The fourth and the fifth picture is actually a fake tree, you can find them in Disney land or world ( I can't remember which one).

The tree was actually hit many times since the invention of the automobile. It was most likely purposely felled.

It was probably on purpose, but like the person in the post directly above yours said, it was a landmark, and one was required to drive by the tree to know where they are and where they are going.
