The building block approach is how I'd like to see the next yard mod, along with factory spurs.

Trolca, are you making new textures for these?

Edit: Also, could you make some textures for the following?
    • So you can end the yard with the red track; with none of the tracks below.
    • Same for the blue and green.
    • Being able to continue past the bottom track
    • When the track expands from 2-4 make another so that it keeps expanding on both sides (so you can have a large yard on each side.

Here's a seven tile set that can be used for side tracks and spurs.

    Here's Three possible combinations.

Thanks Trolca, I'll try and get these into lots asap.

Edit: You don't need all of those textures, you can mirror them in the Lot Editor, so for example Spur 112 is the same as Spur 102 - just rotate and mirror.

Ok, I ran into a couple of problems:
    1. The correct textures aren't showing up in the game and
    2. You can't place two of these lots right next to eachother

    Anyone have any ideas?

The only thing I can think of would be to make all of the side track/spur in one lot. Make a few different sizes. Maybe one of each example that I posted.

Is there anyway you can make it so that there is only the single track instead of the duel track. Like have it do the same things as a duel track like turn and cross and connect to other things?

If single track was used for main line track, there wouldn't be a way to control trains going in opposite directions on the same track. I'm not sure if a track could be made one-way.

    Bump of sorts, heh...

Ahh, I just DLed the freight yard, and the link that takes you to Gizmo's site to get the "G.dat" file is a dead one. Is there anywhere else to get it? Or am I just doing something wrong?

Ah, there we are! It looks great, but I've still got one little problem with it..

The grass base texture looks terribly out of place. We have tonnes of freight yards 'round where I live, and none of them have grass anywhere to be found. If it had the dirt texture instead of grass it'd be perfect.

On that topic, I thought of something else that you find at least in New York and I'm sure you find it elsewhere as well:

    Subway Shops & Yards

In other words, rail yards for subway cars. they're in New York, In Boston, I believe they have them underground, and I'm sure they must exist for pretty much every subway systerm! Think of what we're missing! It would need a few new textures to have the cars go down to ground level and into the yard, but textures have been done before. What does the modd squad think of this?

If you always take the same road, you will never see anything new.

This is because you've dragged up a thread that is very much dead. Look when the previous posters post was made. Images don't last forever.
In future, please think twice before digging up an old thread such as this, especially when a similar one already exists.
