Nice looking update, I love your close ups. They indeed look good.

I don't usually play in Zoom level 5 though, my cities are to big for that, I would just be looking at a wall of a skyscraper. And my smaller cities just aren't detailed enough, and I'm not willing to put more time in detailing them.

Korot

    Hello to All!

Another construction site report instead of an update ... and a Bad News.

The reason why I was able to restart Urland about one year ago was the release of Windows 7 beta / Windows 7 RC. On XP during an update the soundcard driver was updated, since then SC4 is CTD whenever your plop something or zoom / scroll too much. I tried to reinstall the original driver but with no success. Either I am not clever enough to replace the sound card driver properly or it is another problem.

In 2 days the lifetime of Windows 7 RC as a prerelease will be finishing and it will start to close automatically in intervalls that will become shorter and shorter untill it finally won't start up again. This means the end of my Sc4 activities because I simply don't have the money to buy Windows 7 not to speak of a new pc. Maybe I am going to get SC4 eventulally working on XP again but at the moment it does not look like this at all.

I'll have some more or less older not shown material from the last month that may become some updates, and I think I'll get that promised update going, but the future of Urland after the next two or three months is not certain at all...

Anyway - here are the answers and replies and then I have a construction site report for you!

@Benedict: I must confess I don't want to play without my 2+GB plugins at all however I did recognize your CJ even though I am not a regular poster - shame on me. It's a great work you did there! 19.gif

@Simbourgeois: Your compliment is highly appreciated. I do love your collages, too, even though or because it's not my style. But if all did the same it would be boring, wouldn't it? 2.gif

@Korot: Well, one reason why I probably never will complete a big map on that region ...

    Now the

    Construction site report

I confess, concerning LE etc. I am rather ... lazy. If not necessary I prefer to play the game with what I got. But sometimes you got some corners that just won't fit together...  15.gif

    CS3.01: Not the expected results

And after hours and hours in Reader and FiSHman and PaintShop and SC4Tool and LotEditor and LEProp and Reader, just when you finished that necessary dozen lots and plopped it where they should be ...

... then you see that you need a new terrain mod as the current one just ate up all your work ...

And not only this, the No-jagged-diagonal-edges isn't working as expected, too! 15.gif  Most probably one day I have to make me my own ...

CS3.02: A positve Effect of the water texture bug

Sometimes even the watertexturebug has it good side: at least you can see what I did today ...

And: the grid is on becouse these are technical shots! 30.gif

    CS3.03: The final (?!?) result

Well, the (recent?!?= final results. I may do some more terraforming and finetuning here ...

    CS3.04: From another angle ...

From another angle it looks better as the wood has mercy to hide the worst corners ...

    CS3.05: Overview

An overview. If you went up the river a bit at the ride side of the picture you'd see the water power plant I just burned recently  in the Simforum Picture Competition.

    CS3.03: Another Construction Site

Another patient: THIS IS NOT A CONIFEROUS WOOD! At least it doesn't look at all like the Blackforrest wich isn't bay far not that ill that you would see the sun-sensitive trunks!

Unfortunately real nice MayorMode Coniverous trees are rather rare ...

And for the sake of completeness the picture from the Simforum Picture Competition:

    A Competition Picture

Initially I wanted to use this map for the SC4Devotion village competition but with my concept I finally got 5000 inhabitants ... anyway ...

Ok, while I was writing this the final backup is running.

    Take care my friends!

    Hello To All!

I do have a key to the solution of my problems here but couldn't use it - my short one keeps his daddy busy and in addition to this I try to start and run my own business at the moment ... Anyway - the long awaited update is here (promised at christmas, delivered at easter, oh boy, I do beat myself in bad habits ... 14.gif )

    But before we start:

    @aleking: Wow, thanks ... (*speechless*) 6.gif

@Benedict:Thanks for the compliment. Speeking of Details, I hope there are some for you in this (loooong overdue) update ...! 2.gif

Update Nr. 14: Hainingen, Part II: Tips & Tricks

Pic 14.01A very early shot. So obvious but also so often forgotten: think about what you want to have BEFORE you go into detailing. Not the usual type of a village but there are exceptions to almost all rules.

