Basically, information overload for the information age.  We know all this, and what's the point of socking it to us one more time?

That documentary was quite disturbing, it wasn't just the usual history channel stuff about rising tides, it was new and it was serious news.

Did you read the article about Lake Chad? Half of it disappeared! It will be dry in 30 years....

Yeah, that was a really powerful section. I mean, this is a lake that, only a thousand years ago, was bigger than Montana and now it's barely a dot on the map. The endangered animal trade was also something I hadn't heard of before.

It was cool because they showed old, abandoned fishing ships in sand, which was once part of the lake. It was very powerful, indeed.

There are millions upon millions of people living around the lake and now with it almost gone, they are without water and food. The water level is only 5 feet now, so there is a shortage of fish for all the people. It's quite sad.

Yes it is, and they also had a Chinese family on that the woman's husband got cancer because of the polluted drinking water. The woman said she and her daughter have no choice.

    Isn't that sad?

Sitting here feeling sad isn't going to do anything, which unfortunately, is what many people do.

I must have missed something, but Lake Baikal to my knowledge has not been drained, nor does it have any mass agriculture demands for water in the region that would threaten it being drained.  Lake Baikal to my knowledge only has some oil pipelines and some paper industry stuff to threaten it environmentally.  On top of that, it has some 1/5 of the worlds surface freshwater so I do not think its that easy to "drain".  Are you thinking of the Aral Sea perhaps that was used for the cotton industry?

Well, you can see the weather has caused the bad wild fires in California.

Also, the Amazon Rain Forest is getting cut down as we speak.

When you look at the statistics of the deforestation, you can see the scale of the problem at hand. I think it'll be gone totally by 2020.

I really liked that mini-series. I really respect that they are trying to make an impact, but sadly they won't. Everyone will go on with their lives, people will waste, consume, overproduce. The only thing that could break a cycle like this would be a shocking event. The environment around is changing rapidily, we as humans, do not realize this because we compare change to our life spans, which are extremely short compared to shall we say, the life span of Earth.

People are too lazy. They are selfish. Because of the changing of the environment, the person's kids and their kids are going to be in a lot of trouble. People just dont think about anyone else than themselves.

Most people are indeed too lazy to do anything. The majority of us will most likely live in developed nations where we rely on technologies that contribute to climate change, but if possible then you should try and change how you live.

Our family have done just that and yet we haven't become crippled by it. Yes what we do is supported by the local council by means of them having a fully comprehensive recycling system where everything from kitchen waste, garden waste, paper, glass etc etc is taken away and recylced.

We also have all out electricity supplied from renewable sources in Northern Ireland through the EcoEnergy network established and constructed by Northern Ireland Electricity.

We also have a new Lexus Hybrid which isn't perfect but does help toward making a difference. We are still thinking about changing the other cars also.

The fact is people can stick their head in the sand but when the s*** hits the fan for real, as it is in many countries already it will be too late and then they will start moaning about how things were not done in the past to prevent it etc etc etc. If you don't in anyway help to conserve energy or change some parts of your life then you have no-one to blame but yourselves whenever problems start happening.

The saddest part is that those living in the nations that contribute least to climate change will suffer the worst, while we continue to burn gas and oil and spend big on flood defence etc etc, Bangladesh in 100 years may no longer exist just like the Maldives and many other coastal locations.

Well San Francisco as a whole sure is doing something while rest of America just watches wats on the horiozon! We are the greenest city in the nation! My new house will use solar panel for electricity, almost all appliances are energy star, the city has a wonderful recycling and composting system. Within a nation that is just contributing more to global warming, i think our city is doing alright. I wished California just became its own nation, its light years ahead of rest of america. WIth a high speed rail system on the horizon, that will take even more cars off the road! LA needs to clean up its act though. Although i commend on their efforts to put in place an adequate transit system in the near future!

Interesting, bbfan! It has been going on for so long that until man's survival instinct overcomes his greed, things are just going to keep getting worse. Consider that Los Angeles once had flowing rivers that actually had water in them as opposed to dry concrete troughs.

The pollution reminds me of the guy in the '70's who developed film with water from the Calumet River.

I thought Austin was the greenest city. Austin is leading the way in almost everything green, including the most agreesive plan to cutting electricity usage in new home construction.

Actually you are incorrect.. All of Chicago's building that have been built since 2003, and comtinue being built, require "GREE" roof tops. grass, gardens etc... Just recently on the the news Chicago was announced as the model for the Global Green Efforts. Supported by former presedint Clinton.

Yes it is sad, i have read many many of those "It's" sad comments. and also read "There is nothing we can do about" Bologna, It's attitudes like that, are making this a horrible issue turning worse. "It's a sweeping under the carpet" issue, and we have to get rid of our way of thinking like that to save what our future needs to prosper. I only hope we are doing it the right way. 4.gif

I've been saying California needs a High Speed rail line forever!

Just like on the East Coast.

A High speed rail that runs from Boston to Atlanta.

    We need a plague.

As sad and mean as that sounds, it's population control.

Nature has a way of handling these things.
