    The Burbs come to Harding!

Some of the first developments of suburban hell are popping up on the loop in Harding Mountainside.

    Burbs1.JPG

These malls and big box stores appeared because of the huge intersection nearby of three avenues and the loop. I might as well call it the Simgoober Mile.18.gif

    Burbs2.JPG

About a mile and a half away is another huge intersection, where two avenues, the interstate, and the loop all meet (as well as Harding River).

    Burbs3.JPG

In between these two commericial zones is a now small area called Sousa Park, after the famous composer who played some of his marches at the theater here. This neighborhood was granted historic status because of the many threats surrounding it--medium density development coming out from downtown, and the huge commercial developments around the loops and avenues.

    Burbs4.JPG

An overview of the entire area.

    =========

    newy--Thanks for stopping by!

Mexicanboy--Thanks a bunch! Your San Fran CJ is nothing to sneeze at, either. Yes, the area is incomplete...as you can see, the entire area will be suburbs upon suburbs upon suburbs.

    natedogg--Thanks! Stop by again!

Yes, very nice lay-out. Would I recomend some very nice 4x4 homes along the river? That river is just simply amazing. I know If I had those kind of rivers in my region. I would make all along the river a State Park.2.gif19.gif

    Great work!

    Valley Avenue
    Harding's Main Street

We take a step back from the suburban developments for a minute to take a closer look at some major developments in downtown Harding. There have been major developments along Valley Avenue south of the traditional downtown core, and is now nicknamed by real estate agencies as Harding's Main Street.

    ValleyAve1.JPG

The business district starts at Miner's Market, an indoor pavillion--almost like a giant upscale flea market.

    ValleyAve2.JPG

Across the street is Fiddler's Green, a combination hotel/condo/mall complex.

    ValleyAve3.JPG

Further down Valley Avenue are the neighboring skyscrapers, Rose Lee Plaza (the black building) and Leonardo Tower (the brown building). Both are home to local offices of major corporations, such as Bank of America and Metlife.

    ValleyAve4.JPG

This building a block away from Rose Lee Plaza is the Trump Harding Plaza Hotel, near the intersection of Valley Avenue (not seen in the pic) going east-west and Miller Boulevard (in the pic) going north-south. Engineers are proposing putting a circle at the intersection of these two major arteries. Land, however, is at a premium around the intersection, so Hardians will have to suffer with major traffic until this project gets out of limbo.

    ValleyAve5.JPG

The Aegia Corporation put up this skyscraper in along Valley Avenue a few years ago, before the skyscraper boom. It is now among many.

    ValleyAve6.JPG

Across the street from Aegia is the small Orator Tower, one of the oldest skyscrapers in Harding, as well as along Valley Ave.

    ValleyAve7.JPG

Finally, where Valley Avenue leaves the high density district at Interstate 25 there are three major skyscrapers. The Hogan Center (the tall white building) and the New King's Building (squat white building) lie across the street from Wilder Square (the tall black building). All three are home to major corporations.

    ================

newy--Thanks a lot! The main urban layout is based off of Colorado Springs, although Harding actually has skyscrapers!

Mexicanboy--Hello again...Unfortunately, I'm not going to take your suggestion with the Harding River, because the river is inspired by the Passaic River in New Jersey, which is very mistreated IMO. However, I am most likely going to do that with some of the other rivers, like Rayado Creek and Goldwater Creek to the south.

    POP QUIZ TIME!
Who can say where I got the name of Harding for a major city from? HINT: It's from literature, and if you know what I read, then it should be...mildly difficult.10.gif

Hey great update. Your downtown looks pretty good. Too bad you can't mess with the river a bit..[:blackeye:] But oh well.. I'll just have to wait what you have in store for us next. I really like this CJ. Keep the updates at a medium paste.

    Great work!

I've been working on the area north of downtown, known as Pennington.

    Pennington_Uptown.JPG

I'm developing Pennington as an uptown area, only one or two true skyscrapers with upscale shops and stuff.

    Pennington_Warren.JPG

Just to the south of central Pennington is Warren Hills, an upscale neighborhood along Rayado Creek.