You can see the old village road running through the village passing the church and how the village grew towards the railway line which also attracted the main employer, the local industry. Small railway lines and factories (I-D or I-M but NOT I-HT!) often formed a kind of symbiosis: one kept the other alive and the death of one way too often caused the death of the other, too.

I-HT in general  is not suitable for such small village industrial areas at the railway lines, they usually have less to transport and most of the time rely to trucks. That's why you find so much of them on the green field not far away from a Autobahn (Highway).

    Pic 14.02

Detailing is almost finished. I like to use the old Gascooker R$ Rowhouses as they are kind of universal.

Please compare the length of the RR station with the length of the village - they are almost the same. Saw this quite some time IRL...

    pic 14.03

A small green area between industry and farms looks nice and is also a reference to the game mechanics - the fields just don't dilapate so fast. Keep in mind however that each plopped tree is a possible trigger for the change to I-HT so don't forget to mark your I-D resp. I-M historic BEFORE you into detailing.

Using one of Jestarr's plopable factories that work as a freight station isn't a bad idea at all even in rural areas - think about what I said before about the symbiosis!  2.gif

    Pic 14.04

A closeup to the rails and the industry.

Small factories as they grow when you start a new region / unconnected map look really unrealistic IMHO. But to get the bigger stage 3's you need a little bit of region wide population so never forget to have at least one big(ger) town on your map!

Then start zoning some starter lots with the Ctrl-key (for Industrial Anchor) and around them some free (for Industrial Mech and Out) otherwise you might get a problem that industry doesn't grow even though you have quite some zoned but empty tiles!

Not also the small recycling station nestled in between?

Let's have a look at the level crossing: Before and after it there's a puzzle piece without base texture however the level crossingis a standard Maxis railway pieces WITH textures. Bad? Not at all - the grey road has sidewalks before and after the crossing and a crossing is also suitable for pedestrians ... 2.gif

    Pic 14.05

Let's go to the signals. This would be a logical setup as trains will enter and leave the staion only on these two tracks - the other sidings are only used for shunting maneuvers. However, with some exceptions in the SW of Germany it is not. Mechanical semaphores have to be placed right or above the track they are assigned to (it is a bit different with the new dayligh signals but since they are not available yet I don't discuss this here!). Collections of signals for all tracks outisde the tracks like they are / have been used in Great Britain are strictly forbidden in Germany since 1937!

    Pic 14.06

Two possible situations. The upper would be for singe track (with the straight track on the left side!) and the lower for double tracked lines. Remember to put them before the level crossing in order to protect it!

    Pic 14.07

Entry signals should be placed not too close to the station itself. A good compromise would be at the end of the long Str->DTR converter puzzle piece as you can see on the (missing) base textures. If you use to of these puzzle pieces at each station head don't forget that their straight track should lead to the same side!

If trains are running through the station frequently entry signals usually have pre exit signs like this one.

    Pic 14.08

One of those drawback in Sc4 are the sawtooths ion diagonals. Even though you made some nice diagonal transparent lots you still have the problem that the puzzle pieces don't have base textures while the standart network pieces do have. Any solution for one kind wouldn't work for the other. Except if you use the STR ...

    Pic 14.09

Unlike other networks - includig DTR! - you can find straight and diagonal puzzle pieces for the STR! So instead of get angry at all these sawtooths just make your STR railway as usual, place your smooth curves etc and afterwards plop the straight / diagonal puzzle pieces over the standard STR network - and voila, no more distracting base structur. It works even on neighbour connections!  16.gif

However the transitions is still a bit sharp ...

    Pic 14.10

... bur for things like this we have the RRP!  9.gif. Green Rye and Big Yellow Flowers are perfect for such edges!

    Pic 14.11

And with some trees etc. everything looks way better, too.

