it will be for example

Caratoke , NC  (New Catalina) , Hayleyvue, NC ★ designating that city as the capital of that state like the way Civ5 does it. Is this something that is possible. Is there anyway around this??

Is it going to cause an issue having that comma in there after the two letter State designation??

I know it can struggle with Umlauts, Accents and the like commonly used in many European Languages. As such, similar issues may affect such special characters too. Best way to find out, make a backup of your region (just to be safe) and then try it and see what happens.

Is whererufrom in the vanilla game, or do you need the extra cheats plugin? Anyway, that's where I first saw it (and some other useful tools) listed. BTW, there are now two extra cheats dll's, Buggi's from 2009 (updated 2014) and Simmaster's extra-extra from 2016.

Indeed you need to have the Extra Cheats.dll installed to make use of this function.

I hate to disagree with you, but there are 11 cheats available in the original game and with RH/Deluxe which do not require the DLL.

Yes, it is and I've used some of these before I found Simtropolis. The instructions in Prima's Guide say to use Ctrl+Shift+Alt+X to pop up the cheat console. I'm pretty sure you can also just use Ctrl-X, but anyhow here's the list:

    • stopwatch
    • whattimeizit
    • whererufrom
    • hellomynameis
    • you don't deserve it
    • sizeof
    • weaknesspays
    • fightthepower
    • zoneria
    • tastyzots
    • howdryiam

Now it's true the Extra Cheats.dll does add more cheats and has a more friendly interface. ;)
