You guys have to undertand that there is more to this than just modelling. The way the BAT spits these files out, there are multiple model files, one for each zoom angle (4) and one of those for each zoom (5). So there are 20 model files, and that's for every tile of the interchange. First, you have to unify these model files into one model for each tile.

Then, you have to skin the S3Ds, because the unifying process removes any textures. This in particular takes a while, because you have to work with the UVW tools in iLive, which aren't very good.

Then, you have to write exemplars and SC4Paths for each piece. The exemplars give the pieces all their transit-related properties, and the SC4Path files dictate how each type of automata should move while on the tile.

Finally, you have to test it.


I hope I don't seem put-downy, but I'd just like to let you know the hard work people like RedLotus and Tropod are doing.

wow you make me not want to download this anymore. i feel so bad... i take it for granted that these nice people are doing this hard work, and they dont even get any simoleons out of it. i think Tropod & Co. LLC should talk to maxis.

but of course i will continue to download the NAM as i actually talked to tropod about this. i am looking into changeing some things in my game. when i get home im gonna download the ilive reader.

Can you make a 6 highway intersection. I have this all meeting at the same time, and really could use one. I know its like one of those things that seems  hard, but ive seen your work, and used it, so i know you could. 44.gif

I really appreciate how Tropod and Redlotus consistently work hard for the fans. 10.gif I really would like to thank you guys for being the greatest modders out there. You're releases are kind of like SimCity Days to me which definitely replaces the ones 23.gif that Maxis have been giving to us for the last couple of weeks.

Tropod sorry to ask or but I dont like how on some intersections ask if you would like to make an overpass...Can you make a little fix on the thread for some of us that would like it to stop asking..

    Ok folks;
    Here is a Ped Malls Plugin [& Please, read everything below before trying to use this eh?]:
    Once you've downloaded the file, unzip it and place it in the exact same folder as the Main mod [from the mods page-you will need the main mod from the mods page if you don't have it, otherwise this by itself will not work]

    PLEASE NOTE: That this should be considered as an Alpha item; & as such should NOT be used in any cities that you intend on keeping/saving [in other words, if you're going to use this, you should only use this for fun &/or to report feedback from]. The reason for this is the format of it may change.
     
    Currently, there is only one 1x1 Ped Mall Tile piece. But, hopefully this can be added to. There is currently no preview [on the cursor] for it; & there's also currently no Menu Icon for it either [all of which will be done at a later stage].
     
    To use this;
    Pedestrian Commuters [or Sims] can only Access these Ped Mall tile pieces from a MT-based Lot [like a Bus stop for example]. Every other piece next to [or attached to] any one of these will work fine, but Sims can only access them from a MT-based lot. However; as far as actually reaching their job/work is concerned; Ped Mall Tile pieces can be used in place of Road/Street/Avenue/onewayroad networks, & sims will still be able to access their jobs [assuming the commute isn't to long, & assuming it's linked up properly].
     
    Here is a sample example picture of how this might work & should be used [NOTE: The actual Ped Mall tile piece in the above file is not the same as this]:

    Please take note of the set-up here. Like I said, this is just an example [if the Ped Mall pieces were layed out next to the road, Sims would only be able to access them via going through a MT-based lot].
     
    I would be interested on hearing any feedback regarding the Ped Mall stuff, as I am still a little unsure about certain aspects of it [like its Menu Placement for example].

    I would be really interested in using this if the peds could access it from the road grid instead of a MT lot. I could really use something like this in one of my cities. Between my Commercial and Residential zones, I currently use a bunch of custom roads and streets that ped only. If they could access these ped tiles of yours from the road grid, I could clean up some of my menus. Plus these look better than what I have assembled.

    All Hail, the great Tropod has created a Pedestrian Mall! :) One question and one comment to follow:

    Question:
    Does a parking lot or garage count as an MT building? While not being able to connect these to roads and get traffic might be annoying, it's somewhat understandable since there'd be no place to park. If a lot/garage could serve as the connection point, then both the practical and logical problems could be solved right there.

    Comment:
    Would it be possible to turn the ANT into this? That way they could be layed in strips instead of 1x1 tiles. I'm not yet sure I'd actualy WANT this as the ANT, but I'm just curious if it's a technical possiblity.

    Vlad there is a thread I started called traffic success .There is an edited NetworkMod_Automata_Plugin_Radical file on that page that basicly places more car onto the roads and freeways as they get more crowded.

    I had actually done that with an original conception piece I had done for Ped Malls, but I decided against it for a particular reason. I guess I could include one that can connect to Road [or Street even if that's more preferable?], but someone will need to make a piece so that it converts from Road[or Street &/or whatever else] to a Ped Mall type thing nice and smoothly. This would need to be done in BAT.

    Well, Parking Garages are MT-based [though somewhat different], but I can't say off-hand whether it'd include them too or not though. It may [or it may not]. As for making the ANT Ped Mall based; don't count on it. At this present time, it's not possible [& may never be].

    let me throw out a question here. which file are using to get the sims to walk that far. if my bus stops arent place like 20 tiles apart the sims would use the cars. even after i have in effect the MT only ordinance. its really annoying when they use cars and then get no job zots because the commute time is too long. maybe i should put in a subway system.

    that actually just made me think of a good thing to start doing. 37.gif the subway system. ill look into that on my own to see what kind of values i can change with my newest toy (thanx ILive). 44.gif

    Is that Building/Lot, a Custom LOT/Bat? And if so, where is it and who made it? I don't see anything that is conflicting with this; that's why it leads me to believe it's a custom lot.

    Tell me, what needs a lot of work? The ones in the picture, or the actual piece that comes with the File?....make sure you have a think about this before you answer 21.gif.

    Ped Malls *ponders the thought* I really like the idea and I know quite a few people can put them to good use, but I don't know if I'll ever use them. I guess I'll wait and see.19.gif

    It's likely that this is due to conflict with other transit related mods. I originally had the same problem as well, but when I removed some of the other transit related mods (they are listed in the instructions for installation) the overpasses worked fine.

    Hey Tropod love the ped mall ideas.
     
    Here is a suggestion for perhaps making the ped malls ever better. You said that you can only enter through mass transit so what if you were to transit enable a lot where peds/cars/busses go in on the street side and peds come out into the ped mall and then just call it ped mall entrance and put alittle sign above it saying like plaza entrance also can you make the tiles speed the peds walking speeds up it seems like i remember seeing somewhere in one of the files where you can change the transit time cost per tile or something like that so that when a ped is on the tiles they can walk much further like 20 tiles or so also what about using these with parking structures?
     
    I cant wait to get my hands on these and build a nice walking area where my sims can shop and eat (well only work lol) down by a river and then put parking garages on either side. Also perhaps you could pass this info along to cobb so he can transit enable his peir lots he just released aswell as schmails boardwalk tiles and ofcourse if peg were still making lots i would love to see his water front stuff ped enabled.
