    WEST DELTALAND

    REPLIES:

TmiguelT: I'm glad I surprised you. I only use NAM Stacks where they naturally fit.

Archean: I agree with you. It's an improvement.

    kj3400: It would have. Thanks.

Today West Deltaland will be showcased, which is located here:

    1-119.jpg

Before it begins, take a look at Zone 6 of the freeway numeration system:

    8-17.png

As you can see, the new freeways have been numbered, with the one running in West Deltaland being Freeway 65.

On the western fringe, there is a commercial district, a continuation of the neighboring city's district:

    2-94.jpg

Towards the central part of the city, and south of Freeway 65, there is a country club next to a major roundabout:

    3-67.jpg

Furthur up the avenue, there is a parclo interchange next to a utility area:

    4-54.jpg

To the southeast, there is the residential development, based around a fused grid plan. There happens to be little problem with traffic:

    5-41.jpg

To the east fringe of the city, a office and retail district sits at the center of a larger fused grid residential area, this one being the northwest quarter:

    6-30.jpg

Lastly, I made a mosaic of a place to the east called East Cassburg, and you can view it here.

    That's all for today.

Please post comments, suggestions, and questions.

THE 65-61 INTERCHANGE AND A TRIP DOWN 221

    REPLIES:

TmiguelT: Well, my interchanges are definently non-standard. I like RHW because it is customizable and I can use my own style of building with it.

Archean: Thanks. With the right plan and plugins, SC4 can have absolutely beautiful neighorhoods.

Haljackey:  1) Well, I'm glad you enjoy it.

    2) Request granted. It will be shown in the Trip Down 221.

Jacqulina: Thanks for your comment. It does seem to be progressing.

This update will be divided into three parts: West Deltaland Revisited, the 61-65 Interchange, and the Trip Down 221.

    1-125.png

We will start with the 65-61 interchange. The picture below beautifully conceals the fact that this picturesque forest is right in the middle of a highly-developed region with almost 8 million residents:

    2-100.jpg

As shown before, here is the trumpet interchange, which connects to a connecting road to Freeway 61:

    3-72.jpg

It curves towards the east, heading for Deltaland proper:

    4-58.jpg

And the connecting road terminates at Freeway 61 via another trumpet interchange:

    5-44.jpg

Why this unusual setup instead of a conventional interchange at the meeting point? Well, this picture demonstrates why:

    6-33.jpg

Not only would a full interchange be difficult due to the tunnel, but it would create heavy weaving with the parclo interchange already there. Therefore, it was deemed prudent to install a connector road linked via trumpet interchanges.

Now we go to West Deltaland Revisted, where there is the parclo that Haljackey mentioned. Below is a zoomed-in picture of the interchange:

    7-25.jpg

And southwards the avenue that will become Freeway 221 serves as a suburban artery, providing a vital route for commuting residents:

    8-19.jpg

In the city tile south of West Deltaland, named East End, the avenue expands into an 8-lane monster corridor -- Freeway 221:

    9-12.jpg

Just after its terminus, it connects to a short spur freeway with a trumpet interchange:

    10-10.jpg

The spur is an 8-lane freeway as well, and carries thousands of residents to and from their homes every day (this picture was taken around midday):

    11-8.jpg

It terminates at a roundabout, the genesis point of the spur. It also happens to be congested, but there is really no way around it, and it is merely a roadblock on the path to no traffic jams on Freeway 221:

    12-7.jpg

Freeway 221 continues southbound, and intersects Freeway 614 at its terminus, a large stack interchange:

    13-7.jpg

Just a few hundred meters south of the interchange, there is a trumpet to another spur, which on its northbound ramp is contiguous with the stack ramp, and forms a very short collector road, which takes weaving off of the main freeway:

    14-7.jpg

And below is the trumpet itself, connecting to the second and last spur along 221's route through Southeastern Patian County:

    15-5.jpg

The spur itself is relatively short, but facilitates a nice and free-flowing connection to the commercial district, removing extra traffic from at-grade roads:

    16-4.jpg

Southwards still, in East Lakefront Industrial District, Freeway 221 makes an important turn, at a Directional T interchange with Freeway 682:

    17-4.jpg

And it is here our journey ends. For convenience directions and freeway shields are included:

    18-3.jpg

That's all for now. Next time we will take a tour of Marksburg along Freeway 682.

Please post comments, suggestions, and questions.

    MARKSBURG

    REPLIES:

Hmm, there aren't any. A most curious phonomenon. Please, if you view it, respond with your comments. They are all appreciated, read, and replied to. That's what this section is for 3.gif.

