  1. ProjectCB Official Board

It won't be long until I get to a point where I may be able to work on this some more. I'm not promising anything, but I don't think ProjectCB has quite died, yet...
  2. You may also like these hole-digging lots from smocrie, which can be found here . These let you dig holes for things like unobtrusive mass transit, and lift them to create the impression of embankments. They offer a lot of realism.

Although I've not been active here for a while, I've been trying to make some progress, but I'm getting busier and busier with studying. Taking this into account, and mrdazza_460's post, I think that we should stop working on this project until somebody makes a significant leap in progress. Thank you to everybody who helped but I think that, until there's a significant leap, we shouldn't spend to much time on it. I hope everybody can see the grounds behind this but, if anybody would like to object or make another suggestion, feel free to do so.

Making ProjectCB multi-platform is a good goal, however, what you said may be slightly contradictory. You said that it should be a downloadable client, and that it should be for Windows Linux and Mac. Code, although it ought to be standardized, just isn't, especially when it comes to making GUIs (the basis of any program that doesn't come up in a command line window, for those who don't know). That's why I presented the idea of using a web-applet language, so that the game just runs in an internet browser: only one edition of code, all the operating systems. However, I will take a look at OpenCity to see what options that presents us with. As for your suggested features, roads, power lines and a power plant of some description were probably givens; however, we'd have to find out from the community whether or not the other two features were wanted. Trees possibly, but the three RCI zones are, perhaps, a matter of opinion. I'm not saying that I support any particular building growth system for the project, I'm just pointing that out.
  5. Can i get some help?

If switching the game to software rendering worked, then the problem's with your graphics card. It may not be powerful enough, it may not have enough memory, it may not have the latest drivers... But it's certainly the graphics card if that solution works.

Well, until yesterday, I didn't know any Java either. If you already know C++ or C# or a similar language, then it's not to drastic a change. On the topic of features, I think that, in theory, it wouldn't be too tricky to have non-grid roads; get a user to click, store a point, get another click, store the point, build a road between them and have a simple texture (such as a Stop Line) for any intersections. Of course, it will be slightly trickier than saying that, but it certainly isn't too difficult...

Well, yes, Java would be another option. It was more the idea of using that kind of language to ensure compatibility than it was using Flash itself.

I have, actually just thought of a culmination idea. If we create a C++ version, then we will have to compile executables for Windows, MacOS and Linux, then there's testing, and cross-platform compatibility... So, how about using Flash to program the game, and use an XML file as a database? The game would, then, work the same on every computer, cutting down on a lot of potential coding issues. Of course, this is just a suggestion, I'll need to see what the developers think of it before actually implementing it.

It's good that SimMaster07 hasn't completely left ProjectCB. I'm adding an advertisement to my signature, to see if that helps.

Good move, blakesterville. As soon as we get a rough idea of what the community wants, we can start developing!
  11. ProjectCB Official Board

OK, 1-0 to C++ (or other local machine language). Any other opinions?
  12. ProjectCB Official Board

I'm waiting to see if anybody has an opinion on which platform to develop the game for. Once we have a firm understanding of what members of the community think, we'll be able to alter the game accordingly. After all, it will be the community who eventually uses the game, so the community should have a big say in its development. The short answer is: no, not yet, but hopefully soon.

Sim City 4 can be really slow, as you've seen. EA still hasn't really fixed it, they've just changed the gameplay for Societies so much that you don't need to worry about such things.
  14. Ghost Industries

Well, if I remember correctly (somebody please tell me if I haven't) rail is rarely used by commuters over city boundaries. However, as blakesterville said, Sim City 4 can be very slow at realising things at times.
  15. Hello everyone :D

The SC4Tool (http://kurier.simcityplaza.de/details.php?file=315 , scroll down to the very bottom, it has a download link in tiny text) may be able to swap the categories/sections/whatever, but it's been so long since I've used it that I can't remember.
