    REPLIES (again):

jacqulina: Glad of it. You'll see more in this update.

Twenty20: Thanks. Look to this CJ for advice on those cities.

Here it is: The Western District -- Part I.

As you recall, we went east on I-301, through a tunnel. We emerge onto a sunken highway:

    73228840rc7.jpg

We drive eastward and encounter a cloverleaf interchange:

    77785938he4.jpg

And here I-301 terminates into an avenue:

    54291750ct0.jpg

Furthur onward we encounter a stadium, and a peek of a Y-stack:

    47033719xl7.jpg

AND finally, here is a monstrous mosaic from me showcasing a North-South cross-section of Western District:

It's a very big city. Is it possible to know how many inhabitants are living in this town ?

First of all, in response to requests for the populations of Western District, here are the statistics:

    Residential -- 747, 769

    Commercial -- 740, 141

    Industrial -- 0

    REPLIES:

Rictiovarus: Yes, it is huge. Your question has been answered.

Twenty20: It is huge. My biggest one yet. And, obviously it is possible (look above) 18.gif

I have decided to show some new developments from the Fused Grid/Roundabout Update (remember). As promised, here is the fused grid city that has developed:

    88373710vt9.jpg

    87012662dc5.jpg

A new compact and high-capacity diamond interchange:

    19168435px5.jpg

And a view furthur north of a commuter artery:

    83138821ds0.jpg

That is all for the fused grid city for this update. Below is the monstrous avenue roundabout:

    49960004wn6.jpg

    And a furthur out view:

    93686379my2.jpg

As you can see an industrial sector has developed around it, plus the trees inside it helps to clean pollution 4.gif.

THE FULL TURBINE AND WINDMILL INTERCHANGES

nihonkaranws: I'm working on it. Due to many dependencies to download, it's slow work 45.gif

haljackey: Yes, it is awesome. It acts like a huge roundabout 3.gif

Mebert: Only 2% of the time. But if I do, I delete the city and start over 11.gif

    jacqulina: Thank you.

un1: Don't stare in amazement too long. Your eyes may get fried 46.gif

manman99: Depending on complexity and type of network, anywhere from 20 minutes to 4 hours.

    manman99: See above 3.gif

Here is the culmination of 4 hours work:

    eastaugustanov140312125gj0.jpg

The FULL TURBINE interchange. It was inspired by some posts on the Show Us Your Interchanges! thread.

After development, here is the traffic pattern:

    57578049zl4.jpg

Notice how all movements can be completed at high speed, with no weaving or slowing down.

Also, I have built what Kurumi.com calls a "windmill interchange":

    87938885bn1.jpg

For more on windmills, click here.

On the next update, I'll showcase more of the city-building itself, instead of solely the interchanges.

    WEST AUGUSTA

    REPLIES:

un1: Well, it is only a prototype. However, the basic idea is right. Looking forward to your ideas...

sedimenjerry: Search on the STEX and LEX -- there's stuff there that enhance your city. Even the smallest lots can dramatically enhance the appeal of an area -- try it -- you'll see....

In this update I will showcase most of WEST AUGUSTA, which has some pretty interesting things in it.

    Here is an overview:

Click it, Simtropolis user, and post a comment!

An arterial road provides access between roundabout in the middle of the city and the northern tollway:

    The Central Roundabout

Over in the raised area, a super two provides access to the South Freeway:

For more about Super Twos, simply Google it!!

    via a Partial Y interchange:

Partial Interchanges are discouaged under Federal Highway standards, but this isn't managed by them, is it?

On the north tollway, a Parclo interchange connects the North-South Artery to the tollway:

    It's a 2 quadrant parclo

On the northern tollway, a toll charges vehicles for entrance into the tunnel to the industrial area:

    40923864ly5.jpg

Over the tunnel, a partial diamond connects a freeway to a city road:

    70289894vl5.jpg

Some development next to the freeway:

    85993100rn1.jpg

    Sunset over a cloverleaf:

    The sunset was edited in\

And I leave you today with a pic of the night coming in West Augusta:

    DIXON AREA

    REPLIES:

jacqulina: Thank you for your compliments.

City2TheMax: The RHW does have limited urban capabilities at this time. I have found that to do the RHW in an urban area, you need to lay the RHW down before development.