Firstly, a regional view detaling this update. In blue are the freeways, and the major areas are labeled:

    10-13.png

Along Freeway 682, there is first East Lakefront Industrial District, and then Marksburg. The terminus of 682 is here, where we (or rather I ,since there were no replies) left off:

    18-3.jpg

Skipping East Lakefront Industrial, as that was covered in a previous update, we arrive in Marksburg, Freeway 682 still a divided RHW-8:

    1-131.jpg

To the east is the northern district of Marksburg, the future site of a commuter center, when the area is fully developed:

    7-28.jpg

Southwards, Freeway 682 intersects with Freeway 681 (convenient numbering, isn't it) via a volleyball interchange:

    2-106.jpg

Just half a kilometer furthur, there is a compact partial cloverleaf, which serves as the gateway to a central business district to the right:

    3-77.jpg

And here is a close-up of the interchange itself:

    4-63.jpg

The aforementioned district is dominated by high-rises in the southwest, with medium- and low-rises scattered in the rest of the district:

    5-48.jpg

And a closer shot at the high-rises:

    6-37.jpg

Northbound, the eastern avenue of the whole city intersects Freeway 681 in another parclo, this one with NAM avenue roundabouts:

    8-22.jpg

Lastly, a snapshot of the entire city tile, showing all development:

    9-15.jpg

Please post comments, suggestions, and questions.

Just a suggestion... could you please include a region population somewhere in the updates?

To search for the ideal city today is useless. For all cities are different. Each one has its own spirit, its own problems, and its own pattern of life. As long as the city lives, these aspects continue to change. Thus to look for the ideal city is not only a waste of time but may be seriously detrimental. In fact, the concept is obsolete; there is no such thing.

Are you trying to copy Zelgadis? That region is starting to look pretty filled up as of late. There were certain places along the river that caught my eye immediately! Great work!

    NEW SIGNAGE AND NEW HOUSING

    REPLIES:

Schulmanator:  Thanks. I'm pleased that it looks good.

TmiguelT: I'm glad my interchanges are inspiring, and that you liked the update.

    Astronelson: No problem...

    1-134.png

    Jacqulina: Thank you.

Archean: If it is like Zelgadis, it is not intentional. Thanks for your compliment.

For now we will take a pause in our seemingly endless journey across Patian County, and park ourselves in Marksburg, watching new developments. In the time since the last update, a lot has happened, starting with this new GTR sign at a rather inconspicuous intersection...

    2-108.jpg

...which is only part of a larger, more conspicuous paperclip interchange, as well as an associated rail line and neighborhood:

    3-79.jpg

To the south, there is another area using a fused grid plan, which will in time be integrated with a high-rise development a few kilometers westward:

    5-50.jpg

Below is a snapshot of the southern part of the development:

    4-65.jpg

And lastly, a selection of signage around the city. This one is a pair of direction signs with a bus riding below it, who likely saw it and determined where he needed to go:

    6-39.jpg

This one is on the other freeway next to the volleyball interchange, and demonstrates high-definition props and the new signs for RHW 3.0 (RHW-8 is better than RHW-6, isn't it?):

    7-30.jpg

    That's all for today.

Please post comments, suggestions, and questions.

    THE SHOWCASE RETURNS... WITH AXUN

    REPLIES:

Haljackey:  1) Yes, there still is a reason.

    2) I do like super-wide medians, but I have intended to have some narrow medians for quite some time, but it has never come to fruition yet.

    TmiguelT: I agree.

Well, I suppose consistency of updating is a virtue in the CJ arena, but the fact is that, when there is RL issues or big developments in Franklin, the Showcase gets brushed aside. But it is back now, and as I say, in full vigor.

I shall make this return a good one, and hopefully worth your wait.

Today I shall showcase new developments in a city in the far eastern reaches of Patian County, called Axun.

    1-143.jpg

This is what we last saw of Axun, back in March:

And, lastly, a sneak peak at the emerging Axun city center, with its developing ring road surrounding it:

    9.jpg

Will this serve as a catalyst for a large urban center?quote>

The question has been finally answered. It has:

    14-10.jpg

The ring road has recieved the designation of Freeway 641, serving Freeways 4, 64, and 66.

This time, we shall enter Axun by way of Freeway 66 northbound. Here the freeway curves in preparation for the bridge crossing:

    2-115.jpg

Freeway 66 then rises up, and crosses the seawalled river:

    3-85.jpg

    The road slopes downward....