Quite a lot of railways have a sometimes wide stripe on each side which is now full with (rather young) trees. During the time of the coal-eating steam locos these stripe have to be kept clear of trees etc. because the steam locos could emit sparks that led to fires. After the era of steam has finished no one took care about them so nature claimed its terrain back.

    Pic 14.12

    From a different angle.

On these stripe you should change the density of the trees, it just looks better.

    Pic 14.12a

BTW the combination of Green Rye and Big Yellow Flowers does work on other field edges, too! 2.gif

    Pic 14.13

Don't worry about those curvy spaces at the smooth curves, they are the perfect area for small woods to give some live into your landscape!

Underneath these trees are mainly standard farm fields and transparent diagonal filler lots as seen in 14.09-14.11, the rest is done with MM things... 1.gif

    Pic 14.13a

.. which don't have to be flora necessarily!  2.gif

I just love that close up!

    Pic 14.14

Keep in mind that some lots do allow to plop MM trees on them. You might have noticed in 14.02. Here I used Simfox's bushes and pine trees to create some kind of hedges with them (regarding the pine trees maybe the only useful function as they are too small, but more about this in a future update).

    Pic 14.15

The same situation from another angle.

See those poplars trees? Ok, the models are a tad old and there are better ones but what I want to show you is how they lined up. Such lines of poplars are eye catchers and markers in the landscape and as such form a characteristic part of it. Usually you find them along dirt roads or (old) roads.

I always wanted to do a mosaic but didn't get there. Still didn't but here is a bigger picture of Hainingen, approximate 2000*2000 pixel, maybe you like it:

    Übersicht

It is less than 1 MB so it shouldn't load to long!  2.gif

    Have fun!

Amazing pictures, as always 19.gif It's nice to see how naturally everything is developing in your region: if there's a station, there must be a village, a church, and one or two small shops...

And you are mastering well the railway puzzlepieces; they fit perfectly in the landscape!

And the outcome... the outcome is this incredible picture of Hainingen which invites you to rent a cabriolet, take the roof off, and take a long ride through the countryside!

    Keep up the wonderful work!

    Yours sincerely,

often formed a kind of symbiosis: one kept the other alive and the death of one way too often caused the death of the other, too.quote>

The other being the actual town, I presume?

That's why you find so much of them on the green field not far away from a Autobahn (Highway).quote>

Not much of a greenfield over here, here they are directly between the highway, and the actual city. Though the fields that are there aren't really green this time of the year anyway, more like the dirty brown from the soil, nicely lined up in longs, small hills, or however those lines are called on farm fields.

A small green area between industry and farms looks nice and is also a reference to the game mechanics - the fields just don't dilapate so fast. Keep in mind however that each plopped tree is a possible trigger for the change to I-HT so don't forget to mark your I-D resp. I-M historic BEFORE you into detailing.quote>

Or just don't educate your sims (much). That will stop them from developing any HT.

Such lines of poplars are eye catchers and markers in the landscape and as such form a characteristic part of it. Usually you find them along dirt roads or (old) roads.quote>

Yes, there once were two rows of them lining one side of a road through downtown Emmeloord (well, as close to a downtown as it gets in small cities). But they got sick and had to be removed. Now the place where they stood is a grass field, but some oaks are supposed to be planted there. "Why not again plant some poplars?" I hear you ask. Well, you'll have to ask that question to the politicians rulling the city.

    OK.

You must be strong now. Really strong. Hope you have the heart pills and the nitro spray in reach.

Because this is an update, a regular one; no teaser, no construction site report. And all this within a week after the last one.

I hope I haven't shocked you too much. To have a little time to recover, here are the Answers And Replies first:

@Simbourgeois: Well, if you take that cabriolet, ride thropugh my hole map, cross its main river and pass along a lot of not-so-nice seddlement and indstrial areas you reach today's update area I hope you'll enjoy a walk though it's cool forests, too! 2.gif

@Korot: Ok, some replies in order of your post:

    • Yes, sometimes the village / towns dies, too. But moszt of the time people are going to commute elsewhere.
    • with green field I meant a non-developed area outside of town with (almost) no  mass transitinfrasturcture at all
    • Well, I whitnessed this transition to I-HT even in maps with no educational facilities at all!
    • what a pity ...

