I would like to download a map but it says I need SC4 Terraformer. When I go to Terraformer it says it's for WinXP only. I'm running SC4 Deluxe on Windows Vista, will the Terraformer work on Vista?

Thanks!1.gif

I can't answer your question directly because I don't have Vista. I can offer this indirectly though: if the map you are trying to download is a .sc4m file, SC4Terraformer is not your ONLY option for downloading an opening. You can also open it with SC4Mapper. So if you tried Terraformer and it did not work, I would try SC4Mapper too before I gave up. Sorry I couldnt answer your question, but maybe this will help??

Are you using a specific workaround?  Because I'm using Vista and I cant get it to work at all.  Are you using the latest version of SC4T?

EDIT: SC4T now works.  But I had to download the DX9 dlls and install them in order to get it to work.

Well, I'm using Vista too but can't get SC4 Terraformer to work. I've just installed the DX9 files but it's still not working. After the "choose a directory" dialog nothing happens. Need help 15.gif (SC4Mapper doesn't work on Vista either)

Hello, BNW.

Read through the first and last article in the OmniMaps -- Mapping and Terraforming Information section of the Omnibus.  You'll find information in the articles on installing SC4Terraformer as well as how to install a map created with the application.

It is VERY IMPORTANT that you read through the entire ReadMe file to ensure you have all the necessary files.

You might also read through the later pages of the SC4Terraformer Support thread.

Regards,

Vandy

I've tried to installing it around 3 times now, and it still won't run! I don't know what to do! There is this map I really want to download and I cant get the terraformer to run. I install it, but that .exe thing you have to click on to open it is a word document and it just opens up with nothing on it. What do I do? 15.gif

Hello, braca1.

Hmmm...   I can assure you that the SC4Terraformer.exe file IS NOT a MS Word document.  It is the executable for the application.

When you download the zip file for SC4Terraformer, ensure you unzip it using the "Use Folders" option as it needs the proper sub-folder structure to run.

Also, ensure you have the proper version of DirectX installed (Version 9.0c).  Check out this article in OmniMaps for further information on where to download the files:

Mapping Applications and Mapping Tools

Gary

Since there is already a topic about this program:

" You can change the radius of the cursor and the strength of the tool "

How do I change the radius of the cursor, I can't figure out how. I tried changing the number, but that did not do anything.

Let me see if I can help answer your above question.  (The below information is taken from the Amercan Southwest - Monument Valley, Part One:  Creating A Butte article in the OmniMaps - Mapping and Terraforming Information section of the Simtropolis Omnibus:

Slider Window

The Slider Window selects the Radius of the drawing tool (that is, the size of the rounded or square shape used to create terrain features), the Strength of the drawing tool (that is, how much of an affect a selected tool will have on the terrain) and sets the minimum and maximum heights of the terrain by adjusting the Min Height and Max Height sliders.

04_Slider_Window.jpg

The Radius slider adjusts the size of the drawing tool.  It can be set by clicking on the slider pointer and dragging the pointer to the desired value or, for larger differences, by clicking in the slider groove.  For very precise changes, click and drag the slider pointer to a value near what you want the then use either the Left Arrow or Right Arrow keys to get to the precise value you desire.  Notice the example below where the Radius has been set first to 7 and next to 18.

05_Radius_7_18.jpg

The Strength slider changes the amount of affect a selected tool has on the terrain.  To show this, the following examples use the Zone Tool "Make Hills" with the Radius set to 10, the Min Height set to 0002 and the Max Height set to 6000.  In the far left example, the strength is set to 10.  In the middle example, the strength is set to 12.  In the far right example, the strength is set to 15.  The "Make Hills" tool is selected for 3 seconds in all three examples.

