  1. Your holiday to Wanganui

Thanks everyone for the kind comments again! @ Mexicanboy13r: Thanks! I think the reason my poulation is so low (and i dont use the modds) is i've adapted my playing style to suit the game. In reality you wouldn't have much office space in a city of say 10,000: but with sc4 you reallly need loads, so in order to avoid desertion and lack of jobs i adapted my style as shows: This is the center area of Wanganui City, and as you can see the jobs/pop distribution is pretty much half and half (take into consideration that there are lots of recreational/infrastructural areas within the residential zone areas). I try to base my cities around the need for jobs, and it seems to work. I used to, like everyone else, have problems with no job zots: but luckily thats pretty much a thing of the past with this method of city development. Just put Jobs all over the place and then try to make it look nice and that's it! Ciao!

MEGA UPDATE! Part #12: FINISHED! The Development is complete! Dubbed by the Prime Minister: Mountain Views, its completion was celebrated all over the region: BBQ's and beer galore! You started by creating the Marina area: Excavation was a long and difficult process, but your teams got there in the end: Almost complete: Surrounding zoning went up quickly: And so the quaint marina was completed... You were also commisioned to beautify Heart Springs and make it open for public use. Since opening, it has attracted many couples. The warm spring water is said to have aphrodisiac effects! http://img293.imageshack.us/img293/3160/portwanganuijul157111215070498.jpg align=baseline> http://img293.imageshack.us/img293/4746/portwanganuioct37111215071572i.jpg align=baseline> Commercial business was booming, and demand for airport acess drove the government to commision you to build an Airport express Station. There was no room in Mountain Views, so land was aquired at the port: http://img293.imageshack.us/img293/9991/portwanganuiaug226211214427196.jpg align=baseline> Whilst there for the build, you had ample oppertunity to take a look around.... http://img293.imageshack.us/img293/2973/portwanganuiaug53611211756797s.jpg align=baseline> http://img293.imageshack.us/img293/8222/portwanganuidec187111215075973.jpg align=baseline> http://img293.imageshack.us/img293/6790/portwanganuijan17211215076717e.jpg align=baseline> And so, the product was complete! http://img293.imageshack.us/img293/2275/portwanganuijan177211215077319.jpg align=baseline> http://img293.imageshack.us/img293/7167/portwanganuijan247211215077718.jpg align=baseline> http://img293.imageshack.us/img293/6394/portwanganuimay97211215093926m.jpg align=baseline> Downtown: http://img293.imageshack.us/img293/8940/portwanganuijan137011214522449.jpg align=baseline> http://img293.imageshack.us/img293/1813/portwanganuinov277111215074946.jpg align=baseline> http://img293.imageshack.us/img293/1397/portwanganuiaug316211214427919.jpg align=baseline> MVFC Stadium zone: http://img293.imageshack.us/img293/3669/portwanganuinov137111215073967.jpg align=baseline> Retail and Warehouse area on the edge of town: http://img293.imageshack.us/img293/223/portwanganuinov177111215074505.jpg align=baseline> And finally the magificent Turning Torso! http://img293.imageshack.us/img293/2258/portwanganuinov307111215075126.jpg align=baseline> align=baseline> You Leave the office of the Prime Minister feeling so satisfied....I don't think i've ever felt as good as this before....You even managed to get a compliment from the vain Prime Minister himself! You take one last look at what you've created as you clean out your office: The Map of Wanganui changed forever - your mark here will be felt for decades to come! You sigh as you realize your 'Holiday' is drawing to a close....You'll miss this place, though you vow to return as soon as situation allows. You've been called to another assignment back home for a period of 2 years: Maybe after that you'll move back here with your family....but that all depends on the wife! So after a short trip to the Airport and a few hours wait at the terminal, The Plane departs and you take your last look out of the window at the place that stole your heart and captured your imagination for a few short weeks in the summer of '05...... Goodbye...... THE END So guys, like every good thing in this life: this Cj has come to an end....after all, it was just a holiday! But seriously, i would have loved to continue, but real life has gotten in the way: something i knew would happen when i started (hence me naming the CJ a holiday only) In fact, i will be gone for two years fulltime missionary service for my Church so this really is the end. Who knows, though - maybe after two years you'll see a new CJ pop up in my name.....i hope so! Finally, i'd just like to thank those of you who have given so much feedback. Especially Deathtoall and Dutchdragon for thier input and ideas that helped form the new development! And hopefully i will still be able to find this thread in a couple of years! I've made plenty of Backups of the region in any case! Thankyou!
  9. Your holiday to Wanganui