OK, take a last deep breath of air, relax, here it is:

Update Nr. 15: All Along the Watchtower

is a classic rock song by Jimi Hendrix which was in the charts when Papa Nardo was in the making ...   Grin

OK, we don't have a watchtower here but a radio tower but I just couldn't resist the quote ...  Roll Eyes  Cheesy

I think you know this very well, too: You discover this one special BAT on the LEX / SimCityKurier / STEX wherever. Beautifully modelled, no question, very nice, extra ordinary - there's no doubt about that but there's one big question / problem: Where by Jove should you ever find a suitable place for it?

Burg Eltz is one of those, another one is my SFBT comrade ArckenbergJoe's Frohnau Radiotower. Extraordinary RL building, superb modelled and on the right place a great eyecatcher - given you had that special right place!  Mmmm

Consequentially the tower didn't made its way into my plugin folder. Until recently I had to deal with that ridge:

    Pic 15.01

I was playing around a bit with Pegasus' and Girafe's (from ToutSimcity) pine trees to get a reall looking pine tree forest. Then I wanted to stretch the pine trees to the end of the map, but just planting trees on the ridge would have been to ... boring. I wanted something special there. Knowing Burg Eltz from RL I wouldn't plop it there. I could have built a small castle with Kwakelaar's city walls but didn't wanted to here. (I have another castle in the doing where I stuck without something useful at all on another map) . In addition to this the ridge is crossing the map quite exactly on a 45 degree angle.

So what? Maybe a radio or TV tower? Hmmm. Close to  Grünwettersbach (near Kalrsruhe in Gemany) there is such a tower located in the green; the famous TV Tower of Stuttgart (AFAIK the first made of concrete worldwide) is to be found in a forested area.

But somehow I didn't wanted to have such a concrete monster there. So - what about the other possibilities? Which leads us to the BAT mentioned at the beginning of the update:

    Pic 15.02

Winning five rounds in the Simforum Picture Competition it became my fifth entry at the SFBW Hall Of fame. However it failed in the 3rd round of the SC4D Picture Competion.. Oh well ...

You can see clearly that the less steep slope is used for farming untill its top whereas the steep slope is planted with pine trees - more exactly: with a mixture of c.p. and Girafe pine trees.

    Pic 15.03

The same situation seen from the valley "behind" the ridge. This perspective shows perfect how steep and short the forrested slope really is. And if you ever planted steep slopes befre you know that this can be rather frustrating due to a leck of density.

Around the radio tower I used Pegasus' Pine Tree Cluster. Both methods have their advantages and disadvantages.

    Pic 15.04

The radio tower with the retaining wall and the small street winding down the ridge.

If I had been able to turn the lot by 45 degree no retaining walls would have been necesary at all. So I used the corner with the steepo slopes for the road down the ridge.

You can see Pegasus Pine Tree Clusters in the background of the picture. They are very handy to plant a lot of pine trees rather fast on rather big areas. Their disadvantages are that they blend and mix rather bad with other trees and may look a bit uniform - mother nature just has some poers of ten more modells than any Sc4 BATter ..21.gif

    Pic 15.05

Another view on the serpentines. In the foreground again Peg's pine tree cluster with a transition to c.p. / Girafe. Did I ever told you that I love larch trees - both IRL and ingame?

    Pic 15.06

This leads us to the pine trees of c.p. and Girafe. I once showd that only with c.p.s different pine trees you cannot achieve a forest with a suitable density (at least not for my taste). Girafe's pine trees are a bit like the Simfox trees: wondeful modells that can be placed rather dense but planted too dense everythings get lost in a mash of pixels.

However the combination of the two of them will lead to the most beautiful pine tree forest at the moment - just have a look at all these shades of green - but is rather time consuming hence not suitable for the very big areas where Peg's are clearly in advantage.

    Pic 15.07

Just for its beauty: view with the radio tower into the valley "behind" the ridge.

