RED ALERT III

Not to mention the Iwo Jima memorial in the first Soviet mission... which means if the US did have a war with Japan then they would have at least won it. But a War between the US and Japan would explain why there was minimal US involvement during Red Alert 1(there was no US faction in the RA1 skirmishes)... all Einstien did was remove Hitler which still leaves Emperor Showa (Hirohito) and Imperial Japan in the picture.

Korea was split into American and Soviet held territories after WW2... since WW2 never technically happened though you would expect the country to still be unified, but, if the Japanese had taken the country over and then had been beaten back by the US in a situation like WW2, Korea would have been free'd. The North had very strong Communist supporters back then (maybe not so much now since Jung Il screwed things up severely) so the Korea War could have happened anyway without the Soviet occupation, leading to a split and formation of seperate countries... and hence why we have South Korea in RA2 (who no doubt would stil be fighting the Soviet supporting North).

As for the Japanese Empire still being around after the US beat them, well, the US go back in time (supposedly to stop the rise of Stalin and the whole rise of the Reds thing) and screw up even more... the Soviets are still as strong as ever and Imperial Japan was never defeated... but how is that? Even without Stalin the Soviet Union would STILL exist, they would simply have a new leader (Our peace loving Trotsky?) so the events in RA1and RA2 wouldn't have taken place, Europe, America and the Soviet Union would live in harmony and it would also explain why the Statue of Liberty is still there. But then the Imperial Japanese would still be a problem... maybe since Europe isn't at War the Imperial Japanese felt that they wouldn't have a chance against the US or any other country because the European powers could rally and fight along side them. Japan then becomes increasingly Militaristic and Fascist (but since WW2 never happened, Fascism isn't seen with the malice it is in RL, therefor they can still trade with the world and function like a normal country) , they start to embark on Nazi like Human experimentation, leading to a leap in technological advances and what they're trying to create in RA3. All they really need to do is get rid of any kind of WW2 monument since it never happened.

    edit-

Ah, wait a sec... its not the Americans that go back in time, its the Soviets...

I've already found a Paradox in the discription of the game...

The game takes place in a parallel universe in which the Soviet Union still exists and World War III is ongoing between the Soviets, Allies and a third faction known as the Empire of the Rising Sun.quote>

Surely this would be considered as WWII since the real WWII never took place. Unless the events of RA1 and RA2 happened, but then this would be World War 4!

Crap... i'll just let EA figure it out...

Oh, and another bit of news...

FRANKIE K MAY BE DOING THE MUSIC!!!

Chris - Command and Conquer Red Alert 3 has just been announced and I have already seen numerous fans clamouring for you to do the soundtrack, can you comment on this?

Frank - The flood gates opened up on my fan mail right after that announcement.

Regarding RA3, I’ve heard about it just as you have, so I’ve not been contacted. Ultimately EA would have to ask Petroglyph to use me on it, and then it would be up to Petroglyph to allow it. If those things align, you better believe I would score that game, no question! quote>

    6.gif

I also found a bunch of other Info on the Strategy Informer Site -

    - Every unit has secondary functions. The allied tank for instance is able to concentrate radar beams to be used as a scouting unit.

    - Altough not visible on the screens, there's going to be massive damaging in RA3, with weapons carving colossal craters into the ground.

    - Most structures are placeable on water for extra cost.

    - Ships can only leave shore on sand, so its crucial to defend these areas.

    - The article writer claims that the impressive graphics don't shine through the screens. In his opinion, graphics are much better compared to CnC3, and he's especially flabbergasted by the animations.

    - The Russians have a submarine called the 'Akula' which isn't simply deadly against ships, but is able to train divers as well.

    - The Bullfrog transport ship doesn't have to set shore, its able to 'shoot' out the units it's carrying

    - The Japanese Seawing bomber is able to transform into a submarine simply by falling into the water.

    - Sea battles will be crucial in this game.

    - The Japanese enroll a water-affin tank called 'Tsunami', which is both heavily armoured and powerful, and slower on land than in water.

    - The campaign can be co-operatively played with a friend from start to finish. If there's no one to play it with, you can choose between an array of AI allies to fight the war.

    - StarCraft2's lead designer worked on RA3 before he went to Blizzard.

    - Gameplay will be much slower, an aspect, along with the beta, that the team concluded from TW. The writer confirms this slowdown.

    - Enemy soldiers freeze upon Allied dogs barking.

    - The Mobile V4 is able to swim as well, but its main draw points is the precise and area-effective attack.

    - The Russians submarine, the Stingray Nasad, sports tesla-launchers, and is a rather small, but fast unit.

    - The writer praises the smooth animations, explosion effects and water in general again and again, its crazy!

    - Live-action FMVs are back mixed with CGI and outdoor scenes!

    - The writer holds that RA3 wont be as good as SC2, but damn close, and even better than RA2.

    - No Yuri.

    - Atmosphere is top notch.

    - Expansion pack is already planned.

I've put the link to the full article on my first post

Hmm I wonder if it's possible to still find Red Alert 1 in stores... that was the game that made me discover real time strategy, and war games for that matter. I have since lost the discs though.

The Pacific war would have had to have happened around the same as RA1 to explain the absence of the US, so it would have tied in with RA1 being WW2. Anyway, its still a hypothetical situation to explain the presence of those US war memorials. I doubt EA is smart enough to consider such a thing, even though it would explain the presence of the Arizona and Iwo Jima memorials and also why Japan isn't a Superpower in the first place during RA1 and RA2.

