Technically it was dead from the start. There's one thing in common with all of these kinds of projects - they never get anywhere. I've seen countless amounts of projects just like these (for different games), and they all die out, forgotten for all eternity (except by the microchips, as they know no age, no despair).

I would be surprised if an actual, complete, working game came out of this. Very surprised.

Chris.

Size doesn't matter - what matters is how many people are interested, and how many of those people are actually creative, have talent, and are actually knowledgeable when it comes to programming/coding/art/modelling/sound design/music.

Happy? 3.gif

This is just a basic design right now, and the actual functions are being implemented right now.

After many complications and such, I'm restarting the project, so the project will be web-based, and the game will be hosted on a webserver. This means no downloading stuff, just visit the URL, register, go.

PMs have been sent to current developers.

EDIT: Temporarily leaving the project, I have another piece of work I want to work on more.

I think you are going to see more open source games come out in the future. Gaming companies are no longer catering for the PC gamer as they once were look at EA. Most serious PC gamers are getting very annoyed with companies like EA who destroy games and dumb them down.

I realize a lot of projects dont get underway. But i do feel there is a revolt going on and we will see more open source games created by people who got annoyed with the likes of EA for destroying games.

I like the idea, but my programming knowledge isn't great except for stuff like web stuff. "Stuff like web stuff" that's just too much stuff. Funny? No? Really? I tried.

OK, sorry for my massive period of inactivity, but simmaster07's web hosting idea is actually fabulous! This project is going to be kick-started again properly. Simmaster07, when you come back, could you give me the server login or something so that I can view the code? If anything puts me off of Simtropolis for a while again, simmaster07 can, I feel, take over as Project Administrator until I return (not that I intend on leaving regularly). Developers, keep registering!

Well Chadly, in a way, yes. It will take a while to make it better than Sim City 4, however. This project allows the Simtropolis community to get the features they want in a game that they like. Unfortunately, code development has stalled, as simmaster07 has temporarily left and he's the only one with the server login details. Graphics developers, however, can keep going with the graphics; but just keep in mind that they should be optimised for the web.

CKBrown1000: As the project is now web-based, your coding skills would be much appreciated. Pop over to the Become a Developer thread at the Official ProjectCB Forums to become a member of the team.

I would LOVE to participate! I am a C programmer myself , but I still don't have that much skill.

I actually thought about doing something like this myself... , I am not a devotee on simtrop , however.

I think this thread is becoming crowded , however , there is no way we will ever make a whole game with discussion in here , although there is now a site , I had to dig quite a bit to find it , you should probably put a link on the first post.

I will have to think about it , it seems like an great idea.

I've registered there as blakesterville. I am a little confused , however... we should all try lin city before trying to change it , in my opinion.

download the latest stable version of lin city for windows here.

EDIT: oops , this is lincity , not lincity-NG... sorry.

I may not be here that often , but I would love to help a little.

Same here but Its still good to see people trying. While I wish everyone good luck with this project I believe that outlining the projects parameters first would get things going much quicker,

thanks! I will hopefully get right to work soon , I also noticed , lincity-NG is a german thing , and I don't know german... so that may be a little problem , unless I am confused.

I had posted lincity , which is very different... but I hope this will work out.

one thing , though , when I log in , most of the boards go away... why is this?

EDIT: I think I found an english version... but I can-not seem to get it... does anyone know where I can get -NG version?

Even though development has been delayed, there have been breakthroughs in the coding. I think this is a major accomplishment -- the developers are taking the first baby steps.

This project for the first time has a good chance of success.

I am really sorry... but it may be a few weeks , at least...

well... my dad has been unemployed for so long , that if he doesn't get a job soon... really soon... we will be forced to move in with family until he does.I am also only 13 , so with school and stuff like that , I would be extremely busy , and that place has internet... hooked up to a phone line...(uhh... ever tried that??) I will probably try and wait until he gets a job , and we move wherever that is before I try to jump on board.

To me... that's really disappointing... I wanted to be able to start soon... maybe we can get better internet there , I dunno.

EDIT: yay!!! found an english version of lin-city NG!

download the engish version of lincity-ng(windows).

Good luck... and I hope to get on soon.

EDIT: yes , I am now in florida... I got a chance to stop here for a few minutes , on SUPER slow internet! but I hope to help in a few months.