    Pic 15.08

And as a last picture a dirt road almost disappeared in the flora in a c.p. / Girafe pine tree forest.

That's it for today, Hope that you survived untill here - it was the second regular update within a week at last ... 5.gif

    Have fun!

No, all they had was this old and crappy BMW... I barely could get into it! 27.gif

    bmwisettaopen.jpg

But I followed your roadmap, and here I am! And I must say that I really like what I saw on the road (even the industrial areas) and in this update! Although the road going up to the radio tower was too steep for this car, so I had to get out and push it up the hill! 33.gif

Some people asked me why I still use the funtional farms with their sometimes really huge lots instead of making all farms as eyecandy with the ploppable farm fields and the RRP. The answer is easy: I prefer my maps being functional rather than pure eyecandy, but from time to time ... 2.gif

But as always some Answers & Replies before the update:

@Simbourgeois: An Isetta!  18.gif Hehe, my grandfather used a Goggomobil, which was of the same "size" and "strength". My father used it quite a lot to meet my Mum then. Believe it or not there had been quite some mountains that small car couldn't climb (and we are NOT talking about alpine areas!)

@Korot: Thanks for the compliment! 1.gif

@ComputerGuy890100: Thanks for the compliment! 1.gif

    - using THREE Windows OS

    - posting FOUR years and nine months

@Raysfan16: That old classic song's title just fit in here, didn't it? 1.gif

@Larks2242: Thanks for the compliment! 1.gif

@jacqulina: Finally! Boy, did I miss you, my friend! ! If you stop looking by and posting the end is near ...

The small one is doing great - especially grown up females love my little casanova! 21.gif

@heitomat: You're welcome! 1.gif Hope you don't mind that I cannot post new material at the moment though ...

    Update 16: Real Eyecandy

    Pic 16.1

Again a small overview at the beginning. The small canalized creek is the Sittersbach that flows into the qualch on the neighbour map. Sounds familiar for you? Should be - it was my entrant at the Simforum Dorfwettbewerb (village competition) and I presented it here (lower part of the page) to you.

Last time we had been on the right sight of the Sittersbach, this time we go to the other side, in an older area that I laid out before I used Girafe's and Pegasus' Pine trees.

    Pic 14.2

The "real" farm. Grew with green Maxis field that has been spiced up a little bit with the RRP. Unfortunately the lot did have a bad impact on my terraforming so I hid the worst part with some bushes and trees.

    Pic 16.3

A closup that needs some more finetuning at the kanals. These are SimGoobers new Irrigation channels. The new ones feature IMHO better colours and diagonal pieces which enriches and simnplifies a rural layouter's life quite a lot!  9.gif

    Pic 16.4

Real farm field and Eyecandy field

Die Übersicht mit dem Übergang zu dem Eyecandy - Feld.

The forest is a mixed forest with deciduous trees and pine trees from c.p., Simfox and JeroniJ; I didn't know Girafe's pinetrees at that time

BTW with the right view you can solve the saw tooth porblem, too ...16.gif

    Pic 16.5

Going a big backward we can enjoy the eyecandy field. Unfortunately the cows are missing in this zoom level ...

    Pic 16.6

.. which can bee seen in this Zoom level in all their golry.

The wind power plants are situated in a clearing on top of the hills; as you can see deers and hunters like that clearance, too ...  21.gif

When visiting my home last time I saw that single wind power plants are rather rare; instead 2, mostly three of them were combined to groups with the ones on the outside rotated by 30-45 degree. I tried to do this, too, but with only orthogonal lots it's rather hard to do ...

    Pic 16.7

I really love that small shed! You can so easily built it somewhere in your landscape - even at the edge of the map!...

    Pic 16.8

I know some sheds for horses at the edge of the wood that look like this one!

That's it for today. Nothing new but some (hopefully) nice pictures from my pool. I hope you liked it anyway.

    Have fun!

A closup that needs some more finetuning at the kanals. These are SimGoobers new Irrigation channels. The new ones feature IMHO better colours and diagonal pieces which enriches and simnplifies a rural layouter's life quite a lot!  9.gifquote>

Now I can discover the creek on the main map, it is very hard to find, I tell you.

