Yes you can.

When importing a region from a bmp you can influence the size of the region by using a map.bmp (or other sources of region maps) and a config.bmp which have a defined size.

Default is 1025x1025 pixel map.bmp and a 16x16 pixel config.bmp

If, for example, you use a 2049x2049 pixel size map.bmp you need a 32x32 pixel size config.bmp. With this you can create a region with up to 8x8 large city maps in one region.

There are of course other possible map sizes.

This is a quite good help text about the size of the map.bmp. The according config.bmp just needs to have one pixel for each kilometer.

Would it still work if there are already cities in the region?

    I didn't try, but i don't think so.

In general if you import a region map into an existing region, the old region and its cities are deleted.

But you can create a new region with a bigger size and afterwards you can import the cities from your old region.

You can add to a region by expanding the config.bmp map. You can only add to the right and bottom (I think.. its documented somewhere) You can then modify the city tiles as you like.. with care.. (ie import/export etc) .. just a word to the wise.. backup first

I don't think so, beside my main city is taking up about 1/3 of the 4x km and whenever I play the city; the game is super slow.

Also do I have to use photoshop because I don't know how to use it? The free trial photoshop is going to expire soon...

Like SC4Boy said, a region can be enlarged by adding to the right and bottom (ONLY) the sizes of your expansion on the config.bmp file in your MyDocuments/SC4/Regions/this region folder. Always back up your original files when you handle things like this. config.bmp files can be changed with any paint program. Make sure that you respect the sizes of your pixels and the colours. Blue is Large/Green is medium and red is small citytiles.

You cannot change the size of an existing built city!!!!!!!!

    Hope that helps.

I've been reading this thread and was wondering if you can create a region with all large city tiles?

The city size is determined by the pixel colors in the config.bmp file

Large city = 4x4 pixels blue

Medium city = 2x2 pixels green

Small city = 1x1 pixels red

So an all blue config.bmp file would create all large cities.

    Hello Hahayoudied,

A side note to the answers above - the game usually won't delete a city (unless you specifically tell it to) - rather it bumps/bounces/moves them into the ...\Regions\Downloads folder. And the import function only shows you cities of the proper size for where you are trying to import to.

For Sim City 4 - the largest CITY size is 256 tiles x 256 tiles; medium is 128 tiles x 128 tiles; and small is 64 x 64.

This is controlled by the config.bmp - if you want a region where all the cities are the same size - only use one color in your config.bmp (please see above posts for which color gives you the desired size of city).

Thanks a lot! I read that too, just didn't soak in. I always wanted to to see what I could do with an all large region.
