ummm actually a lot of American reviews fell flat as well.  I don't think Monte Cristo has the funding for that kind of stuff, thats something the larger corporations do.  I don't think just because the ratings are low they are automatically false.

Its not the change that ruined it for me its the removal of All of the good points in its predecessors, I would truly love the game if they had all the transport and terraforming, regions, well the list goes on and on from SC4 and they included the societal energies. The game just feels like a step backwards when they tried to step to the side.

i hold high hopes on Cities Unlimited, as they are lisening SC4 Followers and they can take advantage from the SCS wreak, as the City Simulation remains with a hole in the market, that only SC4 (a game from 2003) is filling alone.

If we don't buy SCS hopefully the sale will plummet enough to make EA realize what a mistake it was to change simcity so much! But on some good news, yesterday i went on a website showing the prices of SCS and some have dropped their price by $10! And only within two months of it being released! This can only mean that sales are dropping as bad word spreads about SCS and EA is trying to lure anyone they can into buying that sandbox version of Simcity.

If you guys want a real Simcity 5 like i do, send a message to EA that will hit them were it hurts...their wallet, and don't buy this excuse for a game or a Simcity, which will send them a clear message that we don't want them to slaughter Simcity to make it "revolutionary" simcity is already revolutionary, it doesn't need anymore help with that!

AWFUL - what on earth happened to all the transport options? and it looks like a cartoon - i think it would look and play better if it went back to the old style 2D

It sounds ironic,

A french putting down a French company that's making a better game than SImCrapSocieties.

God, I seem to be the only one in this thread that enjoys the game.

it maybe because the previous Sim Cities( of which I have only played 300 World and Edition, and 4, Deluxe edition) always felt...impersonal that I didn't have much control over how the people acted, apart from they kept complaining, etc(that and hey low price hosuing bar never went down EVER) no matter what the bloody hell I did. Societies, i find, is quite fun, as it seems to be my twon.

On the oter hand, it lags quite a bit once the city Starts growing, and rogue sims can be hard to spot. Placing buildings can also feel a bit slow a times.

7/10

EA have killed the Sim City brand with this release and turned it into yet another "The Sims" expansion pack.

Sim City Societies is one of the worst games I have ever had the misfortune of installing on my PC. Suffice to say it was installed for approximately one hour then immediately deleted, never to be seen again.

It is not a city building game, it's more of a theme park construction kit, except instead of fun, the theme park makes you cry.

Everything about this game sucks, no wonder Maxis wanted nothing to do with it. The cheesy cash-in on the present trend for environmentalism, the horrible sims-style interface, the patronising tutorial, the fact that you CANT ZOOM OUT. I mean really, who is actually going to play a game like Sim City without being able to zoom out and admire your handiwork?

I hate everything about this game. The ridiculous graphics are sometimes well defined but other times the textures are smudged and blurry. The models range from quite cool looking to generic and blocky, there's no consistency. The sound is like a mish-mash of random sound effects someone found on an old sound effects CD. The gameplay is bizzare, makes no sense at all and is sometimes too simple and sometimes pointlessly complex. There are not enough words in the world to describe this vapid, brainless, childish, pathetic MESS of a game.

You can't build up a proper city, you can't watch your town evolve, it's way too easy to make money and waste it on ice cream shops, which are apparently only a little smaller than a multi-screen cinema by the way.

I would go on but playing this game has depressed me so much I feel like I need to go and have a bath to wash the stench of it from my body.

0/10 - Utterly terrible

Truly awful in my opinion but clearly intended for a different, much younger, market from most SC4 fans. The name is misleading, Sims maybe, SimCity no. I guess I was expecting SC4, more or less, but with ploppable RCI buildings, which appealed. The reality was therefore a disappointment. I should have read opinions before buying but at least it was heavily discounted.

Cities Unlimited looks to me to be a better contender going forward, we shall see. What is promising is that they seem to be involving people in its development.

1/10, though I can see that younger Sims fans might rate it higher.

I just want to re-iterate that the main focus of this thread is to either post reviews with a reference (Example: IGN's review of SCS) and comment about these reviews.

We all have our own personal opinions about the game, but this really isn't the place to post your own review. You can express what you think about a posted review (my first post) and express if that rating is fair.

Ex. IGN's review showed me the pros and cons to this game. Personally, I don't like this game, I haven't bought it, and I don't think I ever will. That is why I disagree with IGN's rating, I think it should be much lower.

If you find another review, feel free to post it here and it will be added to the list.  Just be sure to provide a link to the review so it can be referenced!

General discussion is always welcome here, but as long as we discuss. Having a whole bunch of individual reviews posted here without reference is not what this thread is intended for and is not considered a discussion. No offense to anyone above me.

    Best,

    -Haljackey

    Hi,

My son gave me SCS for Christmas. At 11 years old, he was very excited about spending 50 USD on a present.

My opinions of the game are mixed. I miss the detail of SC4, and the "if I zone it, will they come?" anticipation. It took me just a few minutes reading the manual to realized that this was not a successor to SC4. This was a completely different game.

THAT is the point to remember. If you are looking for an update to SC4, SCS is NOT what you want.

If on the other hand you are looking for a quick and easy game where you get to build a small city, this might be it for you.

I find SCS' gameplay somewhat voyeuristic, which I personally do not like. I've never played The Sims, but I couldn't help but wonder if SCS wasn't The Sims writ larger. In any event, the ability to click on a citizen to assess its mood reminded me of Tropico. In fact, SCS as a whole reminds me of that game. Tropico did not hold my attention, and SCS has the same problem.

I don't think SCS is a bad game. I, at least, have not had any problems with the game running on my computer, but I have a fairly high-end machine. Playing SCS makes me long for SC4, but in deference to my son's excitement, I play SCS. In a few months, I'll probably drift back to SC4 in a way that doesn't hurt his feelings.

SCS is not a Bad Game; It's just not the game for me.

    Regards,

    Scott Chisholm

Damn, I was thinking of getting this game tomorrow but all these bad reviews seem to have made me think if it would be a good idea to spend £25 for something that could leave me disapointed. Was there anyone who actually loved this game?

I've been a member of Simtropolis for a little while now, but I generlly tend to keep myself to myself and just soak up whats being said, tips ideas etc. However when it comes to SCS I felt compelled to speak. What an abject dissapointment! What is the point of the game? It's a mish mash of concepts, which provide very little entertainment value at all, seeing as the whole time is spent balancing a list of numbers along the bottom of the sreen. You'd be better served building a garden in Viva Pinata for any sort of challange and more realism. I had barely got through the demo before I already hated it. Why would I want to build a "fun" city that is home to 5 spooky barns which release ghosts and cause the endless screams of cretins with silly names.Plop 10 chunks of painted wall and, oh my ! it's the cultural equivilent of the hanging gardens of babylon. Even for

Am I allowed to 'express' myself in terms that apply to this horrific mistake. Not too 'dirty' just really really nasty.

Ok, I'm going out on a limb here but... I like the game... I really do. I found Simcity 4 way to complicated to be relaxing and that is what gaming is all about relaxing and enjoying yourself. The new EP 'Destinations' should add some new fun to the franchise and hopefully will add some of the features you all keep demanding!

waiyeap90: Well thats a very difficult question to answer. City life has been out for quite some time, and SCS is still somewhat new. Its like comparing apples to oranges. Personal preference is the real answer.

I personally haven't played City Life or SCS. I stick with SC4, because I like the concept of this game better than the two. However, I am waiting for CU to come out. Depending on how it is reviewed by both the big reviewers and the ST/SC4 community, I will make a decision of weather to get it or not.