BTW with the right view you can solve the saw tooth porblem, too ...16.gifquote>

Well, I can still see a bit of it, but it is very well hidden indeed. And nice forest, BTW.

When visiting my home last time I saw that single wind power plants are rather rare; instead 2, mostly three of them were combined to groups with the ones on the outside rotated by 30-45 degree. I tried to do this, too, but with only orthogonal lots it's rather hard to do ..quote>

Why would they be rotated relative to each other? Wouldn't it be more effective if all windmills could turn 'round there axes, and thus harness the full force of the wind.

Overall a nice update, can't wait 'till the next one!

    Regards,

    Korot

    Looks pretty good.

    44.gif

However, I find that the wind wheels are too close together. if they both turn together, then push up the wings. there you would have to reduce the distance. otherwise it all looks very good. funny I find the bus, who is astray. maybe you should use a different bustextur, it looks better. I personally use this skin so there: http://kurier.simcityplaza.de/details.php?file=375

am looking forward to another update

    Some Quick Relpies...

@JanYpe: Thanks for the compliment my friend! 1.gif

@ComputerGuy890100:Thanks for the compliment my friend! 1.gif

@Korot: Well, as you could see sometimes I like to hide things ... and SG's (both old and new) Irrigation channels can be used really good for those ecological sins and tortures that have been committed to so many creeks and small rivers in the last 50-100 years ...

About the Windmills: No, IMHO as a civil engineer it is more logic that way in order to get a more continuous flow of electricity. The wind direction may vary within a certain range due to several reasons, and I never saw a turnable windmill - most probably it is cheaper to install three windmills that cannot turn instead of one windmall that can turn within a given range.

It is similar to water turbines which also need a specific direction for the water. And unless air isn't compressed water and air are following the same physics ...

@MR.X.1:Thanks for the compliment my friend! 1.gif

As for the windmills pls see the answer to Korot!

@mightygoose: Thanks for the compliment my friend! 1.gif

@Schulmanator: Thanks for the compliment my friend! 1.gif

... and some words on my own behalf:

As I stated earlier I do have technical problems at the moment and cannot play Sc4 any more. I think I am going to be able to solve these problems in the  near future, however it'll take its time for me to show you new pictures.

Because of this I might put Urland on hiatus for an undefinate time untill I can show you new developements. The alternative would be to show you some older developements which don't have the same quality as the last updates.

So it's up to you: waiting untill I can go on for an uncertain period of time or some older picture that don't reach the standarts set by the last update? It's up to you ...

Well, they say something is better than nothing, so why not show those pictures?

    And regarding your reply:

The wind direction may vary within a certain range due to several reasons, and I never saw a turnable windmill - quote>

I have seen many turnable windmills, and I've always been taught that all windmills can turn 'round their axe. Or at least their head can. And not just those old wooden windmills, the new steel ones used for electricity should be able to turn as well. But apparently, that is not true in Germany.

    @Korot:

Well, at least this is my interpretation as civil engineer of what I witnessed several times. Would be interesting though what an expert in Wind Power Plant says about this ...

Okay, Here's the first of the old updates. Some of you might know the pictures, it was my not really successful entry at the First SC4Devotion Thematic Competition. I always intended to show it as an update in Urland, too, but due to some reason I never did. Anyway, here is:

    Update 17: Kanneldingen

After a lot of terraforming for the "village" I had in my mind for this competition I played it a bit only to find out - nah, no village, small town with 3000+ plus inhabitants. So a second idea, a second approach was necessary - and here it is.

Funny enough it's the direct neighbour map of my Simforum village comp village Leonhardt; however I made the layout for Leonhardt for today whereas Kanneldingen takes place somewhere in the first half of the seventies, in the time, small Nardo went to Kindergarden, the time of the last steam trains before the era of the steam engines finished for good in Western Germany. Yes, Western Germany, as the wall and the Iron Curtain would fall approximately 15-17 years later ...

