Ok, this is only going to be a three picture update, but I have made my first attempt at a realistic municipal airport as the population of Nasisco is now over 50,000 and counting!

    39.gif

If anyone who knows about how realistic airports should be made on SC4, please point out if there is anything that needs changing, adding, etc. so that I can....well...make it better! 48.gif

palin1388: Actually, the riverside park was made for the workers to relax on breaks.

nottheboss: Thanks for the reply, it's good to be back.

Cypherus21: Thanks, I tend to use custom content only when I need it. I don't see anything wrong with the Maxis buildings anyway. There should just be more of them. 4.gif

jacqulina: Yeah the marina is pretty cool 1.gif

nice airport, for a municipal airport it's really nice. In the USA all gates have jetways (like in your airport). In Europe and other parts of the world it's more common for a small airport to build a linear terminal (with about 4 jetway gates, 1 of them also for bigger planes than the CRJs). All other gates are without jetways and only reachable via buses or walkways. As well many airports have some other buildings (I only saw terminal and hangars). Maybe add a hotel and a railway station, at least a bus station. Another point of criticics is the space between your taxiway and the piers. The CRJ are able to go on this taxiway, but imagine a 737 or 747 or 767, they would crash the pier with their wings. I leave at least 2 tiles empty space between taxiways and any kind of buildings.

but for your first attempt it's quite a good airport, a little bit more practise and it will be perfect!

Great airport, but you might want to leave a couple tiles (at least 2) between the terminal and the taxiway.

    Great job on the airport.

This is going to sound cocky particularly as a new member, but I think you can improve it. I would strongly recommend reading the readme file from the first release of the RMIP. Voltaire provides a fantastic explanation of how to accurately construct runways. I would follow the diagrams he shows for placement of runway markings like touchdown zones et cetera. I would also lengthen the runway, as right now it's looking a little short. If this is an older US airport, and given the traffic you have, you want a runway between 7000 and 10000 ft or 2-3 kilometers, which would be between half and 3/4 the length of a large city tile. Also, generally speaking, particularly in US airports because we are obsessed with having a jetway for every single boarding gate, at least half of the of boarding gates tend to be unoccupied at any given time. You can justify having more of your gates filled if your airport has enough traffic, depending on your region size, that it is approaching the point where the terminal will need expansion soon. One last point, you can find the grass filler pieces and airport fencing at the bottom of the parks menu.

    Keep it coming!

Your airport is nice, but it doesn't seem to have much parking. Some rail/ bus access would make it a little more realistic as well as hotels for weary travelers

Thanks for the helpful advice everyone who commented! Does anyone know where I can download/how I can make a realistic bus station for the airport?

Wow the airport looks good. Just a question as I always see this kind of airports, do they work?

Right, I've completely redone the runway and taxiway, so now the runway is longer and the markings should be correct, and the taxiway isn't so perilously close to the concourses. The airport strip is now defined by fences, and I have put a makeshift Maxis hotel and bus station near the car park as I cannot find anything on the STEX that would look right as either.

    Here's an overview:

    OuterNasiscoZone1-8Nov.jpg

As suggested by irdesi I have made more of the jetways unnocupied to make it more realistic:

    OuterNasiscoZone1-31Oct.jpg

In this picture, the building on the left is supposed to be the hotel and the one on the right is the bus station:

    OuterNasiscoZone1-23Oct.jpg

As before, if you still spy anything that looks wrong with it please say so. 44.gif

Plus I have nearly finished making some interesting new suburbs, so expect an update featuring those soon!

To answer waiyep90's question, these airports do not function in the same way as the Maxis ones. They are purely aesthetic. But I would say they are still worth downloading as they are quite interesting to make and allow you to build far more realistic looking airports.

You have a pretty nice looking CJ here. Just to add my two cents on the airport (I don't know if you're still taking suggestions on it or not), you might want to make a general aviation ramp and put a few Cessna's/smaller business jets there. An airport that size would probably have the majority of aircraft movements as general aviation rather than commercial. Just my thought, good work so far.

It's an improvement my friend. Um, if you want to be real detailed with the airport, there are guideways from the gates to the taxiway. but yeah, if you're not into detailed work, this would be fine. I am enjoying your work and I really like that you're open to constructive criticism. I'll certainly be back for more. take care

You want airport hotel? You got airport hotel. Try this. It's by Simgoober, so you know it's good!

Excellent airport! If someone else can find and suggest a bus station then I think it would pretty much be perfect.

Hey y'all! It's time for another delicious nutritious update!

I made some cool new suburbs to the north and west of the centre and the population is now nearing 60,000 happy people.

I'll start with the western suburbs

    WestNasisco-11Jul.jpg

This is one of the more sought after neighbourhoods as it has quite a few ponds to live next to:

    WestNasisco-4May.jpg

    WestNasisco-19May.jpg

This is the first landscaped park in Nasisco, with 'hand-made hills!' 4.gif

    WestNasisco-20Mar.jpg

And just some more suburbia to feed your hungry eyes:

    WestNasisco-14Jun.jpg

And now onto the northen suburbs:

    NorthNasisco-28Jun.jpg

This pic shows that the classical-home look is in fashion around here. All of these homes are very much new, though.

    NorthNasisco-11Jun.jpg

On the other side of the river (I don't know what's so special about it but...) theres are some new interesting projects going on:

    NorthNasisco-25May.jpg

    NorthNasisco-28May.jpg

*sniff* this is the last pic I've got for this update:

MCO1254: Taken your advice and added a few Cessna planes on the site. 1.gif No pics of them though.

Cypherus21: Thank you. Although Nasisco is gonna grow until there is now tomorrow! *bwahaha*

Charles Rodulfo: I noticed the guideway lots but-to be honest- couldn't be bothered...18.gif

jjune4991: Thanks! I used the RMIP-2 lots by Voltaire (Just type RMIP-2 in STEX search box) for the runways and taxiways, and for the planes and terminal buildings I used ACB VLT Terminals And Jets Series 1 (Parts 1 and 2).

nottheboss: Airports look great but they take hours to make properly!

    Smartypants: Thanks Smarty!

edmonton_stinks: Actually I did stumble across that airport hotel, but I thought it would look a bit big and out of place for the size and location of the airport. Thanks anyway for having a look on the STEX 1.gif

Great work on the suburbs. I especially like the end because you have (rather realistically) completely filled it up with mansions. Most high wealth neighbourhoods I see have a handful of R$$ houses sprinkled in, and they look really out of place.