The Soviet Mission near Vladivostok and the fact South Korea is a faction and Japan isn't, is a pretty good indicator that they're not a Superpower. Its taken a major shift in time to get Japan even the slightest mention in the Red Alert series.

    More info, taken from here-

    Story

After the Allied drove the Soviets back to Moscow, and their defeat is nigh, they decide to send back several hitmen in time to kill Einstein, the single person they see responsible for the Allied superiority. Although the act is successful, and Europe seems is in peace (With the second war never happening) in this altered timeline, a third party comes into play with the Empire of the rising sun (Japan), which gives birth to plans of world domination they, given their technological advancements, are set to realize and achieve, throwing you into this ménage á trois.

    Campaign

-Can be played co- operatively either with a friend via Multiplayer, or with the aid of an AI ally. The main goal of the AI players is to capture and defend the most significant points of a given map, and you can use their structures for producing units. You cannot control the units of your team-mate however, for the developers deemed it very chaotic after a test run.

Needless to say that you see the map-revealing progress of your ally. Both points count for AI-driven or human Co-op.

-For each side (Allied, Soviets, Empire of the rising sun) there are three commanders to choose from before every mission, each with at least three special abilities. The one they showed the magazine was an allied commander from whom you could ask for an air strike in pre-set periods of time. This commander is played by Peter Weller (aka RoboCop)

-While Yuri doesn’t play a role in the main game, the game’s writer mentioned the possibility of his return in an already planned expansion pack

    Maps

-Altough not visible on the screens, there’s going to be massive damaging in RA3, with weapons carving colossal craters into the ground

-Amphibious ships/tanks can only “land”/leave shore on sandy beaches, so its crucial to capture and defend these areas

-Since the maps have to provide enough room for at least three participants, they’re naturally much bigger than they were in Tiberium Wars

    Gameplay

-Slower pace to prevent rushing and base crawling

-Most buildings can be placed on water for extra cost (Confirmed: Power plant, construction yard, airfield, war factory)

-Most units have a secondary function

-Economy remains unchanged (Two resources: Ore and power)

-Naval combat is crucial in the game, with most units being amphibious

-All units have their place in the combat chain. For example, air units are preferable against well defended positions

    Demo level

The mission involved a cloaking allied tank with which aid you had to get into the city centre unseen, where all of a sudden the city’s stadium opened and launched a nuclear missile, while the Soviet dictator appeared in the edge of the screen and raved on about his plans of world domination with a broad smile on his face. Later on it was revealed that not one, but three such rockets were launched, and the objectives were to destroy the silos and stop the missiles. For the already launched one, the writer used Robocop’s special ability to call an airstrike, which destroyed one of the stadiums as well. The other two posed an increased difficulty, given the well-defended bases of the Soviets. He chose to capture an enemy conyard to set up a base in the water and escape the massive defence, and after setting up a defensive perimeter at the shore, he produced aircraft, infantry and bullfrogs, and finished off one stadium with bombers launched from the airfield placed in water. He couldn’t apply this strategy to the other stadium however,<

I played SC before, to be honest, i'm not a massive fan of Sci Fi games... Sins of a Solar empire is supposed to be a good game but I can't see myself enjoying it because its too Sci Fi.

Oh, and here's more info -

    - Uses the brand new RNA Engine, a step up from SAGE

    - No Prism Tech. for the Allies, but Chrono returns

    - Almost every unit will have secondary abilities. The Conscripts can throw Molotov Cocktails, for instance.

    - Campaign can be played alone as well

    - Soviet Dogs will be replaced by Polar Bears.

    - Rather than free-form building, buildings will be placed on a grid, to insure there are no pathfinding problems

    - Each of the 3 campaigns will have about 8-10 missions.

    - Will feature and UPDATED version of the Hellmarch

And, some PC Gamer article pictures (not scans) from the RA3 forum. Has one or two nice screenshots (Page 3 for Kirovs) -

Awww, no prism tech. I still want to try the game out though. I sure hope Frank Klepacki would be allowed to do his thing.

Ooh! I like the mirage tank's other ability to hide units within its energy bubble (I read it off the magazine pictures). Reminds me of the mobile gap generator. My brother sent 6 of those generator things toward his enemy (human) and only one of them contained an attack force. By the time his opponent found the real deal, critical base structures had already been taken out.

By the way, thanks for at least trying to answer my questions, El Burro.

Theres already a Soundtrack by the sounds of things and EA aren't going to go out of their depth and ask him to do a few extra tracks... which is a shame because it would have made the game feel a little more complete.

Also, about the Prism stuff : Because Prism Tech was invented by Einstien during RA2 , it's dissapeared from the game because the Soviets kill Einstien before RA2, hence why theres a Chronosphere but no Prism. Also, i'm not sure if theres going to be a Weather Control device.

Theres been alot of talk about that little discrepency on the official forums... I was hoping they would make both dogs and armoured bears trainable, but obviously, armoured bears would have vastly improved HP and killing power. Be cool if they could disable vehicles by ripping out the electric's.

The Soviets have jets? Well, they did have the MiG in RA1... Anyway, that's nice to know.

Hmmm... Those heavy lifter aircraft things in the second link seem to have their design based on the real-life C-5 Galaxy (just a personal observation). Interesting.

Danggit EA! Pictures of the Empire of the Rising Sun anytime soon... please?... Pretty please?

A new video has been released showcasing the new faction:  The Empire of The Rising Sun.

    High-definition:

I am still at a crossroads with this game.  It looks just a little too crazy compared to RA I and II.  If not this, Starcraft II will be the next real-time strategy game I buy.

    Best,
