The Hobbit Movie

This is from a story on the-hobbit-movie.com:

It looks like common sense has prevailed and Peter Jackson will be announced the director of The Hobbit movie within a few days.

Also expect it to be announced that The Hobbit will be released as 2 movies, one in 2010 and the second part in 2011. I’ve already reported this info some time a go but it looks like finally being made official any time soon.

What is new information is that
(a site dedicated to the art of converting 2D movies into 3D) is reporting that The Hobbit movie is to be shot in 3D as well as 2D and will be re-released in 2012 in 3D AFTER the Lord Of The Rings trilogy has been converted to 3D and done the rounds again.

This makes financial sense as New Line will want to cash in on the massive demand for all things Middle Earth following the release of The Hobbit movie.

I've always been a big fan of Tolkien (even before the movies were ever announced) and am really excited about this!  I think 2 movies makes sense.  This way they won't have an excuse to leave anything out.

The movies would have been made sooner, however, Peter Jackson felt he was getting stiffed by New Line on his salary for the 3 big hits (LOTR trilogy) he had made for them.  They were the 2nd, 8th, &15th highest grossing movies of all time making a total of almost $3 billion at the worldwide box office.

It's suppose to be officially announced any day now.  Now it's only a 3 year wait to actually see the 1st movie.

We only need enjoy one day at a time.

We've all been waiting for this movie. Good to see it finally coming to bear.

I just saw the trailer for Narnia: Prince Caspian, another one I can't wait for. It's darker and more violent than the 1st movie.

Let no one yield, we're on the field where deeds eclipse the sun; where the brave are told on a thread of gold, the tapestry is spun. As they speak of dreams, their armor gleams, this calm before the storm... Where all can see their destiny, the bishop takes the pawn.

Wow, I will definetely go see those movies. 2010 and 2011 are a LONG way away though. The actual Lord of the Rings movies took many years to create.

I hope 3d isnt going to be the trend now. there are realy limited good seats to one of those things.

other wise your eyes try to follow things too fast. had to sit way down in front which i hate to do even at normal movies but for these ws even worse realy made me

nauseous watching after a while.

And yes yopu do have to were the glasses the give your other wise everything is out of focus. and it frankly uncomfortable to wear regular glases under them but

if you have to use them as well.

I hope it's Peter Jackson, but don't hitch your horse to that trailer yet. Unless he's already been announced as the director. Has he been announced?

He got into a huge, well-publicized fight with New Line Cinema over royalties (I think) on LotR. They might dump him. It'd be a mistake though. Doesn't matter what you think of PJ. He'll make you money if a Tolkien film is involved.

Can't wait to see it though. Ian McKellen has already stated that he wants to be Gandalf again. His eyes are so dreamy... *sigh*

I've never read the LOTR trilogy and the films were very entertaining however I have read the Hobbit many many many times (my Dad used to read it to me when I was a wee lad!) and if this film ruins the book I will be very angry lol. That said I would hope the same dedication to the LOTR books would be given to the Hobbit. About the whole 3D prospect... well I dunno about that one. I don't really like 3D films but I'd be prepared to give it a go I guess. Ian McKellan would have to be Gandalf though in my opinion. He's perfect for the role!

Sounds exciting if everything pans out as you reported. I did read The Hobbit and LOTR when I was a kiddo in the '70's and Peter Jackson's films lived up to my expectations. I'd be all for two films too. I loved anticipating the Return of the King after The Two Towers.

BTW, welcome back Hummer! I hope everything is going well in the Army!

Well, if The Hobbit will be make into two films, then LOTR should have been six or nine.  I am not sure that justice can be done to The Hobbit, even by Peter Jackson.  Like all Tolkien, there is a tremendous amount of detail to be pruned and condensed.

So, speaking ex cathedra from my navel here is my bold prediction of how things will go:

Part 1 will run from the Hobbiton sequence with Gandalf and the dwarves up to the meeting with Deagol in Moria and the escape.

Part 2 will run from the escape from Moria to the battle after the death of Smaug and the return to Hobbiton.

I like 3D movies, but they have there place and The Hobbit isn't it.

Peter Jackson hasn't officially been announced, but apparently 2 100% reliable sources have come forward saying that Jackson and New Line have finally reached an agreement.  I think New Line's movie rights end sometime in 2010/2011, so the pressure is on to get the movie made.

Here is another article posted on the-hobbit-movie.net about Tim Tolkien:

The nephew of JRR Tolkien has spoken of his wish to see Peter Jackson at the helm of The Hobbit movie.

“It would be complete madness for Peter Jackson not to be involved” Tim Tolkien told The Independent.

The British newspaper also reported that Robert Shaye (NewLine bos and Lord Of The Rings producer) is said to be close to brokering a ceasefire with the aim of bringing Peter Jackson back on board. They quote Tim Tolkien as saying “This would be great news.”

Not to mention that many of the LOTR actors said they will only act in the movie if Peter Jackson is director.

Ian McKellen is officially quoted as saying he will play as Gandalf again

One more point is that monocular persons like me find no use for 3D.
