Yes, seahawk is back in BAT.

Well I've kinda already started my first project.

Sprint Center, Kansas City, USA

SprintCenter.jpg

There is still alot to to.. like a small curve on the outside and modeling the inside and roof.

I'm not sure if I like the glass or not... I'll have to mess around with it...

Sprint_Center_LR.jpg

A render of the real thing.

Check back for more updates!

And thanks to scipio and patriots for helping me with this!

good to see you got it. If you want to make the glass whiter like in that render, just change the reflection color.

Ok well I have a bit of an update. I started with the entrance and thanks to patroits who helped me out with the very difficult curve in the building. 3.gif I still have the roof , some details inside to do and a building connected to the entrance on the other side... check back for more updates! 4.gif

Looking good, I look forward to your progress and this building is perhaps KC's ticket to NBA or NHL team!

The proportions of the new part are pretty off.  Also, the tiles are not accurate, though it's very good that you'll be doing the tiles.  For such a minimal structure, textures, materials, and accurate proportions are especially important.

Also, it's better to show SC4 previews (check out the BAT Mega FAQ for how).  These perspectives aren't particularly relevant to what will be in the game, which is all that really matters when it comes down to it.

Well I've stared on the KCP&L Building and I think it's coming out nicely but I think its a bit too tall...

    KCPLBuilding3-1.jpg

I still have to add the top spire and tons of detail work...

Are you using the measuring tool in google earth? it looks like some of the proportions may be off. good start.

Find a photo of the building (or any building, for the sake of practice) from straight on (maybe from a roof, or low flying helicopter or something), print out a few copies of the photo, and then take a marker. With the marker, trace over the rectangle of each of the setbacks. Then take a ruler, or a piece of string, see how wide the rectangle you traced is, and then see how tall it is. Use the ruler to compare how wide it is to how tall it is. In your head you might think something like, "it is twice as tall as it is wide" or "it's about 1.5 times taller than it is wide". You don't need to use exact measurements, just use your thumb and eyeball.

The point is that you're analyzing the proportions. The really awesome BATs you see by Odainsaker and SimFox aren't good because they are detailed (if you look at them, they have less modeling in them then worse BATs), they are awesome because they pay attention to the proportions of all of the different features of the buildings.

But keep in mind that the SC4 camera will visually squash your building, so don't judge the proportions of your own BAT by what you see in the viewports, judge it by a preview render.

I've made some progress on the KCP&L Building. I've scaled it down a bit and it looks a bit better and fixed the setbacks.

I've added windows too but I'm not that fond of them...

very interesting! 2.gif How about turning up the anti aliasing filter (in the renderer tab in the rendering options, the lanczos filter seems to be the best, and I usually work with a maximum sample of 16 on previews) and a zoom five to get a feeling for its size?

Hey great start. Just a quick warning, watch your object count. with those details it may get very high (where its tougher to render). Easy way to counter this is to attach objects of the same material or texture when possible.

It doesn't look like he has very many objects. But yeah, Patriots is right.

But my suggestion would be to show SC4 angled and properly scaled images.

It can also be good to color objects sort of like how they would be in the end. Windows would be a blueish color, the stone would still be grey, the window frames could be dark grey, roofs could be dark grey. For BATing, one of the biggest issues is legibility (being able to read what is what). In the end, a lot of the legibility/clarity will come from texturing, and for now approximate colors are fine. For example, right now, it's really hard to tell what's going on with those windows. But I don't know if that would be fixed with texturing later on. If not it would be a modeling problem which would need to be taken care of now.