    4-70.jpg

...and merges into 641 via a trumpet interchange:

    5-51.jpg

The ring road makes a unique curve to the north (which was pretty difficult to build), and interacts with an avenue and Freeway 64, with a partial cloverleaf and trumpet, respectively:

    6-40.jpg

There has been a traffic bottleneck here, which has led to this interesting creation:

    7-31.jpg

It is rather bizarre, but serves its function rather well, with congestion being minimal.

Below is a shot of northern Axun proper, showing some (rather untasteful) building repetition:

    8-24.jpg

Now we will revisit the place we started on 641, only this time touring eastward.

We see here an overpass, a residential development, and a parclo interchange connecting the developments:

    9-17.jpg

Northbound there is an avenue curving into the downtown area, with a strategically (some would say inconveniently) placed toll:

    10-15.jpg

Panning eastward, there is an interesting and to-date unique interchange in Patian County, a

    left-ramped central roundabout interchange:

    11-10.jpg

And below are two shots closely showing the high-rises in downtown. More of these towers are plopped than you might think at first 2.gif:

    12-9.jpg

    13-9.jpg

And that is all for Axun, at least for now.

In the next update, which will come sooner than this one did, I have a surprise for you... of an outer suburban nature.

Please post comments, suggestions, and questions.

This city is utterly amazing. I am speech-less. Your interchanges are amazing great job and keep up the good work.

I noticed you are using the Rural Highway mod. I have a question about those. How do you get the offramps to connect to normal streets, avenues or one way roads?

Also, what types of trees are you using? I would love to have those trees. The only ones I have are PEG pines trees from Pegasus.

Bullet: what do you think about dragging the MIS (of-ramp) using the RHW-tool?

Patricius: I see that Axun has developed a lot, but that bizarre interchange does have a problem: what If I come from the RHW and wan't to go down town, I seem to be unable to do that, at least without taking a detour.

TEASER OF THE COMING SUBURBAN EAST

    REPLIES:

    Jacqulina: Thank you.

Archean: I do agree. Green space is good for a city.

Tmiguel: Glad you like those rare interchanges. Rare interchanges seem to be quite common in Patian County.

Bullet413:  1) To have MIS ramps intersect Maxis roads, just click and drag the MIS ramps.

    2) I'm not really sure. I believe they came with some sort of sign pack that dates back to late 2006. I'm sure if you download a lot of sign packages you will find it.

Korot: Ah, there are 2 other interchanges down the road which connects to downtown.

Not much to show today except a teaser picture, and to reply to your comments. The next update will show the new suburban areas.

Patricius, as it is a ring road, which way is down? Nice little teaser, it looks like the suburb has been build in a rather rural environment, one which I have yet to see in Patrician country.

    OUTER SUBURBIA BEGINS

    REPLIES:

Korot:  1) Down, in this case, is south and then eastward.

    2) That is the idea.

    Archean: Thanks.

Korot: That's what it is supposed to do - function as a park.

The first city tile in the new outer suburban areas of Patian County is taking shape here:

    1-152.jpg

On the primary freeway through the area, there is a parclo interchange which connects freeway to avenue. Near the interchange there is a commercial area, and connections to housing:

    2-121.jpg

Between developments, there is a small forested area, around a cliff and a spring:

    3-89.jpg

South of the forest, there exists the southern development, connected to the avenue, and the rest of Patian County, by a RHW-2:

    4-72.jpg

That is pretty much all that is here so far, but for the finale, below is a close-up of the spring and associated lake:

    SUBURBAN DEVELOPMENT PROGRESSES

    REPLY:

Korot: Well, I decided to build the lowest-density development first, as there are often quasi-rural areas in outer suburbia, since it is the boundary between the suburban and the rural.

First, a regional view. The yellow area is development new in this update. In red is the area which will be developed later:

    b49ce267.jpg

In the area, an RHW-2 curves northbound, serving as the arterial route carrying traffic to other roads from the residential developments. The business area has also expanded:

    1-154.jpg

Zooming out, we see this development in relation to the rest of the city tile:

    2-123.jpg

At the northern terminus of the RHW-2, it merges into Freeway 65 by way of a trumpet interchange:

    3-90.jpg

It is a first for Patian County, being a two-lane trumpet interchange, although it was tried 2 years before the present in an older region (albeit not with RHW 3.2).

    Below is a close-up:

    4-73.jpg

And that is all for now. Another update will probably come this weekend.

Please post comments, questions, and especially and above all others, questions.
