Was i hit by an earthquake?

I was just watching the city animation when i decided to make a few small suburbs. paused the game, added in some low-density residentials in the corner of my city, added a wind power plant as i didnt want to add to the mainstream, unpaused, and about 20 seconds later power literally cuts, sending my entire city to a stop. whats more is several buildinds in random places are destroyed, and roads throughout my city have also been destroyed. at first i thought it was a graphical glitch, then i noticed that there where random roads in the middle of nowhere that where still there, whereas large chunks of my transit where gone!

does anyone have a clue what an earth happened? my power was dependant on a neighbour connection. i noticed that the electricity pylons connecting me to that city was gone. i reistablished that connection but im not given the option to buy power from them anymore. this is crazy? i cant enter live-mode in this current state. theres a good chance i have to totally re-lay all my roads, power lines, water supplys, and then build a power plant that can relieve my 24k demand. thats another annoying factor. nuclear power comes into the game when your power demand is 25k. i was approaching 25k when those suburbs started to build, but cos of this power cut the power demand has dropped to 0, so if i dont reistablish neighbour connections, i have no sutable power supply that can meet my massive demand without horrible cost or pollution.

Whoa! That's weird man! Maybe SimCity 4 just mixed something up in the disasters and caused an earthquake. I honestly don't know! 15.gif Only thing I recommend is save your city every five minutes so that if something like that does happen, you won't loose that much effort...

I have seen something like this when I used a cheat to change the sea level in a city, deleted powerlines, bridges, random roads (especially NAM pieces), but as far as I could see, no buildings harmed. It also disrupted power generation, even though the power plant was in fine condition. Does this relate to your problem? Maybe, could have just been a glitch, but it wasn't an earthquake since it did not leave a fault line.

i didnt even know you could get earthquakes in sim city 4. it doesnt appear in the disasters list. i DID try and create a few hills, which freezed the game for about 20 seconds, but i didnt notice anything as i was zoomed right in, so i ignored it.

There is a cheat, Riskymoney, if used to much will actually cause the game to trigger earthquake. Just like Funds (or whatever it was) in previous versions.

The pic does look unusual though; doesn't appear as if any buildings have been damaged, only roads but not all of them? That's quite odd indeed.

A city-wide riot might cause this, but even with 100% red mayor rating a riot can't get THAT bad. Pus, you would hear about it and it could be stopped with a sufficient police force. But your rating looks fine and your city seems fine.

Tropod: I never heard of that cheat. Is it sercret or new or something?????

That happened to me before when I  was using the god mode cheat. I clicked this one button that roughens the entire city area. As a result, most of the roads, parks, and subway stations disappeared. Good thing I saved before using the god mode cheat.

Did you use any cheats while building the city?

God mode cheat? all i did was create a small slope for some residential. i hit CTL-ALT-DEL and clicked god mode, but its the same as doing it on mayor mode isnt it? thought that was just for the trees.

That is the weirdest thing I've ever seen in SC4.  It can' t be an earthquake.  Earthquakes can only be triggered in God mode and on purpose.  Plus earthquakes are not that selective in their destruction.  Must have been caused by a bug or triggered by a cheat.  Scott the 3rd sure seems ticked about it though.14.gif

Maybe you acidently clicked on the buttons in god mode that affects the entire land in the city. I am thinking it maybe a bug, if a earthquake was triggered, it would had destroyed some of the buildings.

EDIT: There is this one cheat that unlocks all the buildings that haven't been unlocked yet. The cheat code is, you don't deserve it.