Yes: i'm afraid i can't rename the map as it's officially on the Port's land (The new town is to the east on a large map). I was thinking of putting up a sign........after all a development like this still needs a name! By the way: shot's of the industrial port are also to come in the next update (yeah, it's gonna be a big one!) Thats all to come later on today!
  10. Your holiday to Wanganui

@ Deathtoall: I think it's gonna be between Mountain Views and Cliffendale......but now that its got a marina, maybe the name will have to incorporate that too (?) Well: the official naming ceremony will be in the next update in any case - so wait and see! @ sirgeoj2, Traffic_Jam and katie2007: Thanks for the Kind feedback and support! @ brett_131: I'm glad you've come by! Thanks for the comliments, and enjoy the rest of my CJ!
  11. Your holiday to Wanganui

hehehe, okay A transport map is on the way in tomorrow's update.......but how about this for now: Like it? It's a preview of the Marina (seen in detail next update)
  12. Your holiday to Wanganui

Hey palmgurl! I'll do you a deal - you add me to your sig and i'll add LOADS of palmtrees Just clarify for me which highway you meant?
  13. Your holiday to Wanganui

Part #11: Continuation of the build As the developing residential lots rise from the dust, you extend eastward towards Watershed Annexe, stretching the freeway ever closer to the Capital.... The citizens of the original town at first objected strongly to the new development directly to thier west and the freeway to be built in the middle of thier quaint village: after all this was the most easterly front of the freestate of Wanganui for almost a century. One guy even chopped his own arm off in protest! A bucket load of simoleons did the trick, though $$$ ! (the guy bought a nice new prosthetic arm with his cash ) The new freeway punctures the suburbs at Ravendale: The freeway terminus on the edge of Wanganui City (below-middle): And the Tollway is extended from the Phoenix freeway over the mountains to join in Ravendale. Picture one shows Midriaway* services and the Tollway entrance: The new satellite map for the region is as shows: The New tollway provides a conveniant alternative to the difficult navigation and heavy traffic found on the current route through the center of Wanganui City. You're extremely pleased with the outcome, but just as you think your work is drawing to a close, a fax comes through: 1. 2. 3. 4. 1. Mixed zoning, MARINA 2. Residential zoning with sports facilities 3. Lake park to be completed 4. Commercial zoning (max poss. job yield) Part #12: So it looks like you've still a considerable amount to do! Stay tuned to see the finished product next update! (plus close up shots) I need more feedback for a town name: I'd love it if people commented as much as possible....especially those taking a look for the first time, even more so the hardened heroes of Cj-ing! (Mr.Cinatit, Jeronij etc - i'd love to know what you think! ) Thanks for your support guys! *= made up name, thanks for the tip, dutchdragon! EDIT: Thanks Simfreak9! wow! my first sig addition!
  14. Your holiday to Wanganui

Thanks for the compliment, dutchdragon! I might try out that naming method: it sounds like a good idea
  15. Your holiday to Wanganui

Thanks for the comments Kmoh4346 just a few words in my defence: Where i live (in the Netherlands) you actually tend to see govt. buildings near or next to eachother: especially in the larger towns/cities. Anyway, the Wanga sims are logical sims: they build where demand is needed the most - often in centralised locations And in defence of the turning torso (if that's what you were reffering to as the high rise): The real life structure stands as a mega tall in a small fishing town (Malmo) with the next highest building at only 5 floors high! The design is specifically suited to stand alone - and personally i love it! The thing is, whilst striving for realism, i also want to inject originality into my cities. And BTW I don't mind at all! we're all entitled to our own opinions EDIT: Yes!! Page 5!
