OOC: Hi guys and girls I'm completely new here. Despite having the game for a few years now I've only just looked at this site and as with most games the fan fiction (in this case city journal) areas has captured me completely. It is for this reason that I've decided to start a city journal of my own. The thing will be started form scratch and all the developments shown here (you'll see what I mean in a minute). Also I don't have much custom content but I do have the important things such as the mods to add all the in game buildings as plopabble. I am also downloading more content as I go along so you can expect the updates to evolve over time Well I hope youa ll enjoy it and all comments are welcome. Right onto the story! NOTE: This is a completely fictional island.

Its 2018 and england has just been through rough times. Two opposing political parties have just gone head to head in a violent confrontation. As the victor prepares to crush his opponent completely the defeated flee. Commandering several tankers the defeated party and its followers take to the seas as fast as they can heading overseas towards Canada.

Several weeks later with tempers running high onboard the tankers and the English forces finally giving up their pursuit a island is sighted. Strangely enough the island isn't marked on any maps but that dosen't seem tot bother the ships occupants as they put down on a beach and disembark. '

Several weeks later and with the area around the ships explored the crew take it as their own and under the guidance of the political party leader Alex Henderson they start a new life.

Below are the pictures we have of the surronding area. These were taken by early exploration crews sent ahead of the big ships as they were deciding wether to dock or not.

Firstly we have the area where we landed:

Coastline.png

Then as we moved inland we came across this mountian which we named Mount Condor after the birds seen flying around it:

MountCondor.png

Moving to moving back south past the landing site we came across the rest of the range that Mount Condor belongs to. The Derling Mountian Range:

Moving around the mountian range we came across this beautiful lagoon now named Goodfrey Lagoon and these pictures show it in its setting and close up:

Lastly we found out how close we had been to dangerous waters as dictated by Ferrline cliffs:

Well thats all for now hope to get back to you soon with what we've actually done since landing.

OOC: Well there you have my first attempt at landscaping with a objective behind it. Hope its not too bad.

Glad you felt the urge to create your own CJ. You may want to reformat your pix as .jpg instead of .png so they show up in IE browsers. Welcome! We look forward to more of your city.

    Update 1: A New Hope

Well we left you last time with just a bare and beautiful looking island so now its time we ruined it. Below are some of the latest pictures of the settlement so far. This settlement named New Hope resides on the plains beneath Mount Condor north of where we landed and the reasoning behind it was the large amount of flat land (though as you'll see in a minute we have yet to use any of this flat land). Below will be pictures of the settlement but first I'll fill you in form where we left off on the story.

The settlers happy with their finds begun to build small wooden shacks on the beach where they had landed and laze around. This however nearly resulted in disaster as while they were sleeping peacefully a small English ship landed on the beach a little way up form where they were on a mission to dispatch them. This would have meant the end of the settlers if it wasn't for the fact that a settler had been out hunting late and had come back just in time to warn the rest.

So when the raiders came across what they thought was a docile and undefended settlement they were very suprised to find they walked into a trap. The fighting was bloody and several people were killed on either side but eventually the raiders were taken prisoner and interrogated. Apparently they were as safe as they were going to get now as the raiders had been sent over here on no official mission meaning if they failed they failed and no help was to be sent.. This pleased the leader Alex Henderson but it took his second in command to point out that should someone come looking after all the two massive ships would be a decided give away.

The future was set then. No going back now they tore apart the ships not wasting a single piece and slowly moved the whole lot inland to establish a proper colony. And this is where these pictures come in.

This was the site chosen for the settlement and the reason was clear. The ships propellors provided a great design base for wind turbines and with a power source sorted out the hill was a perfect place to start the settlement. As you can see below two of these were constructed and also a water tank designed to capture and hold rainwater and cleverly feed it around the settlement via pipes salvaged form the ships.

The other major resource needed was food. This was easily taken care of as game was abundant and the lower slopes were perfect for farms of which New Hope has four major ones at this time. One for wheat another for corn another for rice and one for cocoa.

The rest of the houses on the settlement consist of anything and everything including a few that are just decorated shipment containers still the settlers seem happy and with many metal smelting plants around jobs are never lacking.

The settlement grew very quickly over a few years and eventually our building skills were truely tested when we constructed the goverment building and meeting plaza. Both very basic but a nice addition to the settlement.

And finally I leave you with a Overview of the settlement.

Hope you enjoyed this small update and join me next time for more news.

Very creative storyline and cool terraforming. The idea with the wind- turbines built with the propellers is very good!

    Lokking forward to more,

    Update 2: Housing Problems

Well I'm back with more news from New Hope. Housing problems arouse a during this year as the population expanded and the containers form the ships being used started to deteriorate and run out. The council met to discuss what they were to do to alleviate this problem and a simple solution was devised.

This solution may seem rather obvious but it took the council a while to come up with it and its logging and brick making. I know obvious. Anyway it wasn't long before two sites were set up to accomodate these new trades and with plenty of lush forest around and clay for the bricks in abundance the industry produced the goods fast. The party however are making sure their green ways are kept up with as this was the reason for the leaving England in the first place. The country was becoming increasingly dirty and a number of people were unhappy and left with this party. Keen to not let it happen here they are being careful with the environment.

(shots of the two sites. Lumber yards are the big buildings the brick kilns are the smaller ones)

    LumberYard2.jpg

    LumberYard1.jpg

These new resources of course led to redevelopment around the settlement and it wasn't long before sites like this were seen all over the place.

    Redevelopment.jpg

These sites then led to these. The first terraced housing on the island. With this terracing the population could fit into a much smaller space and so not impact on the island so much as they expanded. Therefore keeping with their environmental ways.

    NewhouseDesign.jpg

Also with the addition of new building materials a second governmental building was built to deal with the ever increasing populations problems and provide basic education and healthcare. This building can be seen to the right of the old one. NewGovernmentalAddition.jpg

Right before I go I'll explain the power cables for those of you who were curious. These were rather easy actually throughout the ships there were plenty of cables for carrying electricity around them and these hung form girders that lined the ships hulls provided perfect although crude power lines for us.

Right thats it for now join me next time for more updates.

    Replies

Ubi79: Thanks and I plan on keeping it going.

lucky7: Thanks and I'm glad you liked my way of getting around things like the power source and such. I just feel sorry for the ships lol.

Kiwi n Grapes: Thanks and yer dirts much nicer than tarmac and with a almost complete lack of veichles theres not really that much need for tarmac. Also see above for the powerlines solution.

bbfan02: Thanks and glad you like the storyline I enjoyed coming up with it.

jacqulina: Thanks glad you liked the story. Thanks for the encouragment and yer I will be taking my times for a while now as with real life and trying to keep a park thread about Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 running as well the next update may be a bit longer than this one in coming.

    Cheers