    Pennington_Farmstead1.JPG

    Pennington_Farmstead2.JPG

A much more affordable area, just across Rayado Creek from Warren Hills, is Farmstead, my experiment in large scale 1x1 neighborhoods.

    Traffic_Jam--Thanks!

Newy--It's written above. Thanks for stopping by again!

Mexicanboy--Well, only Harding River is gonna be ruined. As you can see in this update, Rayado Creek is very clean and desirable. In fact, there might be a rehabilitation of Harding River later on...(hint hint)

    jacqulina--Thanks for the compliments!

    Now for some news--
As of 8pm tonight, I'm going away to the real Colorado Springs and New Mexico until July 13th. I'll try to get an update or two before I leave...If not, I hope I'll get some inspiration and have a good update for ya on the 13th!

And Happy 4th of July to all you Americans out there!

Fantastic realism, and beautiful terraforming (especially the way you've made the roads fit so well in the mountains) - i really love it! 44.gif

Nice update, the area sure does looks very nice and very well put together! I don't even want to know what happens when all the snow melts away.. You have a couple of empty spots near the river.. You should think about adding a great park there.2.gif lol J/K18.gif I like it! I like it! I like this part of town. Just because it has my Favorite store! Walmart! I'll be waiting patiently for your updates.. Be safe when you head out afar.! I can't wait for the next updates!

    Great work!1.gif

Here's another CJ that I haven't replied to recently whereas I thought I had, though I've really been enjoying its progress. I especially like the areas along the loop and the West River Strip. Looks very nice and suburban, and some fun little intersections and interchanges to top it all.

    I'm baaack...again.

Yes, I am back from backpacking in New Mexico and eager to keep up where I left off. I'm full of inspiration and can't wait to get a good amount of playing time in. First order of business--Harding needs an aiport!

    But where?

    Airportlocations.jpg

You guys decide--Locations 1, 2, 3, or make your own suggestion.

Also--Does anyone know where I can get the latest version of the airport pack (diagonal tarmac, etc?) I can't find it26.gif!

    ===============

Natataek--Thanks! I really like Wanganui (or what I saw of it before I left, I need to update myself)

Mexicanboy--Yeah...lets just say teh river gets a little wider...You know, I've been too hard on the river, a park may be in order.

oroen--Thank you! Intersections are always fun...

I really like this journal. I vote for #3 for the airport. It's a bit further from downtown and away from the mountains.

I've been working a little bit on expanding the northern first ring suburbs in Pennington.

    Pennington_warren ave.JPG

Just a shopping area at the intersection of Warren Avenue and Pennington Road on the outskirts of Warren Hills.

    Pennington_college park.JPG

Across the intersection is College Park, home to lots of low-cost student housing. These students attend...

    Pennington_college.JPG

Valley Ward University, near Pennington in Harding.

    ---------

Now I have a little question for you all. [see Graphic]

    question.JPG

    What do you think?

    Airport Poll
    Site 1--4 votes
    Site 2--0 votes
    Site 3--1 vote

    I think I'll go with number 1.

    !!!BUT!!!

I've tried to download Thacliasse's (sp?) Airport Pack 2.1, but the sites on which they are hosted don't work. Can anyone pm or email it to me so I can get to work on *blank* International Airport?

    =================

MissTonya, Traffic_Jam, Scififan68, Mexicanboy13r--Thank you very much! Votes noted all round.

Mentarman--Long ago, when I had Mount Royale, I joined the SC Soccer League. Unfortunately, once I joined I found I wasn't able to give the time comittment needed. So, in order to be fair to your hockey league so it can be the best for everyone, I'm not going to join.

I vote for rezoning. Maybe not the whole thing, the taller buildings nearest downtown could stay, but scale it down toward the suburban end. I agree that it will fit in better.

Then again, I was outvoted on the airport. lol

    1 looks nice.

BTW, for Thalassicus's airport pack...just click the link and use the save target as button. Then its downloading time. This is also one of the most realistic regions I've ever seen....I think I'm in love with it. 29.gif
