CIV 4!!!!!!

CIV 4 rules and with each expansion pack it gets better....

Warlords is a pretty good expansion and add much detail and dept to the middle game....

Beyond the Swords is probably the best EP yet...it has everything for Future and Modern times...

it has floods...tsunamis,fire,volcaneos,roits,revolts,civil wars and much more,,,,,

It even adds 17 more civs....

but personally I only see two nations i like with this new EP....

So...if you don't like the CIVs they give you....

Go to Civfanatics!

It is alot like are site...

you got custom sounds/maps and you also have custom civilization to choose and add into the game...new tools and techs...everything you could need!

which is why I go to Civfanatics and they have Austria/Hungary/Poland/Serbia/Croatia/Czech and even Romania Civs for BTS expansion pack or for CIV 4....

I mean...why not go to this site...it doesn't just have Eastern Europe...it has many other nations...

Dutch....Uk nations...such as scottish and Irish...it has many many WW2 Civs...and even a Confederate Civ...

also..alien/invaders CIVs for when the humans get to boring to play with....

CIV 4 really is the best so far!

I got Civ 4 last christmas, but I only played it once, and never did anything...now I just recently started playing again and I'm hooked! It's so addicting to play, and the game has so many variables to play on! And it also has alot of mods! So it'll take around a year before I get bored with it.

Neither one will install, I copied the main game from another computer and got the update to install, but it still didn't run right. When installing, both will stall on one or another of the mp3 files at different points, and then quit the install.

I installed the game on an XP machine with no problems. I check on the Civ4 forums, a couple of posters said it worked on Vista, but gave no details. Many more said they couldn't get it to run on Vista.

If you aren't using the ORIGINAL COPY PROTECTED disks, it isn't going to work... You must install (get updates if you want) and run with the copy-protected disk in the CD drive..

Oh, and you're correct.. Civfanatics site absolutely rocks!!

I have the Home Premium Vista.

SC4Boy, I tried it both ways, with the disk installation, and coping it from another XP machine, then running the update to get the keys into the registry.

This is the error message I get with either of the installs.  It is not always the same mp3 file that is stops on.

if i am correct i believe the cylic redundancy check may have to do with your HDD. either it cannot copy the file to the HDD due to an error with the HDD disc's or platters as they are called, or it cannot read the file to write to the HDD. best geuss tungston.

EDIT: does it stop at this spot always or is it a random spot when installing?

I gets a few files farther with each sucessive try, the same with both.

I doubt I have a hard disk error, I have 4 WD Enterprise drives in RAID10, and Intel Storage Manager which if an error occured would start and immeadiate repair.

The game was installed on an XP machine so the disc's are good.

I don't think the game has been patched for Vista, but some are able to run the game on Vista.

hmm...only other thing i can think of is the version of vista u have. i was told that the vista premium was the most user friendly for gamers, and since this is the version u have, i'm at a loss. i still have yet to find an actual list of games that are compatible with vista. maybe the civ4 forums may help some. sorry i couldn't help you more. for my own curiosity i am gonna look since i own the game myself and plan to get vista within the next few months.

The CRC check simply means that what the computer read from the CD does not check by a "parity check" type function.. this would normally be caused by a read error (possibly due to a bad /damaged CD).. the CRC check is a number at the end of a file or file segment that is computed by a complex "sum" of characters that make up the file and is written at the end of the segment or file.. if it does not match the total that is documented in the file itself, it assumes this mismatch is caused by read error (not a write error as it is performed at the read stage) This method is often used by packer/unpacker packages (and the file mentioned above by you is a "packed" .cab file)

I suppose some data protection techniques may also use this function, but I don't know about that.

Oh, I don't have any expansion packs, but this should have nothing to do with the issue you are talking about.

i've spent the last 10 years trying to figure out which one is more addictive, sim city or civilization. in the end it really depends on your mood, local domination, or world..

but civfanatics is great, as is BTS really kinda completes civ 4 now. like the conquerors did for civ 3.

SC4Boy you said the magic word, "protection", thank you.

I have Windows Live One Care on that computer, and didn't think to turn off the virus/spyware checking. Once that was done both games ripped through the installation.

The simplest things can cause the biggest headaches.

I got the message that there were compatibility issues with the game, I started a game, but didn't play it. It seems to work allright, I will have to play awhile to see.

I had Civ IV since the week it came out... mainly coz PC Gamer said i'd be addicted for life. I was pretty dissapointed to find myself uninstalling it the same week out of sheer boredom...

I got back into it again a few weeks ago, I felt like getting Beyond the Sword, but I just felt once i'd played a few times, I could play it again a million times and it would be the same of monotonous shiz, again, and again... and again... so once again it got uninstalled.

I love strategy games but I dunno why Civ doesn't appeal to me...

If you are asking me, no message for SC4. SC4 went very smooth, I installed the game, then copied the folders from an XP machine so I didn't have to do all the updates, and modifications that I had made.

I have all the tools for SC installed too, SC4Tools, iLives Reader, Lot Editor, gMax and BAT, Region Census, they all are working fine with Vista.

I haven't had any trouble with Vista and SC4, it might even be more stable.

Those are the only two games I have gotten around to installing on Vista.

I'm sure it is just a matter of preference.  Personally, I always liked the game Risk, and I associate this game with it.

Yeah, could be an RTS thing... personally, Superpower2 is alot better than the original Superpower because it found a way to get rid of the Turn Based stuff. I'd like the next CIV to have an option to either enable TBS (for older Civ players) or RTS (for people like me who've come from the world of C&C and Rise of Nations)... obviously, over the internet you need to adhere to whatever rules are on the server, but it would be like joining a game on CS:S... don't like De_Tides? Don't join the server then!... lol

What version of Windows are you using?

Did you disable the antivirus for the download?

Are you using a download manager?

Yes, I turned of the virus/spyware checking, and both games loaded just like normal.  I got the compatability issue notice, but the games started enough for me to save a game.  I didn't play any longer than that, so I will see for sure when I play more.
