I wonder if we can have a modd of a functioning stack interchange ploppable!!  Kind of like the cloverleaf ploppable but a stack in its place.  I think this is possible, right?  Can any modd squad member give a go at this?  I'm not a computer guy what so ever, but If someone can build a freight rail bridge, I can see this as possibility.  Am I wrong?

There's one US state that doesn't have any interstates- Alaska. Alaska actually doesn't have any limited access highways at all, but because of the great distances betweeen places, they don't need them. Also, It's impossible to drive to Juneau from esewhere in North America. There are roads there, but they only go through the city and the immediate area. They don't connect to the rest of the grid. This is mostly because the city has water on one side and mountains on the other three. Nobody's ever bothered or found a need for a road going there....

    24.gifJust some interesting info....24.gif

    ----------------

Actually Alaska does have 4 interstates but those are not constructed according to interstate standards meaning that they are not limited access highways. They are interstates however because they are federally funded.

I agree that it would be great to have some stacked interchanges like the High-Five in SC4. It is built up instead of out because the area around it is already used up. I rarely use the clover leaf in SC4 (I use the Tee instead) because it takes up too much land. You can only use them in more rural areas of your map. If they are used in a downtown area, you are left with lots of wasted space.

What about the interstates that connect cities (rather than multi lane concrete jungles) that have lush trees, a grassy medium, 2 lanes on either side, shoulders, etc ...

This isnt the best picture, but an example none the less of 485 loop in Charlotte, NC:

Most Maps Mark them as state routes.

And I don't count the Alsaka highways a sinterstates because they don't meet the standards.

Those diamond intersections aren't a good idea IMHO. The more complex the road is, the more confusion there is. The more confusion, the more mistakes. The more mistakes, the more accidents. Try getting somewhere where almost every road is one way and you'll know what I mean.

Good concept, but I'd go out of my way to avoid it when driving.

Aww. I just love freeways. They are so cool. I just hope they have more than a clover-leaf and on, off-ramps.

    Standby.

How can we forget those?  Yes, we have surface highways, but they don't have the grass medians like most interstates actually have.

I think I have a better picture.  This might look familiar to Yellowlab.  I-77 near Wytheville, VA.

I bet!  It would be fun, as I'm sure you wouldn't get lost in it or anything.  I would assume that it would have the same U-drive it functions as the cloverleaf and you would just have to press on go to get across it. Woopee!!

Yes Massachussets does have a right on red after a complete stop law I know this only too well as the only traffic ticket I ever received  was for breaking that that law with my own  artistic interpretation  of what complete stop means.

The High Five reminds me of an interchange in East LA. I've only been through it a couple times, because it's a while away from where I am, and the traffic on it is ALWAYS bad. Here's a pic:

The East LA interchange basically connects all the major freeways in California.

I pass through the I-105 to I-110 interchange every Sunday to get to church. That intersection is right next to Imperial Hwy(It's in the ghetto<ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/images/smilies/5.gif>). If you couldn't see, one freeway had a light rail going through it. That is the Metro Rail Green Line.

I don't believe someone here mentioned express lanes and collectors (local) lanes. I see someone had shown pictures of Highway 401 and 404 and a few others, but these are the type of freeways I would like to see in Sim City 5

    401traffic1986.jpegHwy401Rougemt2002.jpeg

It is possible using glitches to build something like that but I want something that can connect it together without converting to avenues. Anyways, about the guy who posted the thing about the interchanges in Ontario, you missed what i think is a good one.

    hwy400-8_sm.jpg
    Highway 407 & Highway 400

This is a four level stack but done pretty good, the 2 is Highway 407 and 3 is Highway 400. 4 is the Highway 400 ramps going on to Highway 407 and 1 being underneath are the ramps from Highway 407 to Highway 400.

Im pretty sure that the 'No Turn On Red (Light)' is probably used nationally, otherwise we'd have a lot of lawbreakers! (turners on redders that is) 2.gif ----------------

Here in VA you call turn right on red at every intersection unless there is a sign posted saying otherwise. I had always thought most other states did the same. Maybe it is a Southeast/Mid-Atlantic thing.

I hope you have ten years' time on your hands ...

I think the highways now are fine, but if your highways are becoming congested (I doubt it, but I suppose it's possible), then this kind of thing would indeed be somewhat useful, especially a bus lane.  That could make ppl wanna take the bus, as it's faster or whatever.  I suppose if you're going to make a new highway, go all out and make it have light rail in the middle, with stations when you cross a road underneath/above.

Hmm, wokisan, I don't think it's limited to the coast; here in Denver it's the same way as it is in VA.

Santonel, although I am proabably obsessed as you are with building a C/D highway, it is designable in Sim City 4 using a glitch but still, you can't transfer from the two sets of lanes unless you do something weird with the program, the topic called Multi-Highway Fun is a page of people's creations building highways with two sets of lanes. And I do agree with you so much about having control of each lane, that is all I really want to do now. Anyways, I know of only three other places with C/D systems:

Detroit on I-96, it has a decent one reaching 14 lanes at one point being in the formation of (4/3/3/4) It runs on the short distance of 10km (6 miles)

Chicago also reaches this point at I-90/I-94 it is also a 14 lane highway being in the formation of (3/4/4/3) surprisingly only running on for 8km (5 miles)

There is one on I-271 I believe around Cleveland it is in the formation of (3/2/2/3) it runs a for a little bit longer 22.3km (14 miles)

However does anyone know if there is one longer than the one in my place of Toronto and if more exist, because the one here at one point thus after that being the worst bottleneck in the world I believe has 18 lanes in (4/5/5/4), if you are going east, the collectors lanes bring you to Highway 427 making the collectors lanes end for a short bit and a (3/3/3/3) starts again. That section is probably the most jammed up section in the world. And this C/D has a long distance in it, it runs on for 60km (37 miles) Now are there any more cities with this formation because I am wondering for curiosty.
