A 'Clerk of red tape' probably refers to a bureaucrat.

Yes, you're probably right, Korot.

Larks, red tape is what you call general crap you have to deal with in order to do things properly and legally. Let's say for example you want to open a restaurant. You better get a liquor license or you won't be turning much of a profit. (If it is a sit down dinner type of place that is... or you could just make it a byob, byow type of place, but that can annoy people, and is usually only found in counties or towns that forbid the sale of alcohol, but don't forbid the consumption of alcohol.) In order to acquire a liquor license, you will likely have to "cut through some red tape." ie: applying for one, paying for one, and waiting for one. It has to do with government bullcrap.

Larks, it does for you, for the next person, there will probably be a few posts difference. Nevertheless, somewhere around 5120 would be a good guiding point.

Actually, the first spelling was the New Zealand version, which was clearly incorrect.

The current spelling is the Canadian version, which is clearly as it should be.

Maybe that ranking is left over from the April Fo...Cheap Trick day fun. If the user hasn't posted since then, I don't think his post rank would have changed back.

*Waits for Duke to confirm*

Borg and Klingon were both "AF2010" ranks, yes. If you see anyone with a rank that's a species from Star Trek or Stargate, it means they last posted April 1, 2010.

Of course, it could also be what I'm now going to dub the "Sticky Rank Bug" (SRB). Note that Barbarossa is still a Hometown Hero despite that rank having been retired and despite still being active. Similarly, I suspect Korot should not normally still be an Urban Hiker. It would seem that sometimes someone's rank may continually fail to change for one reason or other. I don't see cause for admin play in either of these cases, so I'm assuming there's a bug out there.

Does anybody actually know? I mean, surely Dirk would know.

Edit:

How about as I go through the ranks, I make a note of them because I still remember the ones I've been through.

1.Freshman 2.Sophomore 3.Area 4.Junior 5.Senior 6.Backpacker 7.

More coming as I get higher.

He probably does, but I don't think he's going to tell us any time soon. It's much more fun to find out yourself, isn't it?

I wouldn't be so quick to trust your instincts. The post count label system is one of ST's mysteries; what you think you know could be very wrong. 2.gif

Here is what we do publicly know, though.  Periodically, the individual(s) with the clearance to modify the post count label system make modifications; labels get added or removed, post ranks are changes so certain labels are achieved sooner or later, labels get shuffled so you don't achieve them in the same order as someone else, some members get their labels frozen temporarily or permanently, special event labels are added or removed, etc.

In short, once people start to figure out the order of the labels and when they are achieved, the system is changed to render that information useless.

Here's an example: according to Duke's list on page 15, I should have gone Reservist at 850th post, but I've made 895 posts and I'm still a City Slicker...

EDIT: shifted to Reservist with 913 posts.

Well, I can't exactly go and check what the numbers are, now can I? I can figure somewhat based on who's where, but there's considerable guesswork involved. Especially after everything below 3000 or so got revamped. Very few truly "original" ranks remain used now.

666 is "Mwa ha ha" for obvious reasons.

"Dirk Made This" turns up occasionally.

They're both one-post-only labels.

To search for the ideal city today is useless. For all cities are different. Each one has its own spirit, its own problems, and its own pattern of life. As long as the city lives, these aspects continue to change. Thus to look for the ideal city is not only a waste of time but may be seriously detrimental. In fact, the concept is obsolete; there is no such thing.

Is there a special reason its associated with 1,013 or 1,014?

Well, standard atmospheric pressure is about 101.3 kPa, or 1013 hPa, but I doubt that's it.

When did the original ST start?
