Interesting. Looks pretty good graphics wise (Well, ok). I doubt gameplay will be particularly good however...

I see more than dirt and two lane roads. Did you see those brick roads? They actually looked pretty decent, perhaps they change along with the wealth level like in SC4? Toxicpiano is right though, it's not just how it looks, it's how it plays. I'll be eager to see what this becomes (we're about two months away).

I like the screenshots from Societies a lot better then anything I have seen from Spore. That game reminds me far to much of a cheap cartoon. Societies at least promises that it will have something to do with the city building concept, the type I like. How the gameplay will be is something we have to wait for.

It seems like they are now trying to appease all of us by releasing screenshots of more realistic looking cities. They've figured out the "candy land" approach to city building doesn't interest us, so from now on I'll bet were going to see some more realistic cities. If that means that the game has actually been made more realistic, or Candyland is still there but they are only taking pictures of the realistic side of the game remains to be seen.

Is it surprising that early pictures look rougher, more conceptual and closer to a single theme though? I've seen quite a few games go through some radical changes from shot one to the installed version. It's part appeasement, part logical progress I think.

Let's look at this from another angle. Does it really matter? The fact is that they have decided to show us a different side of the game rather than the "candy land" which the have been showing us. The fact remains, creating these realistic cities seems quite possible.

There I totally agree with you. I'd like some information on the actual game play here. There's only so much one can take from a screenshot. A brief summary of what can be done and what can't would be welcome.

I don't really care if there's any candyland in the game, so long as I never have to come anywhere near it in order to play. Still, Even if there there won't be as many transport types as SC4, I just want to see 1 more type of buildable road (only 2 exist currently) and highways. Then it's down to the gameplay itself. I want a game that at least allows sprawl rather than discouraging it.

I personally think that even SC4 looks better than SCS...

It may be 3D, but it all looks so crappy ???

Jan Ype - I think you hit the nail right on the head with your comment here. I must agree some of these pictures are much improved. let's hope the this development continues!

I like the screenshots, but after reading Dirk's review it reinforced my fear that the game play will feel flat.

From the screenshots, I'm worried that my measly P4 2.4ghz with a Nvidia 6200 card and 1 gig of ram will be insuffiecient to run the game acceptably.

it's getting better, i'm happy they're making it more realistic, i saw many brands of actual cars, no hover cars in sight, i also noticed a few new details like new roads, stoplights, and buildings, the reflections on the water look very well aswell. some things still look a bit cartoony and sim2ish, so it's not there yet, but i'm starting to reconsider my judgement on the game, maybe if i hear about changing of gameplay i'll gain back some interest to it.

Ugh gosh its like they're trying to shove it down my throat after I first saw it and said I didn't want it!

Still looks like a scaled down Sim City (Original, circa 1990) with some fancy graphics.

Why the hell would they render in real 3d and stick to the grid? STUPID!

Look guys, please stick to the topic and discuss the pictures normally, don't just go with the same off topic yammering that happens in every other topic. Having every other post be a "Omg I won't buy this ever" isn't very useful.

Some very interesting photos here. Some are elegant skylines at dust, some skyview industry parks, and some... cheesy.

There's a fine line between Elegant Skylines/Cheesy graphics.

Wow, the nightlighting is 1000% percent better. The small towns and farms always looked pretty decent, but it's nice to see some improvement/variety in road textures too. And either there's more variety of buildings now and more street traffic or they're beginning to think like a CJer and choose their shots more carefully. Although it's goofy, I do kinda like the totalitarian mind control center or whatever that is. 41.gif

These shots look very cool, and if the game was based on the graphics, I would buy it. However, it is not, and as ive heard, the gameplay style has stirred up mixed emotions among differnt people. Nice shots, but not enough to get me to buy the game. 4.gif

I know it's very different, but it kinda feels cartoonish comparing to Cities unlimited. I know I know, CU will be released long after this year, but at least it looks promising at the first. And, I'm not judging this game after playing the demo, but from the pictures it looks like city life with slightly, slightly better graphics

The graphics looks quite good, and there isn't a lot of buildings that repeat. Again, the gameplay might still be the big issue.

To be honest, I still don't like the look of the game. I could be wrong but it seems like the game designers assume that we are going to get off on creating Orwellian police state dystopias or utopias with the candy cane lamp posts and dancing street entertainers. I just want to do what I've done w/ SC2000, SC3000, and SC4: build a simulated city that somewhat resembles a real-life city. Someone is trying to reinvent the wheel ... [Where's the emoticon for *sigh*??]

One of the major "barf" things I'm still trying to get past in Simlish. I can associate with real-life languages. With SimCity 4, I was able to have McDonald's and Holiday Inn (very suburbanesque) and yet have Chinatown areas. With Simlish it's like I'm viewing some game with a crap porting job.

~ COMING SOON! Exciting new projects! ~

I think the benefit of Simlish is that it lets you transcend different languages :-) It can be whatever language you want 3.gif Or it can just be Simlish, the language spoken by the Sims of SimNation.