However, I'm sure that the RHW will have full urban capability when MIS flyovers are introduced (v22 or 23, I've heard)

deathtopumpkins: Thanks for the coronation. In reciprocation, I pronounce you King of Oil, from Virgin Shores.

    80244079wn8.jpg

In our continuing tour of the areas of Patian County, I have decided to show you the Dixon Area. It has some tens of thousands of inhabitants, and some reconstruction has been going on in North Dixon.

Here is a high-capacity 2 lane parclo interchange with collector/distributor roads:

    43055487gi7.jpg

It replaced an older, overused Maxis diamond interchange, and it can serve many thousands of cars per day. It will be shown in the Show Us Your Interchanges! thread.

About a kilometer north, there is a newly reconstructed cloverleaf interchange:

    42489204wo1.jpg

Before development engulfed the old Maxis cloverleaf, planners decided to hook up the interchange to the collector/distributor roads. There is no weaving on the central freeway now.

In Central Dixon, there is a veritable urban jungle. Here is a section of elevated highway that has become a dangerous area, because of excessive weaving:

    33627454un6.jpg'

Transit planners are now trying to figure out a way to unweave the area.

    Here is a stack interchange:

    37613539fi0.jpg

And a dense area of skyscrapers:

    14935099dy1.jpg

And lastly, a bonus nighttime pic:

Wow, have I missed a lot! Great job P-M!

One thing: It looks like you are running SC4 @ a resolution of 1024x768. If you resized your images a bit smaller to 800x600, they would look much better on ST.

-Of course, it doesn't hurt to click on them for full resolution too. Thanks for providing that!

    Best,

    -Haljackey

That's a really clever design of the new interchange, wouldn't it be a half-parclo half-diamond? (one side is a parclo the other a diamond)

I'm amazed that that elevated highway is legal.

Thanks. I am now the King of Oil! All will bow before me! (OK, can't let the title go to my head... 9.gif)

    MORE INDUSTRIAL AREAS

    REPLIES:

    haljackey:  1) Thanks.

    2) Yes, I am running on 1024 x 768. The image limit for ST is 800 x 600, but I don't like resizing them and losing quality. Therefore, I decided that, like you, I'd provide a full resolution link in the image.

deathtopumpkins:  1) Well, it is a parclo variant. Mightygoose's Interchange Compendium calls it a "partfold diamond", although I don't know the rationale behind the name.

    2) It would be illegal now, but that highway was built decades ago, and it has found a loophole that has allowed it to stay; but no more.

    3) Well, you can let the title go to your head. Just don't raise the price too much 3.gif

Today I'll show some developments in my industrial and commercial districts, in addition to 2 locations in other areas. So, let's get started!

In the western reaches of a massive I-HT district, a Cloverstack Interchange, inspired by Haljackey's in the Greater Terran Region, provides 4-way complete access with no weaving:

    46403588ci2.jpg

To the east, a park in the middle of a series of intersections complements the district:

    79190586fm7.jpg

To the north, a partial diamond connects a road to an RHW expressway:

    99997705ct5.jpg

To the east of this, in a commerical district, you can make out a roundabout interchange if you look close enough:

    47192864hp4.jpg

Here is an intersection that had a few ramps added in:

    93323711rx8.jpg

That is all for the industrial/commercial districts.

Here you see a Partial Y interchange that was upgraded to provide complete access. What's amusing about this is it ended up being functionally a Directional T variant:

    30450937cg0.jpg

Lastly, in the south of the region, this trumpet has been converted to a Semi-Directional T, thereby making more space for development:

why is that one strech illegal?

and that cloverfield or flat or whtever it was called oh. the cloverstack is missing the eb to sb ramp.

and in the pic with te roundabout in the commercial area. i noticed you had a sunken highway but it appears that it does not connect to the roundabput

    good work

    Ah, was it torn down?

(Sedimenjerry, it was illegal because of the excessive weaving)

And I love that cloverstack, but it is missing the SW ramp.

Just wait til you see what I'll build in my CJ when it starts having highways.

Also, is that AVE/OWR T functional? Everytime I've ever used eleveated OWR curves they're not functional. I can't drive over them in UDI, and commuters won't use them. I keep meaning to report it on one of the NAM threads. Do yours work?

Wow, sweet cloverstack! Its a lot more compact than mine, yet still looks amazing!

-You should make a UDI video so we can get a closer look at that amazing interchange! 3.gif

    -Haljackey