    VC01: Overview

Now for the duty: Overview of Leonhardt with all the required landmarks.

    VC02: Budget

Not only the budget but also four of the six landmarks can be seen here. You may call this economy ...  18.gif

    VC03: Village Center

The village center with the town hall, Church St. Georg and its cemetary and the village plaza. The representive building to the left of the plaza is the Hotel "Kurfürstlicher Hof", a rather old one. It is run by the family Kannbacher since 1563 who took over an old post station. After a fire in 1759 it was rebuilt in its current barocque style.

One of the last communistic town mayors in Germany was Anton Kannbacher, younger brother of the landlord of the "Kurfürstlicher Hof". He was mayor from 1924 to January 1933. He got arrested soon after the Nazis took over the power and was deported to the KZ Dachau where he died in 1936. During his time the statue of Lenin was erected in 1930. Destroyed in 1937 the statue was reerected by his son Thomas Kannbacher who was town mayer from 1946 untill his death in 1962.

    VC03a: The Shopping Mile

Leading from the main road from the church to the railway station (and Kanneldings bit of industry) you'll find the "Shopping Mile" of Kanneldingen:

    • across the "Kurfürstlicher Hof" the department store "Müller" where you can buy almost everything from a nail to a motorbike
    • the Esso and the Shell Station of the Hanselmann Brothers. They couldn't find a solution to whom the gas station of their father belonged after his death so they split up the lot and opened a gas station each...
    • Willy's Bierrampe, a (not so) good place to drink a (or a lot more) beer in the evenings
    • right next to Willy's the "Goldene Ochse" is most probably the best restaurant in a medium range. It features even a star in the Guide Michelin!
    • brand new at the gates of the town lies the Kaufland, the first big supermarket in the area. It has opened last year and is the declared enemy of Herbert Müller, owner of the department store "Müller"
    VC04: Village Center II

The soccer field of the SC 1911 Kanneldingen is situated right between the railway line and the cemetary. Noone ever counted how many balls went into the graveyard or the Rennbach but most probably not too much as the SC never one any title in his history ...

Bad people say that the doctor (the house next to the cemetary) has a perfect view to his future patients (from the soccer field) and already gone patients (on the cemetary) from his window ...

    VC05: Good Old Times

Nostalgia looks best in b/w ...

A steam train is passing the entry signal of Kanneldingen heading to Leonhardt. Steam train, semaphores, telegraph lines, signs of an era long gone

    VC06: The Rennbach Valley

The Rennbach Valley. During the erection of the railway line in 1865 and later of the road in the thirties the Rennbach lost more and more of his natural bed and became rather channelized due to a lack of space.

    VC07: Block Post Rennbach

The level crossing of the L301 with the railway line is secured by a block post. The semaphores can be opened only after the level crossing is secured. Nothing works automatically here, the blockpost (the small house next to the level crossing) must be filled with a person who handles both level crossings and semaphores during the time of train traffic!

    VC08: Agriculture Around Kanneldingen

Leaving Kanneldingen into the hills you don't see much special - just farms & forrests. Hey, what do you expect - it's the countryside!

    VC09: Farming

This is what you call an Aussiedlerhof. The farmer has given up its farm buildings in the village and moved to the fields. His employes are living in the small houses next to the farm.

No bus stop here, have a car or walk - it's the countryside!

    VC10: Leaving Kanneldingen

That's it for today. Next update will be "new" old stuff ...  21.gif 18.gif

    Untill then

    Have fun!

How on earth did you get such high RES and IND demand, while your COM demand is through the floor?

They couldn't find a solution to whom the gas station of their father belonged after his death so they split up the lot and opened a gas station each...quote>

Yeah, a really wise thing to do.... [/sarcasm]

The soccer field of the SC 1911 Kanneldingen is situated right between the railway line and the cemetary. Noone ever counted how many balls went into the graveyard or the Rennbach but most probably not too much as the SC never one any title in his history ... quote>

Doesn't mean that the field isn't used...

