Night light updates (again!)

Hi all, this is my first post, although I've been a member of the forum for a couple of months.  You all know so much that I haven't felt  there was much I could really add!

But I have tried a couple of times to download the nightime lighting patches, without success.  My patch log says the following:

"----- Processing Patch File -----

Applying MODIFY File Patch for 'DELUXE.exe'

Applying MODIFY File Patch for 'RUSHHOUR.exe'

Applying MODIFY File Patch for 'SimCity_1.dat'

error ept0036: Old File not found. However, a file of the same name was

found. No update done since file contents do not match."

I don't really understand what it's saying, but I'm wondering if this is the problem.

If so, where are the patches filed, and can I delete them and try to download them again?

If not, have any of you any suggestions for how I can get my downloads to light up at night?

Okay, scratch that, I just figured it out -- a few minutes after posting, although I'd puzzled over it for several weeks!!!

    Hoooowevaaaaa----

Only buildings already there illuminate.  Buildings that I'm adding now all remain dark.  I've tried exiting to the region and going back into the city again, but they still remian dark

Also, the generic parks that came with the game don't have a props.  The ones I already put into my city do, but new ones that I add are bare.  Other parks that I've downloaded are fine.

    Any suggestions?

You should try toggeling the light swicth or not building any plaza's or subway/bus stations near the building you are trying to show. I had the same problem a couple days ago

I have a similar issue. The night lighting works fine whenever I download the update for it, but when I do all of the buildings from the game lose their props. Parks are just plain green squares, the zoo is missing most of it's buildings on the lot, etc. Has anyone else had this problem and been able to resolve it? I would love for my custom buildings to light up at night but am not willing to let everything else disappear.

Yeah, that's exactly the problem.  There's no airplanes in my airports, my low-density houses are just sitting in the middle of a massive lawn.  The strange thing is that the parks that I'd already placed in my city are fine -- it's just the parks that I'm trying to place since installing the night update.

It's really frustrating because this must be the third time this has happened to me, and the only solution I've been able to find for it in the past is to remove and re-install SimCity.  I don't want to lose my cities yet again!

your only option is to rename the OLD files.. for example simcity_2.dat.old or whatever.. (the system will ask you ARE YOU SURE.. answer yes).. then copy the INSTALL FILES from the CD (.dat's from the CD2 and .exe's from the CD1) then apply the patches.. or of course you can just do a full re-install but that isn't likely necessary

Any of the OLD files that have changes FOR ANY REASON NO MATTER HOW SLIGHT will not patch successfully

Okay from reading It seems you are having problems downloading the night light feature. I had the same problem when I went to Maxis and tried downloading. It told me that it had problems installing the update and soon after shut down. Every time I went to update it did this. So I manually installed the night light feature and placed it in the appropriate folders and bingo everything was fine. Not too sure if this helps but nonetheless, I hope you get the problem resolved.

Check the version of the "SimCity 4.exe" file, if it is 1.1.640.0 then the update took. Then check the graphics settings in the game options to make sure they are set at medium, or high.

Hmmm.  Thanks for the advice.  Unfortunately, I'm not that technical, so I guess I'll just have to live with it.  The night lights are very nice, and I guess I'll just have to rely on downloaded parks from now on -- which can also be very nice.  And it is a bit boring having parks all looking the same as each other.

As for my LD houses, I never liked them all that much anyway.  Tower blocks and skyscrapers are soooo much sexier, I think.  Well, they turn me on, at least 3.gif  And I don't spend much time staring at my airport -- as long as it still works, which I think it does, I'll live with the lack of airplanes.

I guess this could be the spur for me to actually download the BAT and start building my own.  With the excellent guidance of Simtropolsis, of course.  Thanks for taking the time to consider and respond to my problem.

Yeh I have the same problem, for me the patch worked fine and I have all settings on high due to my uber machine :3

But I still don't see any planes, and quite a few of my night lights just fail >..>
