Whoa! BTW look up a tutorial on learning lofts. YOu will need to probably turn that sidewalk into a loft - or peices of. Lofts have a certain texture mapping inherit to its process that has the texture "follow" the path. Thereby concrete square look proper on the sidewalk even though it may be turning or curving.

I really really want to see an update on those sea walls! Do you reckon they are going to be released?

    Thanks everyone.

ngeeves:  Not a chance. They're custom sea-walls for a custom terraformed city, if I we're to release them, nobody would be able to use them except me, besides I'm a long way off finishing that one anyway... 2.gif

The only thing I could release that came out of the sea-wall project was the HK Junker Marinas.

Okay, been working on AIG Revisited, 6 Gateway Tower and the Admiralty Center lately.

I think Admiralty will be released soon if it's okay with Scotty who was doing this building but kinda stopped working on it I think? I’ll have to ask him…

Anyway, let's talk textures. Reflections or no reflections, and what do you think is more realistic to the actual buildings, the greener texture shown on Principal or the slightly bluer one on Gome?

I'd say blue and green are both good, although Maxis' tendency towards a peachy hue might go slightly better with the blueish tone. This, however, could only be judged properly by photoshopping the building into an in-game pic, I guess.

Reflections are good, but IMHO these are too defined. I'd prefer a more blurred, vague and general reflection that would look good no matter where you plop the building.

The rooftops aren't finished yet, I suppose? I'm wondering because there is absolutely no roofjunk and those cracks look really exaggerated and overscaled to me.

I would prefer no reflections coz you can't expect the lippo towers to be reflected when you place the GOME next to the sea =D

either colour (blue version or green version) would look good I've seen the real towers and I can't exactly tell... (somehow it depends on the weather, looks blue under the sun, green when cloudy)

And same as wt T Trecks said, the roof is far too rough and still need some details on that right?

I think reflections are fine.. I would (hear I go) prefer to see more of the reflections from game point of view, but those are, to be honest, minor details...Given the tool at Cacatoo's disposal he did remarkable job with making it look glass.

I do have some criticism about the roof tops (texture wise) and the towers themselves (modeling wise) First I would just refer to what T Wreks said. On the Towers My main point would be such an uneven spacing of both vertical and horizontal lattice. I just can't get my mind around why is that so, I mean it is easily avoidable, and quite noticeable... May be you could fix it?= I shouldn't take all that long for that..

Okay, I've decided to go for the slightly bluer texture after looking at some more RL photos. The actual colour of the glass seems to be more toward green, but this can only be seen on overcast days, in an always sunny environment like SC4, I think it's more realistic to have bluer glass reflecting the sky.

You really didn't think I was gonna leave those rooftops blank did you? Not really sure what is on the roof of the base section- I just put in a rooftop garden for now, but if anyone can find a good photo of that section, I can change that.

This is looking good!!! I am still a little - um - anxious about the glass texture used - its pretty awesome , but I think it can be a little genericized. Base look great! You have improved so much.

oh that looks much better now and nicely done with the rooftop junks~ =)

em... just now I've noted that the two flags should be placed in the middle just in front of the glass roof instead of placing it on the right...

based on this photo I've searched on wiki... =P

and perhaps you can add a small antenna like that in the photo on the taller building on the right as well~~~

    oops, some more photos here~

look at the rooftops here, it shows so many buildings rooftop in this pic!!! XD

it looks good. May be just take another look at textures/materials on roof junk... And those trees (taller ones) on the roof of the base better to be removed (IMHO) they are absolutely disproportionate to both structure and themselves...

Unfortunately no good pics of the roofs.41.gif

But no matter nothing interesting is there. The plants and trees should be removed for normal technical stuff.(IMO)

wow, that roof picture is awesome!!! they are so clear!!!!

(suddenly the roof becomes the trickiest part of all =P)

and for the tree thingy, I think it looks better if it was only about 1-2 storey-tall, it looks too unproportionally tall O_O"...

there might be a little garden on the podium but I consider the flora might only be some short bushes but not that tall... lol

you are nearly there! keep up with the good work!!!

Thanks for the photo's guys, awesome work! I'm gonna have to re-model both the lower and upper roofs now though... 21.gif

Here's some work on the night-lights, took me about a week to learn how to do this. Don't worry, I'll make them a little less intense in the final render. Any chance of a close-up photo of the RL building at night? I can make another night-texture and project that onto the building if I know what the real thing looks like.

    1. notice the two towers on the left, a very typical night look, perhaps just some simple office with lights at night... perhaps you can ask SimFox about those night-lighting issues he's really expert in it perhaps he can teach you some skills to make variations on the windows lights to make it looks much more realistic!

    2. the neon lights at the top...

For "GOME" on the left, it is a red-glowing sign with no back-lights

For "Principal" on the right it is shining-white in the background

HONG KONG, you are the man.

Those were exactly the type of pictures I was looking for, I'll get to work right away on the proper night-lighting.

Fusion_lemon, I'd really like to get the GOME sign glowing at night, but as far as I know, that can't be done in Gmax. I'll have to play around with it but for now I don't think it can be done.

And thanks kelistmac, glad you like the night-lighting. Yes- I’m making 6 Gateway Tower. I haven’t made a nice-enough texture yet or even put a nice UVW map on it, but here’s a preview screen-shot anyways.

EDIT:  Messing around with the AIG's night-lights:

You are definitely working in the right direction. IMHO you're overdoing it now by a mile, but that is natural growth process.

One suggestion, if I may, Don't sharper quite so much your textures, particularly those, you use for roof tops, As far as I see it ruins the scale effect, Making building look like a tiny toy.