Bad people say that the doctor (the house next to the cemetary) has a perfect view to his future patients (from the soccer field) and already gone patients (on the cemetary) from his window ...quote>

Why are they bad people? They seem rather wise, as they are correct.

The level crossing of the L301 with the railway line is secured by a block post. The semaphores can be opened only after the level crossing is secured. Nothing works automatically here, the blockpost (the small house next to the level crossing) must be filled with a person who handles both level crossings and semaphores during the time of train traffic!quote>

Isn't it cheaper on the long run to change the signals to automatic than hiring a person to sit in that house all day?

Leaving Kanneldingen into the hills you don't see much special - just farms & forrests. Hey, what do you expect - it's the countryside!quote>

    A county-fair?

This is what you call an Aussiedlerhof. The farmer has given up its farm buildings in the village and moved to the fields. His employes are living in the small houses next to the farm.

No bus stop here, have a car or walk - it's the countryside!quote>

Well, if the bus already passes the area, then why not errect a bus stop? A simple sign post will do.

That's it for today. Next update will be "new" old stuff ...quote>

Some parts of this update already seem quite new, and by that I mean the water colour of the Rennbach, ergo: PPond.

amazing work here and by Bob you deserved that trixie! I cannot believe how good all your work is! To say, 'keep up the good work' would be very patronising... so don't do any bad work (which you can't)!

    Lol:

The level crossing of the L301 with the railway line is secured by a block post. The semaphores can be opened only after the level crossing is secured. I thought this was Germany! the home of the most efficient people in Europe - not automatic - how could they... 4.gif

Update 18: Kanneldingen - Some additional Pics

Like Leonhardt there'S an update with some pics that didn't made it into the final selection or just didn't belong ro a competition entry but may be interesting in a "normal" update.

But as always before we start:

    @Korot:

    • Well, if you have a 600K+ town in a 1.000K- region where you killed commercial demand due to too much W2W commercial plopping ... 21.gif
    • Automatic signals are definately cheaper. That's why the last ones have been replaced some years ago. But when they started replacing them in the fiftes there had been ten thousands of non-automatic ones to replace ....
    • The mayor said a simple bus stop would be too expensive for these little people out there ...
    • Actually I started to use the PPond at that time ....
@cacks: Thanks for the compliment! 1.gif The valley was in fat the most tricky part of the map. As for the non-automatic signals see my answer to Korot!

    @JLAAPRTM:

OK, not much historic backgrounds, this time some last pictures untill we are going on going back in time ... 2.gif

    Pic 18.1

A "naked" overview. Usually my small maps look like that before I go into detailing. On medium and large maps I have some initials cells and developement axis that I go along developing my town. A bit like Natural growth in fact...

    Pic 18.2

For an advance like this I need 1-3 session depending on daily form, available time and difficulty level of the terrain.

    Pic 18.3

The Presignal of the Block Post. Hidden in the picture you may find some of my typical LE works: small lots adapted to certain locations. I just forgot the sawtooth ...24.gif

    Pic 18.4

There has been a time when Pedrianas caused hysteria and made so much city builders look for the No-Pedriana - mod. But since I have enough other stage 3 farms I can see no problem with one or the other pedriana popping up from time to time - compared with the pedriana the forgotten sawtooth is much worse!

    Pic 18.4a

I haven't showed it much: the farms on the other side of the Rennbachs.

The high voltage powerline wouldn't be necessary but I like to use them as landscape forming details

    Pic 18.5

The edge of Kanneldingen and the railway line to Leonhardt.

    Pic 18.6

I like that ensemble. And I said it before: the ingame water tower is perfect for use at railway stations!

If you look closely you can see that this is an early screenshot ...

    Pic 18.7

Again the railway station. On one side residentials ...

    Pic 18.7a

... on the other side some industrials at the edge of the village. I saw layouts like this rather often IRL.

    Pic 18.8

Because of its benefitial location: The doctor's house

    Pic 18.9

And to close for today a closeup with some homes.

That's it for today, next time will be more "historical" ...

    Have fun!