06_Strength_10_12_15.jpg

The Min / Max Height Sliders are used to restrict the minimum height to use when terraforming and the maximum height to use when terraforming.  The values are shown in units of meters.  By restricting the height, a terrain object starts at a specified height and does not go over a specified height.  To show this, the following examples use the Zone Tool "Make Hills with the radius set to 5 and the strength set to 5.  The far left example shows a Min Height of 0280 and a Max Height of 281.  Note that smallest Max height value that can be selected is 1 meter higher than the Min Height value.  The middle example shows a Min Height of 0300 and a Max Height of 0350.  The far right example shows a Min Height value of 500 and a Max Height value of 750.

07_Three_Mesas.jpg

To change the value of the sliders,  click on the slider pointer and drag the pointer to the desired value or, for larger differences, click in the slider groove.  For very precise changes, click and drag the slider pointer to a value near what you want then use either the Left Arrow or Right Arrow keys to get to the precise value you desire.

Hopefully, this information will answer your questions.  Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Good luck with your terraforming!

Regards,

Gary (Vandy)

I cannot find the slider window, it only gives me three windows, none of them is a slider.

I only get:  Main Window, SC4Trraformer toolbar, Overview

I do not get the slider on startup, my version does not have one.

oh oh: It was on the bottom, hidden by my other windows (Internet - Folders).

Hello, JDRCRASH and anyone else interested.

Apparently, the old SC4Terraformer Support thread link is no longer valid.  I don't have a clue as to why.  Below is a link which will now take you to the thread:

Hello, gidget123c.

I would suggest reading the article entitled Downloading, Installing and Running SC4tTerraformer.  It is located in the OmniMaps section of the Simtropolis Omnibus.

I believe it will answer your installation questions.

Regards,

Vandy

Hello and good evening (18:00H in Germany),

SC4 Terraformer doesn't work on my Vista x64 system. I read the readme, i checked all of the dll-files and i installed the directx version linked in the readme. The log:

"

Traceback (most recent call last):

File "SC4Terraformer.py", line 4, in ?

File "zipextimporter.pyo", line 78, in load_module

File "SC4TerraformerApp.pyo", line 3, in ?

File "zipextimporter.pyo", line 91, in load_module

ImportError: MemoryLoadLibrary failed loading tools3D.pyd

"

Anybody an Idea? And Yes, i have unzipped it correct with subfolders... (with winrar)

Hello, dajashew.

I would be quite interested in reading how you got SC4Terraaformer to work.  I got a new computer over Christmas running MS Vista 64-bit.  I have all the necessary files installed but every time I launch the application, I get an error message telling me that DirectX is in use by another application.  I click past the error message and the application closes.

I just haven't had much time to investigate this issue and really need to find a resolution as I have maps in development that I am really looking forward to completing and releasing.

I can install SC4Terraformer on my old Dell laptop but I'd much prefer to use my new computer.

Regards,

Gary (Vandy)

I'm running windows 7, and I haven't had any problems.  Just downloaded, unzipped, and away we go.

First off, make sure there isn't a legitimate problem with DirectX.  If Vista is the problem, you could try running the program in compatibility mode.  To do this, right click on the terraformer.exe, go to propreties, then compatibility, select "run in compatibility mode" and then choose Windows XP.  Hope this helps.

C'mon people! This thing isn't being very friendly! Heck, I had to get an account here just to figure out how to install this thing (SC4 Terraformer) correctly!

Now, I'm a person who has recently switched to playing this game on windows 7, and the dang Terraformer doesn't want to install.

I have the Directx package (the exact one specified in the readme) and it refuses to install. The Program keeps giving me errors, telling me that my goddang directx stuff isn't "loaded" or that "something else may be using it"- This is bulljunk. Really.

All I want to do is install that nice Vvardenfall map I found on here into my game. That's ALL.

Well, it could be right.  If all you're trying to do is install a map, maybe you're better off the old way.

When I try to start SC4 Terraformer, I select the directory, and then nothing happens. The error log says something about division by a float. I remember getting this working before I re-installed Vista on my 64-bit PC.
